I hate to clutter up the recruiting thread with this debate but...
I have always said that since the 1970's ... Bradley is just a hard place to recruit to...not a lot of exposure, never have had the name recognition other schools get - it just isn't easy....and I laugh every time I see someone claim that it is because we have Caterpillar or because we are only 2-3 hours driving distance from Chicago or St. Louis...etc...
I have heard it direct from the mouths of numerous BU coaches, they all say it is not easy..

Many of our greatest recruiting successes over the last 50 years were due to specific connections our coaches had

Guys like Mitchell Anderson & Hersey Hawkins were mainly because they had a body that did not appeal to other recruiters (JJ was too slim, Hersey was too short)

But Jim Les' connections locally thru Buescher (got us a lot of kids like Sommerville, Ruffin, Crouch, etc..)
..and his connections thru Carl Maniscalco got us Sammy and a couple others..
and his juco connections got us Boogie, Zach Andrews, and Will Franklin via Alvin Brooks..

Jim Les was able to bring in kids who were as talented as any others in the MVC....he had ALL-MVC caliber kids every year! Geno never even came close. This has been cited MANY times and yet we have people who claimed that Geno's recruiting was a STEP UP from Les'.
Only now are we getting back to that level of recruiting that we have kids getting ALL MVC mention.

anyway - as hard as it is to get kids interested in Bradley or Peoria - I think so far Wardle & his staff are using what connections they have (Boya, Bar, etc...come from Indiana Elite) and Bargen had the connection from Kansas City area that led to Childs

I don't know anyone who would do any better...

Wardle & staff think we are doing it right for the long term and into the future, and I agree

I have heard that Bradley has several other point guard prospects higher on their list, and Pepper had not yet been scheduled for a campus visit. He was set on committing now, so that is why Bradley was not in play.

Speaking of visits, there were 3 recruits visiting this past weekend, a couple more this coming weekend, and one or more recruits visiting just about every weekend through September and into October. The coaches are optimistic they will land one or two guards this fall.

Probably fair to say Yuri Collins??™s commitment to Saint Louis a couple days ago steered Horne away from there, voluntarily or not. Collins is the more heralded PG recruit.

Maybe, hopefully, we can get a REAL Bradley fan covering the Braves for the PJS.

There is very little information available on him on the internet.

About the only information I can find on their basketball program is this story regarding their basketball coach-
    http://www.fayobserver.com/news/2017...o-embezzlement
One last thing according to the Pantagraph. D.J. played at Carey High School last year, with an enrollment of almost 2,400 students (9-12). His stats from last year are from that school. This will be his first year at Trinity Christian, which is a traditional power in the private schools in NC.

Some of us on this board accurately foresaw the horrific destruction that firing Les and letting Glasser run the show & pick his replacement would cause...

and I am sure you know there were some who backed & applauded the moves that destroyed Bradley and recall, some who labelled Joanne Glasser the greatest President Bradley ever had. Here is a direct quote from one:
"BU should (do) whatever it takes to keep Joanne in place forever.
Lifetime contract. Unlimited salary escalations commensurate with the infinite
increase in donations that would happen every year she remained at BU. The
    facts speak for themselves!"

LOL - what a horrible thought and those guys actually wanted that!

just reading that thread titled "President Glasser - Best President in School History" gives a person nightmares to think that all those so-called fans who actually pushed that silly concept are still around spouting off as if the are experts & know-it-alls.

What??? Mexico, can you please show anything I have ever posted that would suggest what you are accusing me of? I have never said anything close to "I'd rather have Les as a Coach now than Brian" (that is your exact accusation). So please stop what appears to be a misguided trolling effort.

Of course I am on record many times as saying I did not think a coaching change should have been made in 2011, and unlike the delusional sycophants of Joanne Glasser (which included a few fans and the loud voices in the media who love to boast about the highlights of their career but who have never admitted how wrong they were and how much damage they contributed to), I accurately predicted it would damage the program greatly and I predicted many of the devastating effects that transpired. I even predicted, and took a lot of bashing, that Jim would lead a horrible UC Davis team that he took over, to the NCAA and to conference championships before Bradley ever got back there. Now he's done that, several times!

As I have always said, I am happy for Jim Les. He got out of the mess that JG and MC created at Bradley, and is extremely happy, highly successful where he is, and very well paid. I have never said I wanted him back at Bradley after he left, though only a fool would try to argue we wouldn't have been far better off if he had stayed.

Again, show me where I ever said what you are accusing me of, or I would like to see a retraction.

Anyone is entitled to their opinions, and we could play games all day pointing out stuff people have said that can now be questioned. But I will stand by every opinion or prediction I have posted over the past decade, and believe I was right about virtually everything I predicted.

I don't believe I ever said Les was a better coach - only that he would accomplish those things I noted...

and the reason is largely that this program was so totally destroyed by Glasser & Cross that nobody was ever gonna get it back for a long time...
,,and it had 100% to do with the people running the show in 2010-15 and nothing to do with Brian Wardle - so your "trap question" is easy to answer and is NOT demeaning to Coach Wardle.
Now, finally almost 8 years later we are back, thanks to the excellent staff we now have.

BUT as I have said- the damage done by Glasser/Cross etc... to recruiting connections, AAU programs, and the reputation of the school, recruiting budget, and fan base was undeniably enormous. It was easy to see that Jim Les could have even gotten Savannah State to the NCAA before Geno was going to get Bradley there with Glasser running the show.

    as for this question:
Originally posted by mexicobufan View Post

the answer is NO, I have never said that...
BUT I would rather have had Jim Les for a head coach in 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 than what we were given as his replacement and which we were forced to endure for several years - which nearly destroyed Bradley basketball and the entire fan base. Thankfully a few of us diehards (like you & me) held on and helped engineer an overthrow of the terrible regime that was destroying us.

So - your question is kinda like...
"so you'd rather be floating in the ocean with a life raft than be relaxing on an ocean cruise?"
...and the answer is no - but that life raft that we got into after the disaster sure was a lifesaver.., and I am glad we got it!

Think you are being a little off base here. Those 2 and many others just didn??™t like the way Jim was let go. We have nothing against coach Wardle. He didn??™t fire Les.

Way back when Bradley chose unwisely and fired Jim Les...
I recall some on this board had predicted that UC-Davis would rebuild their program before Bradley did - and they have
and some predicted UC-Davis would win their conference before Bradley did - and they have twice - plus winning their tourney
and some predicted they would make the NCAA Tourney before Bradley did - and they have
and some predicted they would beat us out on some recruits - and they have - starting way back in 2010 with Tyler Les - now Elijah Pepper

Too bad Joanne Glasser isn't around any more to enjoy getting her nose rubbed in the dirt..

From Pantagraph story, looks like he picked ISU over St Louis and Northern Kentucky primarily. Will be his first year at new school who 2 state titles in a row in their class.
