2010-2011 Schedule

So...what about Drexel?
Are we definitely playing there next year? Probably? Probably not?

I think the rule is that the game is delayed until '11-'12 unless both teams come up with an agreement for '10-'11. New BracketBuster rule for all matchups.

Seeing as though we need home game depth behind Utah and NIU (BB is on the road, WCU and UIC are probable road games too), I wouldn't be surprised if we delay it a year. If you go to Drexel, you'd prefer to pair it with an east coast game against a premier team for SoS purposes, and doing both this year would start to stretch us thin, IMO.

We pretty much have to run the table to get that piece, to be frank.

Ya that is the point I was trying to make, I don't want to be in that position. As is, this is by far the worst Non-Con schedule we have had in years. There isn't one game I am super excited about.

It would be a disappointment to have the pressure of having to run the table to make it, and while I think we have the talent to do so, I don't want to have to do it. We have a great chance to make the NCAA's next year, but not as an at-large with this schedule. And we certainly won't be better than an 8/9 seed or ranked even if we do really well with a schedule like this. Look at how great UNI was this year, and they were only a 9 seed! WSU had a decent record and wasn't even in the conversation. Neither had that marquee win to be recognized.

We need to get a good game or two on here to make this season as special as it could be, or we will have a lot of pressure to win every night. Get some mid-majors from the A10 or St. Mary's if you can't get the big boys. I know JL is trying his best, but it is frustrating to me in such a crucial year to see this schedule. He has been a great scheduler, and it is tough for "mid-majors", but we need it now more than ever this year.

It is not over yet though, and I'm sure JL will do the best he can to get the best schedule, and we will just have to wait and see. I'm anxious about it though.

Yeah man, its May, like 5 months left, lets wait til sept. to freak out about the schedule... ;)

So...what about Drexel?

I thought I heard JL say in a postgame show near the end of the year that we would NOT be taking the return game this year because he had nearly filled up the schedule.

MVC schools have the option of delaying their Bracket Buster return game by a year. This was worked out by Elgin. Given the rotating nature of the BB, it was theoretically possible that a Valley school could have both their BB and return game on the road in the same season. It was also possible with the advent of the MVC-MWC challenge that game would be on the road as well.

So Bradley (even though their MWC challenge game is a homer) initially chose to exercise its option to delay its BB return game to Drexel by one season.

However, scheduling is an ever-evolving thing. They could piggyback the return game on to another higher-profile east coast game by delaying it by a year.

But I wouldn't be opposed to them working the game in next year on the way back from Springfield, Mass.

Haha I know, I just want my Braves to have the best season possible as we all do. I'm still in basketball mode, I have to remember it is only May lol. The excitement for next year is making me even more anxious though. I can barely contain myself I am so excited! That is why I am worried so early.

Guys it's also worth noting that while that schedule isn't great looking its still much better than what WSU or especially isu played last season. It wouldn't do us great favors but if we actually went undefeated against it it wouldn't kill us either.

Again, nothing official has been announced. However, when there were announcements about last year's Red-White being cancelled, there was talk that it would be resumed this fall at the new arena. I expect that to happen, but we'll probably have to wait a couple months for the official word.

It's now late June...
How does Duke sound for a schedule addition, BUfan14?
Bet you're bustin' at the seams now (along with many of us fans) to get the season underway!

Our away/neutral schedule is looking pretty good, with USC, UMass, Drexel, WCU, and now Duke... but...

Do we have any confirmed home noncon games besides the 2 tournament home games, Northern Illinois, and Utah? If not, thats a pretty underwhelming home schedule.

Meh average get at best not that excited still.....just kidding I'm really pumped up now!

JL always comes through big in the scheduling department and I don't know how he does it. As a "mid-major" it must be unbelievably tough, yet every year he pulls out a surprise like this. A credit to him for sure. Great job JL and BU!

Wait! Did I miss out on something?
I thought the Drexel game was most likely to be pushed back to the following season.
Is there a confirmation that we're playing them now?

I'm SOOOOO ecstatic that we are Visiting Duke!!! :D :D (Hopefully we can get a return game and a Home-Away Series w/ Butler!) I think we just blew the Valley and most Mid-Majors out of the water as far as SOS goes, now to just take advantage of that!

We still have a bit of work left to do to complete the schedule.
I'd hate to see us getting a great game @ Duke, followed by a couple cup-cake match-ups. Let's continue to get the toughest non-conf. schedule possible!
I know it's VERY difficult - let's get at least 1 more quality game...maybe at Carver.

We can't hinge our whole non-conf. schedule on playing Duke. Even if we make it close, we'll need a couple more quality wins to impress the committee.

The Western Carolina return game could loom large.

I agree. We need at least one, if not two quality teams at home. If the big boys won't play us here, I'd like to see us snag one or two of the following at home:

Dayton, Xavier, Temple, Charlotte, St. Mary's, Siena, Old Dominion (amongst two or three from the CAA), Kent St. (or whomever the MAC favorites will be), Tulsa, UTEP, Memphis, Utah St and Murray St, amongst others. I'm sure I'm missing a few other solid mid-majors, but these are the type of teams that would qualify as quality wins that would help enhance our non-conference resume. And I would not just stop with Utah from the MWC. Why not go for BYU again, or New Mexico St. as well?

This just goes to show that there are plenty of like-minded mid-majors that still maybe looking for a last minute game to fill out their schedules. Hopefully one of these teams will bite.
