So I don't understand the constant sentiment that we do nothing on offense.

I would also say that, like most teams, BU does seem to push the ball and look for a quick shot or drive (like the ones Walt got all night). After that, BU pulls it out and sets up the O
I couldn't make it to the game last night, so it would be unfair for me to comment about that game. But from what I have seen from previous games, most of our screens etc occur at the top of the key with little action around the baseline. I have seen darn few baseline screens. I think if we utilized some baseline plays, we could provide different looks for Taylor and Shayok. Hopefully we utilized different schemes last night, as I think we are currently easy to scout.

GF addressed some of this in the post-game interview. NE had an extremely long and athletic team, and they were able to quickly close seemingly open passing lanes. I also saw this problem in a couple of the first games, but it was especially evident during this game. He also said that BU had trouble simulating NE b/c they really don't have a similar lineup.

As an aside GF's post-game interview was excellent in my opinion. This team certainly is far from great, but I do like GF so far.

I agree.....and really liked the number of passes I was seeing early! In fact, I even mentioned this to my son that it was nice to see us passing the ball so much. I have a feeling that's a big part of why SS was sent to the bench so early.

Carmichael is head over heels better and that's not debateable. Alot of people on here may disagree and that's alright but until I see something to change my mind. It remains Carmichael in my books.
I agree. I also don't think I'm stepping out on a limb by saying if Carmichael saw his playing time increased by 25% that his numbers would be even better. Seems logical to me.

What's puzzling to me is Carmichael's inconsistency...

He can put up 24 pts & 17 rebounds like he did against us in Peoria last year AND follow it up with 19 pts & 13 rebs against us again in Bloomington last Feb...

Then follow it up with only 4 points or two rebounds as he did on the very next couple games after he played Bradley....

He played 35 and 31 minutes in those games against us. He played 20 and 24 minutes in the other two games you're talking about. His 7 PT/2 REB game came on the road against a very good WSU team. I look forward to seeing how JP does there this season.

We did.....during the "motion" looks we were running guys through the baseline. Again, I only watched for the O sets early in the game. But I certainly saw BU running sets or motion during that time.

The last 6 games last season for Kent State, all 6 games were in the mid 70's scored, except for 1 game which was 65. 1 game had 18 assists, 1 game had 15 assists and the rest were 12 and 13.

Bradley had 14 assists on 79 points tonight, this is what your going to see from Geno.

Well, if this is the offense Geno is going to use, he needs to recruit players that can thrive in it, i.e. athletic players who can shoot better. But last night did show that we can shoot the ball if we continue to work on shooting drills in practice. I did not see the game, but maybe Northeastern does not play zone defense either!

For those that didn't see the game, Northeastern played full court pressure almost the whole game, thus resulting in 23 Bradley turnovers. It was a decent strategy in slowing us down and Bradley likely would of lost without the much needed 7 threes.

Shayok hit the bench after he attempted to dribble thru a double team instead of passing it on the full court pressure. Geno has seen enough of Shayok's shaky ball handling when dribbling close to a defender.

Well, good to hear that the 3's and the free throws were going down last night.

Regarding Shayok, it all revolves around fundamentals. And that means making the extra pass when the lanes are blocked instead of dribbling out of control through two or three defenders and turning the ball over! Geno may not be a screamer, but he most certainly can send a message via playing time. Glad to see Geno is getting tired of this type of garbage play. And this is not a knock on Shayok, but hopefully this is a learning experience for him.

I agree, though I think earlier in the season we tried to push the ball all the time, which does not work against certain defenses and bigger teams. That's why it is important to pull back and set up the offense especially against the better teams. If the quick shot or drive works certain nights, great. But on those nights it doesn't, it's better to slow things down and set up for as high percentage a shot as possible, or at least balance out the attack. As long as they were doing that last night, that's a good sign for the improvement of this team as the season progresses.

Hopefully, Geno and BU work on how to handle this kind of a press. We attacked it all wrong last night by constantly trying to dribble through it and getting trapped in the corners. Fundamentally, we did not (or could not) make the proper adjustments to better handle the pressure. I have a feeling we'll see that kind of press again after teams watch film of this game.

I agree T his inconsistency is very puzzling. He looks all world against us and a few others and then he goes into a witness protection program. I still would love Geno to get somebody with his body and his ability and see what he could do with them. Until he developes some consistency, we will not know how good he could be. He is scarey good to me and I wish he'd take the nights off when he plays us.

I think it has a lot to do with poor interior defense when he goes off against us...

just for the sake of argument...

Here's Jackie Carmichael's Valley stats last year...
                              9.8 ppg and 6.2 rpg

BUT here are his averages in just the TWO games against Bradley..
                              21.5 ppg and 15 rpg

so if you do the math and see where would his numbers be without those two Bradley games...
His averages in Valley play drop to an amazingly MEDIOCRE...
                              7.5 ppg and 4.7 rpg

Those two figures are almost precisely what JAKE EASTMAN averaged last year (7.97 ppg and 4.13 rpg)...so outside of a couple games against BU - Carmichael performed no different than Jake Eastman!
SO - IN PERSPECTIVE - DOES CARMICHAEL DESERVE ALL CONFERENCE MENTION?

Not saying your figures are wrong, but can you show me where Jake Eastman averaged 7.97 points per game?

Last season Eastman only scored more than 7 points TWICE. He had 10 points vs Evansville and 8 points vs. UTM.

So how is it possible he averaged nearly 8 ppg?
