2025 and beyond recruits

Amari McCottry commits and signs with St. Louis University. - https://twitter.com/SeanPaulCBB/status/1781721426694922726

I am not too surprised. He'll get a significant amount of playing time as a freshman now.
I also think this may not be the worst thing. Coach Wardle said he was looking for a high school recruit, but there are a lot of junior college kids as well as international options still available, many of whom we have listed in this thread. And those might be recruits who can help Bradley more this coming season.

There are still plenty of good players left just need to find the right one that fits for Bradley. We have 2 rides left and to me our needs is for another big or wing and a shooting guard. Preferably players that have 2 years or more since we have a huge amount of players leaving after next season.

I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him target a high school player. Next years roster looks pretty old.

Yes, but isn't that mostly a good thing? I'm not against recruiting high school kids, but the "old roster" blueprint has worked pretty well for Wardle and the Braves the last couple seasons. And it worked well for Drake in the past. I just don't want to see the coaches get desperate just because we don't have enough freshmen and recruit a kid in late April when there isn't a lot of talent left.
And with the portal now, it doesn't lead to a depleted roster when the 4th and 5th year guys leave.
I think I'd rather have a veteran team every year, instead of going through frequent rebuilding years with young guys who don't contribute much initially, and then leave when they don't get enough playing time..

While I agree they shouldn’t grab a HS kid they don’t really want-I think there is value in a blend of years even in the portal era. Right now we definitely lose Darius, Duke, Zek, Christian, Connor Dillon plus the possibility a scholarship is used on Linke or Hardtke. It might feel good next year to add another player with a lot of experience but it leaves the staff to find at least 5 players ready to step in and that assumes nobody else leaves. That sets us up for very lean year(s). Assuming this years portal players are a success which I assume-remember that is one player coming back to BU and one coming home to Peoria. We have not yet shown we are really adept at luring good seasoned players from the portal. So, going from little historical success in the portal to assuming we can hit on 5+ players is o big spin of the roulette wheel.

A couple more D2 players that Bradley has shown interest in-
Northern Michigan 6'4" sophomore guard Max Weisbrod. Northern Michigan finished 22-11, and 14-4 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Weisbrod lead the team with 17.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 4.4 apg, and he shot 43.3% overall and 39.1% from three. He is originally from DeForest, Wisconsin.

And Marcus Johnson, 6'7" junior forward, originally from Akron, Ohio, at Wheeling University in Wheeling, West Virginia. He averaged 21.6 ppg and 7.9 rpg this season. He shot 47.2% overall and 44.7% from three. He also lead the team in assists (3.1 apg).

One of the top D2 transfer portal players still available- Marcus Johnson - https://twitter.com/PDTScouting/status/1781969106981269562

Idk anything about Johnson character wise but if he’s coachable and a good person I’d take him immediately.

player profile wise he’s a bucket getter, and imo in the valley would be an absolute matchup nightmare, especially with the weapons we already have.

Unique size and skill set

I would be completely against Hardtke and Linke because we already have 5 players that will be leaving after this season. Those players would make it 6 or 7 .I also wonder how much NIL money is left to give to the last two recruits. That could be the difference in who we are able to get for next season.

DC have you heard if we are close on anyone for next season? I know the undergrad portal window doesn't close until 5/1 so things still being sorted out, but it seems quiet.

There are a number of recruits and transfers they are still talking to. I don't know how close they are to receiving a commitment.

He seems like a good fit with his skillset for what we need. Decent size. Be another senior tho.

One more name from the portal that Bradley has been in contact with- Joe Octave, 6'4" senior guard at Holy Cross. He is originally from Gardena, California. He played 2 seasons at Air Force, then the last two at Holy Cross. He has one season of eligibility left for his Covid year.
This past year as a senior, he started 29 of 31 games, and lead the team in scoring with a 14.6 ppg average.
