2016 transfer list

Here is an intriguing one...

DI Lewis University star Max Strus...who is a sophomore but maybe would be a grad transfer if he's got the coursework doner - a 6-6 guard (Jeremy Crouch-type) - good shooter, can definitely create his own shot,
and yet plays well in all other aspects.... hits close to 50% overall, 36% from the arc, 82% on FTs
is leaving and planning to transfer to a DI - like Jimmy Gavin did...
He is a solid DI talent averaging 20.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg, and 3.5 asst
He already has well over 1000 career points and has two years of eligibility left.
He may have to sit out a year if he does not get the grad-transfer exemption.

Check this out-
In an early season game against ISU back on November 10, 2014, Max went for 30 pts, hitting 11-16 & 7-11 from 3-pt

Then check what he did in this game!

here's an appealing transfer case.....
Austin Arians is transferring from Milwaukee after Coach Rob Jeter was fired.
There could be others, but Arians is experienced and eligible immediately -
11.4 ppg, 85% on FTs, 35.3% on 3-pt, 4 rpg, and extremely few turnovers - only 21 all season in over 1000 min of play. (Compare to most players on our team had 50-60+ turnovers in 700-800 min of play)
I'm guessing Brian Wardle knows the kid since he is from Stoughton, WI (just outside Madison) was Class of 2012.

When we last played Milwaukee in 2013, Arians had 17 pts, 5 rebs and hit 4-8 from beyond the arc.

This is kind of surprising since he already transferred from NIU and thus sat out. Unless of course he has graduated. If I am not mistaken he will have to sit out again, and thus will only have one year left.

Akeem Springs spoke out and harshly attacked the current AD - who is not at all well liked by athletes & fans - so I guess you can imagine his goose is cooked at UWM - and I suspect he has no choice but to transfer.
But he has been in college since 2012 (one year at NIU and the last 3 years at UW-M - one of which was a redshirt) so according to this column,
HE IS "IN LINE TO GRADUATE after taking summer courses" and thus would be immediately eligible next season.

An AD or University President that sabotages their own programs just so they can look powerful or get the thrill of picking their own head coach replacements - are ego-maniacs - they will ultimately undermine all their programs and destroy any credibility they have, plus they will deeply insult and offend a huge number of fans & supporters and create financial havoc overnight. We've seen it before, and now it's happening at UW-M.

that surprises me..thought he'd be in line for some playing time there

Yes and no. He was very very talented and quick, but took a lot of very quick shots. He got a lot of playing time when Fred was down, but Shamet and Frankamp were also out at that time. Next year he would have been as far down if not farther down the guard rotation as this year. Next years 1 and 2 will have these players fighting for time.
Shamet - 6'4 4* talent, medical redshirt this year, Will play some PG
Frankamp - 6'0, 4* top 50 talent that didn't impress this year deferring to Fred/Ron, Will play PG
Smith - 6'4 Junior Juco Transfer, Will play PG
Allen - 6'5, 3* transfer from Texas A&M, transfer redshirt last year - Primarly SG
Keyser - 6'3 4* Freshman combo guard
Reaves - 6'5 Freshman guard, probably a combo of SG/PG

That's 6 players fighting over 40 minutes at 2 spots, with 4 of those probably already higher on the rotation list (Frankamp, Shamet, Smith, Allen) and the other 2 have 3-5 inches on him.

He will be a great player somewhere, just didn't fit well in the offense.

...just didn't fit well in the offense.

ok - now I gotta ask....
- first, the kid obviously has played and pursued basketball for 15 years or so..
and he's been involved in the recruiting process for 3-4 years...
and I am sure he saw Wichita play, talked with the coaching staff and had about as COMPLETE of an understanding of what Wichita's OFFENSE is and what the coaches expect..

Then we hear such an excuse (and we hear this all the time)
"I just didn't fit in with the offense" or "I am transferring to play somewhere that suits my style better..."

???what??? How did the guy not discover that his style of play didn't fit or that he didn't fit the offense until a YEAR after he'd been there?

Nope, I prefer to believe 99% of these transfers, even when the kid says he didn't fit - have NOTHING to do with the kid's style or the "style" of offense...
they are kids who aimed too high and never had the talent, or kids who were totally misjudged by the coaching & recruiting staff (like Chris Blake, Stefan Zecevic, Jermaine Morgan, Anthony Fields, and dozens of others were by Geno) or were possibly kids who wore out their welcome with behavior issues.

I kind of agree but kind of disagree. Just sticking to Taylor, maybe it's just that he couldn't grasp the offense? In the times he did run the offense, it never ran smoothly. WSU's offense tends to run longer sets to try to find a good shot. Whenever Ty was running the offense, we tended to take a lot quicker shot (normally by Ty). Here are a few game stats
@Loyola: 2 Shots, 1 minute played
vs MSU: 2 Shots, 4 min played
VS NMSU: 4 Shots, 3 min played
@Drake: 2 Shots, 4 min played
vs Bradley: 7 Shots, 13 min played
VS Iowa: 8 Shots, 12 min
VS Bama, 15 shots, 30 min
vs US: 10 Shots, 18 min

The rest of the games he really didn't play in. But he is averaging a shot every 1-2 minutes.

While Fred had a couple of games that approached 1 shot every 2 minutes, the vast majority of the games were a lot lower (average through the whole year is a shot every 3-4 min.

Fred also had a 2 shot per assist ratio and an assist every 5 minutes, where Ty took 7 shots for every assist and an assist every 14 minutes.

I know I'm comparing an All-American to a true freshman here, but this is what I mean for style of play. Ty showed that he was a shoot-first PG, which is fine sometimes, but not when you shoot 29%. The offense isn't built to get the PG jumpers. That's what ended up happening. The screens set at the top to free up the PG, are designed to get them into the paint to dish out or to a big man. Ty was taking those looks from 3 or just inside the 3 point line without continuing the rest of the offense.

Would that have changed over time? I don't know, I don't see the practices. I'm sure Marshall was honest with him about upcoming playing time and he chose to continue somewhere else. If Ty played in a system like Evansville that is designed to get a guard lots of looks off screens, then maybe it would have been more successful.

As far as why it took a year to figure that out? I don't know either. Its hard to judge a kid on a HS team as far as tendencies because generally DI players are the best players on their HS teams, so they tend to try to create more for themselves because they don't have good options. Coaches hope that can be molded and controlled once they make it to DI, but it doesn't always work that way.

you're getting another kid who also misjudged "style of play"...as I read Peyton Allen also left Texas A&M to find a place that suited his style better..
Kinda tough break - given that he played starter minuites there as a freshman - but apparently felt threatened by a good incoming class..
...then the year he leaves they have arguably their best year ever - advancing to the Sweet 16, as far as they have ever gone in the NCAA

Yea, I thought about that with Peyton. I have pretty high hopes for him. Marshall has spoken very highly of him. Whenever they needed to prepare for a high scoring guard (Beane, Balentine, etc), they would use Allen in practice. Marshall's comment was "He's just as good, except he doesn't miss" ... Though Marshall and Bill Self also called Frankamp the "best shooter I've ever coached" and that didn't really translate 100% on the floor last year. Wait and see ha!
