  • Bradley 79 - Northeastern 68

    Well that was refreshing.

We are not a good team, we don't play very good fundamental basketball, and we have no shot at the post-season this year. But screw that all! I'm celebrating the end of our losing streak! BU got a good lift from Crawford and Knezevic in the first half, and MK actually played some pretty good defense! DSE came up HUGE in the second half. WALT LEMON: player of the game. Career high 24 points, and 7 STEALS!? 50% from 3, 75% from the line. I'm not going to complain about any of that. Eastman, Thompson, Prosser all with good contributions. TB with a double-double. Only negative tonight was Shayok. I might look for him to be out of the starting lineup next game. I'd like to see him be replaced with Thompson or Crawford. Still way too many turnovers, but our defense was good enough to overcome that (nice to see some zone tonight). If we can keep improving defensively, we may win a few more games than we're supposed to this year.

Overall a good win! Just happy to see the Braves play well and get a much needed home win. Great effort lets keep it up and see what happens.

This was a very long and athletic team that beat SIU and won at St. Johns. I'm very pleased with this win. I thought the players played with great effort and I thought Geno played the right players who had the quickness to handle Northeastern's length, size, and quickness. Now, we need to build on this and win the next one.

Refreshing indeed, especially to see the team shoot so much better.
The quickness and athleticism of Northeastern exposed the other couple weaknesses we have- poor interior defense (Northeastern scored 34 points in the paint despite no real serious insider scorer) and shaky ball handling (22 turnovers and a lot of problems with Northeastern's press).

But the toughness of our guys, the better shooting, and a huge game by Walt Lemon was enough to overcome the mistakes.

Here is an early look at the stats-

Taylor had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds
        Walt had a team-leading 24 points and 7 steals
Jordan had 9 rebounds to contribute to a 41-35 rebounding advantage, and played well to limit their big guys from hurting us.
DSE had 19 points and was 3-4 from three
And there were better contributions from the bench, especially Sticks who had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks in just 17 minutes.

Overall just waht Bradley needed, but some things we still need to work on.

Good game but was a little nervous for a few minuts. Lemon definanatly got himself into and out of trouble tonight.

Failed dunk that he got his own rebound on. Then got the ball stolen when I believe they were within 4 but then stole right back. Like the effort from lemon tonight.
Well let me just quote the late-great Colonel Sanders, who said..."I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."

We were so wore out the last 8 minutes....Shayok doesn't play the last 38 minutes? I don't understand that...somewhere along the line we need some bench. I would have liked to see Jalen and SS a little more in the second half.
then maybe WL would dribble with his head up.....nice game by Walt though,DSE, and TB.....

It's also obvious we can't play long with both DSE and TB on the bench at the same time...we need the stability

definitely reminded me of Eric Roberson on those...turnover and steal within seconds of each other.

I think the reason Shayok sat was because he (once again) tried to dribble through traffic and turned the ball over. Either Geno told him not to do that and he didn't follow directions, or Geno made the decision that he needed better ballhandlers in the game to win; those guys were long, quick, and very athletic.

Remember, Geno called this a "must win game" and played it that way. Winning these home games are very important to the immediate future of this program...... even if it means sacrificing guys where it may cost us a road game next time out.

I didn't get to see the game, so what happened with Shayock? 2 minutes to start the game and then doesn't see the floor again? He must have done something to get himself deep into the doghouse.

                      Glad for the win though

I suppose...I just keep thinking we need some bodies to play in the second half....but it was great to see some shots fall..

I don't know what the reason was. I did not hear the postgame show, so maybe Coach Ford talked about it? He did take 2 rather bad shots, including a three pointer early in the shot clock which Coach Ford doesn't like. But it may have been a defense issue as Northeastern started the game with several easy layups that weren't defended well.

                          Game story from BradleyBarves.com
PEORIA, Ill. ? Bradley sophomore guard Walt Lemon, Jr. turned in career-highs with 24 points, five assists and seven steals, leading the Braves to a 79-68 victory versus Northeastern Tuesday.

Very frustrating to very satisfying, I guess that's the way of sports. Really don't know many negatives about the games except for the usual Shayok starts but never plays.

Everything seemed to go right scoring wise, so no complaints.

I believe that Milos definitely earned himself some more minutes, and he deserves them

He brought energy to the floor that nobody else brings

Took a charge, and played tough defense, definitely caused some mistakes by NE

Looked good on the offensive end
Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
