Transfer portal

Hutson commits to UNI…. UNI could be a real problem next year as Phyfe May return Heize returns and their young guys get even better. The addition of Hutson certainly does not hurt.

Good for him. Loyola did not use him well...especially given how poorly their season went (why not get your younger guys more minutes?). I'd rather play for a coach who knows what he's doing. I think he will be a force in the MVC. And he may not be the only LUC transfer that will land in the Valley.

I thought maybe Evan Brauns from Belmont might end up at UNI. He is from Iowa City.
Maybe he'll land at Drake?

Valparaiso guard Cameron Palesse has entered the transfer portal-
https://twitter.com/TVBOren/status/1635707343584231443
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...84/cam-palesse

Palese is a 6'5" redshirt-freshman guard from Waukesha, Wisconsin, who redshirted the 2021-22 season, then only played in 4 games for a total of 9 minutes this season.
He had at least 10 other offers out of high school, including Southern Illinois, Missouri State, UW-Milwaukee, Green Bay, Siena, Fairfield, LIU, Canisius, WIU, and UC Davis.

Also, Jalen Jackson, who left UIC, has transferred to Purdue-Fort Wayne of the Summit League.

Belmont takes another hit. Their starting center Evan Brauns entered the transfer portal yesterday, and today, backup center Frank Jacubicek enters the portal.

Also, backup forward Michael Shanks enters the portal.
https://verbalcommits.com/players/michael-shanks

Last season, head coach Casey Alexander was hurt by the portal, losing 2 of his best players. Will Richard became a starter for Florida, and JaCobi Wood, started all 32 games for Murray State. Both averaged double-digits for their new schools. This year, it's starting to look like more of the same.

MVC players in the transfer portal so far-
Jace Carter- UIC
Jalen Jackson- UIC
Blaise Beauchamp- Evansville
Jonathan Dunn- Missouri State
Evan Brauns- Belmont
Dawson Carper- Missouri State
Kenny White, Jr.- Murray State

Cam Palesse - Valparaiso
Frank Jacubicek- Belmont
Michael Shanks- Belmont

Antoine Smith- Evansville
Jonathan Mogbo- Missouri State

Hard to keep up... another MVC transfer-
6'7" forward Antoine Smith of Evansville enters the portal-
https://verbalcommits.com/players/antoine-smith-jr

Smith was an enigma at Evansville. These last 2 seasons, Smith appeared to be one of the more athletic players with size (6'7") and one of the better 3-point shooters (career 38.6%) on a woefully bad team lacking size, and with very little athleticism, and terrible perimeter shooting. Yet, he hardly ever played under Todd Lickliter, and was relegated to mostly a reserve role under David Ragland.
He has one season remaining for his Covid year.

More turnover for Dana Ford (or whoever replaces him) at Missouri State-
Missouri State junior college transfer big man Jonathan Mogbo (6'8", 225 lb), who played in 30 of their 32 games, and started 28 of them, has entered the portal.
He averaged 8.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg this past season. It's hard to see him getting more playing time elsewhere, so it's hard to understand his reason for transferring. With the transfer of backup center Dawson Carper, Mogbo's transfer leaves Missouri State with only one inside big man, freshman N.J. Benson, who played sparingly and averaged only 2.8 ppg and 2.5 rpg. Expect whoever their coach is to be active again recruiting the transfer portal.

My most and least favourite time in college basketball. I LOVE the Madness but despise the dreaded portal.

Who will we lose this year ?!?!?

How long ‘til the Cardinals season opener ???

Illinois State 6'10" forward Joe Petrakis enters the transfer portal. He is well travelled. He started at Dodge City junior college in 2018-19, and averaged 4.8 ppg and 3.1 rpg. Then he transferred to Kansas State for 2019-20 as a walk-on and apparently redshirted. Then in 2020-21 at Kansas State, he barely got off the bench, averaging 1.4 ppg and 0.5 rpg. Then he transferred to Western Carolina for 2021-22, where he was a starter and averaged 8.0 ppg and 3.2 rpg. Then he transferred for the 3rd time to Illinois State for 2022-23. In 22 games for the Redbirds this season, he averaged 1.9 ppg and 1.3 rpg. So now he is transferring for the 4th time, and apparently has 1 year of eligibility left.

This is not a MVC transfer, but it's possible he could land back in the MVC-
Loyola senior guard Marquise Kennedy has entered the transfer portal.-
https://twitter.com/portal_updates/s...74343338848257

Kennedy has been a part-time starter for Loyola for 4 seasons, but he had his best season as a freshman, when he shot 51.4% overall and 38% from three. He has been less consistent the last 3 seasons. I expect UIC to recruit him.
He has 1 season of eligibility left as a grad-transfer for his Covid season.

Ben Sheppard appears in a few mock NBA Draft predictions as a late 2nd round draft pick.
These have him at #60-
https://www.nba.com/news/bleacher-report-mock-draft-march-2023
https://www.masslive.com/celtics/20...-take-all-american-among-2nd-round-picks.html

This report says Sheppard told ESPN he will declare for the NBA Draft and forego his remaining college eligibility-
https://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/1636042453424766979

This pro sports agency reports that Ben Sheppard is working with them, which could prevent him from returning to college-
https://twitter.com/GeorgeLangberg/status/1636044300982054915

I can't find any report that he entered the transfer portal, but if he has hired an agent and plans to turn pro, there would be no reason for him to do so.

This mock draft from ESPN has Tucker DeVries at #49-
https://www.espn.com/nba/insider/in...ft-drafting-players-competing-ncaa-tournament
DeVries has not commented on his future plans.

Another Belmont player enters the transfer portal, their 4th one-
E.J. Bellinger- 6'4" senior guard who has been a reserve at Belmont and never started a game in his 4-year career. This season, he averaged playing 7.2 minutes, and averaged 3.8 ppg. He was a 40.5% three point shooter. He will be a grad-transfer with one more season of eligibility.
