2026 Portal transfers

UIC gets a portal transfer from Lucas Scroggins, a 6'9" forward at St. Peter's University in Jersey City, NJ.
He started at Valparaiso with a redshirt year in 2023-24. Then he played in 2024-25, but only saw action in 6 games, averaging 3 ppg. This past season, as a redshirt sophomore, he played in 27 games and started 15. He averaged 5.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Now he's transferring back to the MVC.

a late portal entrant is another big man - Sasa Ciani, who didn't get much chance to play at Penn State
but the year before when he was at UIC he averaged 10 ppg & 8 rpg...in just 20 min per game.

also in the portal - a big man who averaged 16 ppg at CMU

and a kid from Brian Wardle's high school alma mater - Hindale Central, a 37% 3-point shooter
Someone like Sasa Ciani would be an asset for a team like Bradley. He was a ferocious rebounder when we saw him at UIC. He was a close 2nd in rebounding in the MVC to Cooper Schwieger in 2024-25 with 7.6 rpg, and he did that in just 20 minutes per game off the bench.

And speaking of Cooper Schwieger, he was a stud for 2 seasons at Valparaiso (Freshman of the Year in 2024, 2nd team All-MVC in 2025, averaged 15 ppg over 2 seasons). But he tested the portal a year ago and landed at Wake Forest, probably with a nice bag of NIL money. But this past season Wake Forest was just 18-17, and 7-11 in the ACC, and despite that crappy record, they got an NIT bid but were knocked out by Illinois State.
As a junior at Wake, Schwieger lost his starting position early and came off the bench most of the season. He averaged only 5.1 ppg and a paltry 2.5 rpg and played less as the season progressed. His season ended against Illinois State in the 2nd round of the NIT, with him scoring just 2 points (1-5 from the floor) and 1 rebound in 17 minutes, plus a game-high 3 turnovers that helped ISU beat the Deacons 78-75.
Cooper Schwieger's name is back in the transfer portal. Would he be smart to return to the MVC?

and here's an interesting one....
one of the best players in the Missouri Valley last year, Valparaiso's All Wright - hit the portal last spring and
transferred to Xavier. But he didn't play as much as he would have liked and Xavier was not good - .......and now...
HE'S HEADED BACK TO THE PORTAL TO TRANSFER AGAIN! Would he consider the MVC again? (doubt it)
All Wright transfers to LMU (Loyola Marymount) who were mediocre last year, 15-17, NET 182 and 6-12, 10th place in
the West Coast Conference, which will soon lose Gonzaga and possibly St. Mary's to the new Pac-12

....InSU’s Derek Vorst in the portal.
Vorst commits to Cleveland State, I think he got a raw deal at Indiana State....his numbers prove he was one of the best big men in the MVC

in the game he played against Bradley he had 17 pts and 11 reb and looked unstoppable...
He played at Indiana State in a system under Graves that barely utilized a big man.
He only played 22 games & 20 min per game in those games yet averaged 55.5% shooting, 8 ppg & 4 rpg and less than 1 turnover per game.
His per 40 min totals aren't too far from what Fred King or Chase Walker had.

If he got 30 min in a system where the guards & wing players didn't hog 90% of the shots, he could be very good.
Vorst took only 110 of the 1807 shots taken by the team (just 6%) and was 8th in minutes played (7% of the team's minutes played- and yet was their 4th leading scorer
AND he was their best 3-point shooter at 42%

Another case of a player who was a member of the 2018 recruiting class seeking a waiver for a 9th year of eligibility-
He has had numerous injury issues, but even when healthy, he has never averaged more than 5 points per game-

SIU's Max Pikaar gets into the portal just before it closes, he's a 7-0 sophomore from the Netherlands.
He had minimal production but got very little playing time there. That leaves SIU pretty well gutted.
Jaheem Webber, who played just 135 minutes all season, may be one of their most experienced guys.

The two ISU players who have entered the portal (Ty Pence and Tyreek Coleman) ...
and in another somewhat lateral move....Pence commits to Akron,
altho Akron did make the NCAA Tourney this year - and got blasted in their 1st round game

Made me think of this clip.

You think at some point it is time to move on though?

Drake appears to have gotten a quality transfer- Jon Carroll, a 6'7" forward who started about 2/3 of the games this season at Morehead State. He averaged 11.2 ppg and 7.9 rpg. He's probably a starter for them next season, as they do not appear to have much size. He is not much of a perimeter shooter, and was 0-1 from three this season.

How did Jon Carroll get out of junior college averaging 19.3 ppg & 10 rpg and only get a Morehead State offer?
I kinda wish BU would have spotted this guy at juco in 2025 and offered.

in a related story, Darnell Brodie plans to enter the portal in case NCAA approves his 15th year waiver
