Zobrist to Portal

Likewise - not much of a surprise to me.....
this is the mid-major scenario going forward...
if you bring in a freshman and develop them and if they don't get a lot of playing time, then they see you bring in talented
transfers that average double digits and shoot 47% from the arc or talented Euro guys - then they're not gonna stick around,
Even some who do get a fair amount of playing time as freshmen like Montana, still fear with so many open scholarships
nowadays in the portal era, that a quality STARTING caliber point guard will be coming in and he still would have been the backup.

so they won't stay for a 2nd year fearing they'll still ride the bench and be 10-12th in playing time....

It's more than any one thing, but you just have to look at who the 2 players Wardle just recruited are.

Recruiting at mid-majors has completely changed, just as it has at the high-majors. Coaches and teams don't really have time to develop kids any more. And if they did, a lot of them still transfer out and go elsewhere after a program invests scholarships and time to develop their talents. It actually can work just as well or better to reload with new talent each year from the portal, juco, or wherever. It's nice to see kids stay all 4 years, but ask Illinois State how well that worked for them.

Regardless of the reasons it makes me sad.☹️☹️☹️
I just don't think Zobrist was ever gonna satisfy Wardle on the defensive side of the ball...now have to hope for Richardson to stay after his best friend just the team !🤔🤔🤔🙏

I would not recruit freshman unless you know they are good enough to step in and play immediately. Look what happened with Montana, we played him which in turn showcased his ability and because of that he is gone. Jucos and transfers is the only way to go now in this day and age of NIL. It will be interesting to see where Zobrist goes as he was recruited by many schools including ISU.
The thing is if high school players are stars that are ready to play D-1 basketball their freshman season they end up at bigger schools.

yeah - if we are the farm team for the Big 12 or Big Ten, then we need to use SIUE, UAPB, and all the Horizon, Summit and lower teams as our farm system (plus Euros) & jucos) and go strong after their best players.
The one thing Bradley has going for them is that they are among the top tier of non-P-5's

Good luck wherever you play next, Matthew. I think most Bradley fans will be pulling for you, even if it's not at Bradley.

It leaves Bradley with 5 more available scholarships-
