2010 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic update

5 of the 8 teams have been determined for the tournament that will take place November 20-21, 2010 in Springfield, Massachusetts.-
University of Massachusetts
University of Southern California
Bradley
New Mexico State
Rider
Three other teams are in the process of being finalized. UMass will play New Mexico State, and Bradley will take on USC, in two of the four games on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the MassMutual Center. The winners of those games will meet Sunday, Nov. 21. The losing teams in those two games will play each other as well.

Each of the eight schools will play four games apiece in the tournament - two in Springfield and two at campus sites. UMass, USC, Bradley and New Mexico State will serve as host schools with two home games each.

On the surface it would appear disappointing that the tournament couldn't do a little better than New Mexico St for the last team; however they did go to the NCAA Tournament, finished with an RPI of 51, and return 4 of their top 5 scorers. They took Michigan St down to the wire last year in the 1st round of the tournament, and look to be just as good this year. I am glad that we get USC in the first game, and I expect us to play and beat New Mexico St for a title in the second game. New Mexico St should be very good again next year. A BCS win and a win over a potential WAC champion could look very good come March.
 
After hearing Hawaii was a possibility this year this is just dissapointing to me. Yes I understand its not about ME but I REALLY look forward to travelling with BU and WARM weather destinations are SOOOOO much more appealing.

I don't know if I can do UMASS in November.....
 
USC is a better draw than woeful host UMASS and New Mex st would be ok too. Depending on how bad the 3 other cream puff teams are, this looks to be an ok tournament, but the more and more our non-con shapes up, it appears we will have ZERO margin for error if we want to have any at-large hopes whatsoever. If roadies at UIC and Drexel materialize, that would mean we have:
@WCU, @UIC,@drexel, @bracketbuster
Home-loyola, NIU, Utah, 2 cream puffs
Neutral- USC,New mex st

Gives us one more date to fill. This is hardly an impressive non-con. we'd really need to be 10-1 or 9-2 at WORST to have aspirations of at -large and no worse than 2nd and 13-5 in conf, and a title game appearance in st louis. 24-8 MAYBE gets it done. anything less is NITing for sure.
 
Why on God's green earth would we go to UIC again?

If it is only to get a game in Chicago, that is disappointing. It's one thing to get a game in Chicago, but when you take a road game you should never take to reach that end, is just plain maddening.

I have multiple issues with it. UIC is probably not a quality opponent next year. It is a game we are capable of losing. I maintain consistency on my view we should never play a Horizon League team unless their name is Loyola or Butler, or we are drawn them by a third party. And finally, they screwed our fans over on seating the last time we went there, so why should we ever help them sell tickets?
 
The big games that should give us a challenge this year will be Western Carolina, USC, New Mexico St., & Utah. We'd better win 3 of these 4. We should be expected to win the others - maybe we'll have a challenging BB match-up on the road.
I like the fact that NMS will be in this tourney. Might be our toughest non-conf. game (provided we beat USC). Hopefully we'll play them like we played vs. our second opponent in last year's Vegas tourney - what was that school again?

Agree on all counts. We should only be playing in Chicago if it's against DePaul, Northwestern, or in a tournament at the Sears Centre, Allstate Arena, or United Center.

Myself I would have rather won the first game in the Vegas tourney and play for the championship than beat any team in the 2nd game because we both lost.
 
I, for one, am thrilled! This is less than 4 hours from my house, if I can avoid the traffic around Hartford. I am lucky to see one game live a year. If we schedule Drexel this year, I may see as many as four!

I'll have to yell real loud, however, to make up for the limited number of BU fans in the place.....

I have a feeling you wont have to yell to loud to be heard for any of these games, I doubt there will be much in regards to attendance for any of the games.

I would love to go to this tourney, simply because of the fact it is at the basketball hall of fame. I think it would be an incredible experience as a basketball fan to see. 4 games, 2 with Bradley involved and the hall of fame... if they sell beer what exactly are the draw backs?

Here is some information I got directly from Bobby Parker in the Bradley Athletic Department; hope it clarifies some issues about Bradley's schedule next year that have been mis-stated-
There is no game scheduled against UIC or Loyola for next year.
So far, the only games definitely on the schedule are four games in the HOF Tip-Off Tournament (2 home TBA’s and vs USC and UMasss/NMSU in Springfield, MA), home versus Northern Illinois and Utah and road games at Western Carolina and BracketBusters. That is a total of 8 non-conference games already scheduled. There will also be 18 conference games.
That leaves four more non-conference games left to schedule, which they are working on.
Also, as far as Butler goes, according to BP, Bradley reached the end of the contract with Butler. There is currently no plan to play Butler again, though that could change in the future.
And, the plan is to return the BracketBuster game at Drexel in the 2011-2012 season, not this coming year.
 
The simple fact this is the week before T'giving week increases the opportunity for TV and national exposure. It sound great to me.
 
All of this non-conference schedule talk is nothing compared to the MVC conference schedule. I just want BU to focus 100% on winning the MVC and MVC Tournament and that will take care of our NCAA birth right there.

Too bad about the Butler deal ending. I was really holding out hope for that to happen. Now what about Xaiver, Dayton & Cincinnati?
 
I like what we're doing. So if not UIC or Loyola, why not play DePaul at the Allstate Arena. I think the last game we played with them was in Peoria so lets start up another two game series. I think we're buddy/buddy with them, and did do a scrimmage with them last year, and I think we've won the last 3 or 4 games so maybe they'd like to attempt to take the bragging rights back. But JMHO, a big time college in central Illinois should always try to play a game in Chicago every year.
