WK vs illini

They were a team who never decided who they wanted to be this season. Never had an identity... And we never knew which team would show up.

Illinois was not a 5 seed and WKU was not a 12. When I saw this game come up on Sunday, I immediately said that is the 12-5 "upset" for sure!

Yup.

WKU really played stupid down the stretch and there was some iffy officiating, but the Hilltoppers pulled it out.

Unfortunately, VCU was my other upset pick for today and they weren't quite able to get it done. Hopefully Dayton will come through for me tomorrow.

This game was absolutely terrible. Absolutely no defense until the last 4 minutes, and a pathetic perimeter defense. The only guy who showed up to play today was Trent Meacham. Tisdale was a joke today. How a 7 footer can get absolutely dominated by a smaller WKU frontline and out rebounded at that, is beyond me.

one rebound each for Tis and Keller......unbelievable

That was crazy. I think the rules are that you can't overturn the call that Illinois touched the ball on that inbound. By rule, that's locked into place.

However, going to the replay, it's determined the Illinois player touched the ball and that 0.1 seconds ran off the clock during it.

Therefore, by rule, they're supposed to take the 0.1 off the clock since the ball was touched, since the clock is reviewable, but the actual call that the ball DIDN'T touch Illinois is not allowed to be changed.

Rules suck. How in the world do you write the rules in this scenario? You, in theory, can't open up every play to instant replay, so you just can't give the ball to WKU there; however, by rule, you have no choice but to take the 0.1 off the clock.

And even funnier, I can't think of a way to put a rule, into writing, that would provide a proper ruling for the play and what actually took place.

but did anyone else see..........

yet another bizarre call right at the end that benefitted the higher seeded team!!

so the sheer number of late game clock errors and bad calls are really amazing.....wonder what the hey is going on!!

I don't think this was really an upset. I think the better team won.

The one guard for W.K. was maybe the quickest guard I've seen all year.

Same here... I almost jumped out of seat when this game was announced last Sunday.

I agree... That guard was fun to watch.

Gene Keady has taught Bruce Weber well....The mighty Illini have just 1 NCAA tourney win in the last 4 years.

The WKU guy inbounding the ball, and the Illini defender slaps it and it lands out of bounds. The whistle never blows and an Illinois player picks up the ball while standing out of bounds, then passes to a teammate who goes in for a shot....all the while the clock is running.

The refs finally blow the whistle....then spend several minutes conferring and looking at the replay, then restore some but not ALL the time back onto the clock and give the ball to Illinois!!!

Clearly the ball should have gone to WKU with maybe a split second run off since the ball WAS touched inbounds by the Illini defender before going out of bounds again.

Then earlier today during the Notre Dame/New Mexico game, there was an incident where the game clock was running WHILE A GUY WAS STANDING AT THE FT LINE SHOOTING FREE THROWS!!!!

T it's called being human. Those kind of mistakes shouldn't happen but they do because we are all not perfect.

that was one ugly game to watch from an illini standpoint. pretty much a synopsis of what was wrong with the team all year--the inability to consistently score the basketball, lack of mental toughness, the inability to defend the perimeter, and soft inside play. they missed frazier, but they would've lost even with him, i think.

that was a game that tisdale and davis should have dominated and they completely disappeared. brutal.

i credit weber for getting over 20 wins and a 5 seed, but realistically, illinois didn't belong there.

get those post players in the weight room over the summer and better luck next year.
