2020-21 Coaching carousel

Tony Barbee is the frontrunner to be named head coach at Central Michigan-
https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/sta...21173222739969

Barbee has had 2 previous head coaching positions-
UTEP 2006-2010 - overall record 82-52
Auburn 2010-2014 - overall record 49-75

He has been on John Calipari's staff at Kentucky since 2014. If he gets the Central Michigan job, it is likely that Illinois assistant Orlando Antigua will return to Kentucky to fill the assistant spot.

In addition to losing Tony Barbee, Kentucky will be losing another staff member, assistant coach Joel Justus, who is reported to be leaving to become an assistant at Arizona State under Bobby Hurley.

There have been reports that John Calipari is interested in re-hiring Illinois assistant Orlando Antigua-
https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/sta...21173222739969

And now if another staff spot opens, there are reports Calipari may also be interested in hiring Illinois assistant (and former Bradley assistant) Ronald "Chin" Coleman-
https://twitter.com/GoodmanHoops/sta...01300322177024

Coleman and Antigua have played key roles in recruiting much of Illinois head coach Brad Underwood's talent. If both coaches leave, it could be a blow to Illinois' future recruiting. Illinois will need some rebuilding this off-season. Adam Miller has already entered the transfer portal, Da'Monte Williams may follow, and the top 2 stars, Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn intend to enter the NBA Draft. That is potentially 4 of their starters from this past season who may not return.

It sounds like Jim Molinari isn't going to be out of work for very long. New Boston College head coach Earl Grant is reported to be hiring Jim as an assistant on his staff.

Congratulations to Coach Mo, and good luck!
Boston College finished the 2020-21 season dead last in the ACC with a record of 4-16 overall, and 2-11 in the ACC.

Boston College officially announces the hiring of Jim Molinari as assistant coach under new head coach Earl Grant-

Another former Bradley guy may be getting a new job- There are rumors that new IUPUI head coach Matt Crenshaw might be hiring former Bradley player Billy Wright as an assistant coach.
Wright was formerly the head coach at Western Illinois from 2014-2020.

Wright was formerly the head coach at Western Illinois from 2014-2020.

Wright was hired as an assistant coach at Ball State, as was Linc Darner, who had succeeded Brian Wardle at UWGB.

Good for Billy.
The head coach at Ball State is James Whitford, who has been there 8 years and seems pretty secure.
Billy takes a spot on the Ball State staff after they lost 2 assistants. One was Matt Crenshaw, who left to take the IUPUI head coaching job, and was rumored to be considering Billy for his new staff at IUPUI. Ball State (Muncie, IN) puts Billy very close to his original home town of Richmond, Indiana.

In a strange move, Bethune-Cookman has just named Reggie Theus as their new AD and head men's basketball coach.

College basketball writer Jeff Goodman notes that this move screws interim head coach Dominique Taylor, who has been the acting head coach for the last 3+ months and recruited many of the players on the roster. Plus, if any player want to transfer now because of the coaching change, they cannot take advantage of the one-time penalty-free NCAA transfer rule, which ended July 1st.

Being reported that DePaul will fire Dave Leitao...
I wonder if Javon Freeman-Liberty is having second thoughts.
DePaul has been a disaster. They have finished in last place in the Big East for the last 5 years, and haven't had a winning Big East record since 2006-07 under Jerry Wainwright.

Javon Freeman Liberty has now spent 2 seasons at DePaul after he was at Valparaiso for 2 seasons. DePaul finished last his first season, and this year they are next-to-last, only because winless Georgetown is so bad-
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/standings/_/group/4

But in a very oddly timed announcement (DePaul still has one more game plus the Big East Tournament), in DePaul's postgame press conference last night Freeman-Liberty said that he is done with DePaul, and will not be returning next year-

Later he went on Twitter to personally advertise that he is available-

This was predicted by some on these boards, I believe. Nobody likes to be a loser and DePaul just hasn't been good for a very long time.
