We need a basketball coach. Not a recruiter, not an assistant, not a low level coach. Someone who knows how to coach and knows how to coah Bradley basketball.

I was against it but we need dick Versace for 2 years, chuck buescher for 2!years or jim molinari for 5.

We need someone who gets winning at Bradley, that can restore credibility. You can't hit a grand slam with nobody on base. Restore credibility first then get a big time coach. This is sad

I agree. We need credibility restored at this point.

Can't do that. BU fires 32-3 coaches.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

For some reason I watched the 2nd half. Might be my last half of the season. Someone let me know when there is a reason to start watching again.

                From BUBraves.com
Braves Go Cold at Southern Illinois
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Anthony Beane scored a game-high 16 points and host Southern Illinois rode a 22-4 second-half run to a 70-59 MVC men's basketball victory Wednesday night at SIU Arena.

                Box score-
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

The theme seems to be that the Braves went cold and that is why they lost. But for the game, Bradley shot 20-48 for 41.7%, and they were 8 for 20 from three (40.0%), and they scored 59 points.
Those numbers are actually better than their season averages coming into this game-
                38.1% FG % (38.2% in MVC play)
32.8% on threes (only 29.2% in MVC play)
58.5 ppg (only 55.8 ppg in MVC play)

So blaming the offense doesn't make a lot of sense, IMO, since BU shot better and scored better than their averages before this game.

                But on defense-
SIU was averaging just 50.5 ppg in MVC play before tonight, and they scored 70 points against the Bradley defense.
SIU was shooting just 37.1% in league games before tonight, last in the MVC, but tonight they shot 46.3%. (25-54)
And SIU was shooting an abysmal 20.3% from three in league games before tonight (a distant 10th), but they torched the Braves for 47.1% (8-17).
And Anthony Beane made 4 three-pointers tonight, more than he had made in all 6 of his prior MVC games combined.
The problem tonight was horrible defense, which surprisingly was never mentioned in the Bradley article.

Here is the PJ Star article-

                The article says:
CARBONDALE -- Bradley's skid away from home reached 14 games Wednesday night as Southern Illinois handed the Braves a 79-59 defeat at SIU Arena.

The final score was actually 70-59.

It looks like Peoria Journal Star sports writers have to retire before they actually can see and form rational opinions about the embarrassingly horrible state of men's and women's basketball at Bradley.
Here is retired PJ Star sportswriter Kevin Capie's opinions-

Obviously Capie is not expecting a teaching job from Bradley post-retirement from the PJ Star or he would follow the company line and pretend everything is rosey with BU basketball like the others seem to think.

This team and season is lost. The team appears to have no confidence or trust in their coach. You can see it in their demeanor on the floor. This team is a bunch of individuals trying to win a basketball game, because the game plan they are taught to execute, they don't believe in. As I've said before, their defense is highly over rated. You play defense with your feet. This team plays it with their hands. That is why they commit so many fouls. The offense if woeful. There is nothing to it and opposing teams know it. Dave Snell better be careful what he says on the air or Madam President will have his job.

I hope the Board of Trustees is happy that this basketball team is the laughing stock of the Missouri Valley Conference. That's right...it's happened on your watch, with your people. YOU ARE THE ONES RESPONSIBLE. Man up and form a committee of people that know what the hell they are doing to get a new president, athletic director and coach. Everything from the academics to athletics needs fixed.

I didn't know he had retired. He must have just retired. I read all of his articles on the ISU football team during this past season and their recent trip to the National Championship game. I thought he always had insightful articles about ISU athletics. Although I'm a BU fan, I also enjoy reading about ISU's teams, mostly football, and Kevin has always done a decent job. My major complaint about the Journal Star is their cheap coverage of all local high school and college sports.

                        Well, his Twitter page says-
"Peoria Chiefs and FCS football beat writer emeritus for the Journal Star"

I took the term "emeritus" to mean he had retired, but I don't really know otherwise.

Dave Reynolds' full article in the PJ Star focuses on the defense, which is what I saw as the biggest failure last night, instead of an offense "going cold".

Dave reveals that Barry Hinson made some changes at halftime and demanded his players focus on guarding the three, especially Warren Jones. And they were successful, as Jones was scoreless in the 2nd half.

Did anyone listen to the post-game show? Did we make any adjustments in the 2nd half? Way too often teams seem to play better against us in the 2nd half of games, and pull away to win. In 11 of Bradley's 14 losses, Bradley has been outscored significantly in the 2nd half of the game.

But most of Dave's article focuses on the porous defense-

But, for Bradley, the theme of the second half was more about the inability to get defensive stops.

...SIU — the worst offensive team in the Valley — shot 50 percent in the second half and scored at least 60 points in a league game for the first time this season.

“It’s a lack of pride in defense”
(What? I thought this team played great defense?)

“We got away from what got us to being a top defensive team in the conference."

“We are having some issues defensively now,” said BU coach Geno Ford.“We’ve had them three games in a row.

"Three straight games we’re not getting the job done keeping the ball in front."

"They have a lot of good drivers and spread you out. They did it to us and absolutely had their way with us, particularly in the second half.”
(just who are these "good drivers"? And why don't we have anyone who can do it?)

“We’re light years better offensively...but our defense should be improving. And it’s not."
("Light years better"? So now Geno is getting his talking points from Kirk Wessler?)

"...we’ve been able to play together for only a couple of games. These guys (SIU) have played together for 20 games. So we’re guarding better offenses"
(this lame reference to injuries baffles me- SIU was the worst offensive team in the MVC, averaging just 50.5 ppg and shooting 20.3% from three prior to last night's offensive outburst of 70 points- how does that qualify as "better offense"? And the fact that we just lost to a near-300 RPI team with every player healthy and playing except Xavier Taylor, proves that the injury excuse of 100% phony)

That’s a frustration I’ve got. We’ll get that turned around or our rotation will look a lot different.”
(What rotation is left that hasn't already been tried? Nate Wells and Anthony Fields are the only scholarship players that haven't already been placed into the starting rotation multiple times)

well there's one simple answer - this whole concept that we are or that we EVER were a good defensive team was based on a dozen games playing the worst collections of woeful scoring opponents including DIII teams...

I have said all along - this argument by Geno and parroted by our media that we're somehow a good defensive team on par with the best of the Molinari teams - is absolute poppycock & fools gold.
We only looked good at times offensively because of the caliber of teams we played that couldn't score...

I guess it stumps me that our astute media keeps looking at a horribly bad basketball team - a team that cannot even compete against an SIU that ranks at 300 or worse in everything - RPI, SOS, scoring, etc...
and then keeps complimenting them for all the stuff they do great!!
It's like promoting and giving an academic award medal to a kid who gets a zero on a history test. Getting the zero is bad enough, but calling it good and rewarding it is shameful.
