Today is the first day that the transfer portal is officially open and players can transfer-
https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1635254639523401732

The number of players' names in the transfer portal is around 200 this morning, but expect it to rise substantially in the next few weeks.
Last season, the transfer portal reached over 1,700 names for the second straight year.
As of now, the only MVC players I can find who are currently available in the portal are:
Jace Carter of UIC
Jalen Jackson of UIC
Blaise Beauchamp of Evansville
Jonathan Dunn of Missouri State

A couple interesting names that Bradley once recruited and offered:
Jacob Hutson, the 6'11" center for Loyola. Bradley offered him back in June, 2019, prior to his senior year in high school, but he ended up committing to Loyola. He played sparingly his freshman season as a backup to Cameron Krutwig. But then he was Loyola's starting center his sophomore season and played more. But then this season, as a junior, he was banished to the end of the bench by new coach Drew Valentine, and played less than either of his first 2 years.

Also, Saint Thomas, a 2021 recruit, also at Loyola. He is a 6'7" wing that Bradley offered back in January, 2021. He was an outstanding high school scorer, but never played much at Loyola. Then he left the team earlier this season and is transferring.

Here we go. Should be really interesting. I wonder if athlete transfers will slow in the coming years as more and more realize the grass may not always be greener somewhere else. But I anticipate that realization to take quite a few more years and transfers will probably keep up at a really high level. Hope BU can capitalize. However, as we saw with IL this year, filling a roster with highly ranked transfers doesn't always work as well as one would hope. Chemistry issues, or just being able to complement other players on a roster can be difficult when building a roster via the transfer portal.

Former Bradley Brave, now at D2 (Kentucky Wesleyan), Antonio Thomas is entering the portal looking to play one more season for his extra Covid year.
He is a good kid. Good luck Antonio!
https://twitter.com/VerbalCommitsD2/status/1635332787137032192

Antonio didn't play a lot at Bradley, and didn't score much-
BU stats for 2 seasons- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4433102/antonio-thomas

But he turned into a pretty good all-around point guard at Kentucky Wesleyan. He started every game for the last 2 seasons, averaged 7.4 ppg in 2021-22, and this year (2022-23) he averaged 9.8 ppg and shot 41.1% from three. He averaged 3.1 assists per game for his career there.
KWU stats- https://kwcpanthers.com/sports/mens...76#:~:text=2021-22:,and 3.1 rebounds per game

One more MVC transfer to add. This one is a little surprising-

Evan Brauns of Belmont. He is a 6'9" junior who started 30 out of 31 games. He averaged 7.0 ppg and 5.3 rpg and played 21.2 minutes per game.
https://belmontbruins.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/even-brauns/3292
Stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/4703219/even-brauns

Belmont junior center Evan Brauns tells a sports journalist that he is already "committed to a new program. Moving up up a level".
Seems a little strange, since the portal just allowed contact a few hours ago.
https://twitter.com/nlorensensports/status/1635342718531702789

But what he means by "Moving up a level", he didn't say. Brauns was recruited by Bradley, Drake, and Indiana State-

If he is using "moving up a level" sounds like he is leaving the MVC. Kinda fishy on the "already committed" statement.

Now Da Coach if I understand this transfer stuff Thomas, since he has already transferred once, does he have to sit out a year?

Actually, because he is a grad transfer (assuming he does graduate) he is entitled by the NCAA's grad-transfer rule to transfer again and be eligible immediately. Even before the immediate eligibility rule, grad-transfers were immediately eligible upon transfer.
https://www.sbnation.com/college-foo...e-list-sit-out

If he was not a graduate-transfer, he would have to sit out unless he could get a waiver (coaching change, player abuse, family issue, etc.), because the immediate eligibility applies only to first-time undergraduate transfers.

A couple more MVC players have placed their names in the transfer portal-
Murray State's Kenny White, Jr. He is a junior who spent 2 seasons at Tennessee Tech, then transferred to Murray State for this past season. He is a 6'7" forward who started 18 games for Murray State and averaged 7.7 points and 3.9 rebounds
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...kenny-white-jr
https://twitter.com/VerbalCommits/st...56378218004480

Not sure whether this has anything to do with him leaving Murray State, but Kenny White did have an incident in January when he was arrested on marijuana charges. He missed the next 3 games for Murray State, 2 of which they lost, and returned the following game and immediately was back in the playing rotation and played 26 minutes.-

Also, Missouri State's Dawson Carper added his name to the transfer portal. Carper is a 6'11" center who started at Hawaii and played 2 seasons there. He transferred to Missouri State in 2020, redshirted his first season, then played the last 2 seasons, getting limited playing time-
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba.../dawson-carper

He has one more season of eligibility as a grad-transfer, his Covid year, left. He only played in 7 games this past season because of a knee injury.

Ok thanks

Hutson commits to UNI…. UNI could be a real problem next year as Phyfe May return Heise returns and their young guys get even better. The addition of Hutson certainly does not hurt.

I have no doubt UNI will be tough. This year was a down year for them IMO after Green leaving and some injuries. UNI coach is too good for that program to be down for long. Barring any major transfers this year I expect the MVC to be stronger next year than it was this year. Will be tougher for BU but good overall IMO.

Always amazes how quick some of these guys commit after going into the portal. I suppose to be generous maybe he has previous relationships that made it his desired destination.
