82 BU vs 69 ETS

Just back from the game. First and foremost, GET WELL WILL EGOLF!

I havent been able to see this team since the exhibition games, but imo, with Will Egolf in the lineup this team has a swagger to it. I am not one to make too bold of a statement, but from what I saw tonight, with Will in the lineup, we have a real shot to win the MVC!

AS for DC, all I have to respectfully say is that we need to get AT some minutes:!:

I am not saying by any means that he is going to be cleared to play anytime soon. I still think regardless of how he feels that he is going to be out for a while. This is nothing like high school where you play through the pain, we need him for conference.

Yeah...I'm sure most of you know this but just because it doesn't hurt and he's walking around doesn't mean it's not an ACL.

In high school 3 of my friends tore their acl's 4 times (yes between the 3 of them) and two of them said that it didn't hurt and were walking on it the same day. They got their hopes up and needless to say were very disappointed when they found out they would be missing entire seasons.

That's true, for all we know, he could of fractured something also. For those that didn't see it, in addition to other people's description of it... Will went down, grabbed his knee immediately and slammed his fist on the floor 5 times. He didn't attempt to move his leg/knee after he went down. I think, even with a negative MRI, he'll be out for at least 2 months. Has to get healthy and then into game shape. Playing in Jim's run and gun offense takes longer to get into game shape I do believe. Tough break for Will though, he was really starting to step up and was proud of himself for it. Always like to see the guys work for a starting spot and then succeed. Either way, someone is going to have to step up, that person I would like to see is Taylor Brown. He's been on that ball every minute he plays, just needs to work on his defensive sets a tad bit.

Will is due to get an MRI on Sunday, then we'll know more details of the injury. The fact that he went down without any blow to the knee makes it hard to guess.

Sometimes a freak injury like this can involve torn ligaments, or cartilage damage, but I have seen similar injuries where there is very little damage to the interior knee structures. So lets hope it is not so serious. Usually, ACL injuries don't produce the kind of severe pain Will was showing. But I am not going to guess what happened.

As for the game--
Pigram is a nice player, but he's not much of a point guard, he appears more suited to the 2-guard position. Though he was credited with 5 assists, he rarely helped set up his teammates for shots. Mostly the ETSU team's offense involved Pigram launching long shots, or wither Smith or Tiggs going one-on-one to try to score.

But the most noticeable problem ETSU showed was that despite having a bunch of very athletic guys, I was surprised that they played poor defense and their stars seemed to take a lot of plays off on defense. Their zone defense was very weak, and allowed a lot of open shots, and inside passes, and their man-to-man defense was not very good either. I'd like to think Bradley scored at will, and shot 58% overall, and 54% on threes because of their great shooting skills, but I am afraid it had a lot to do with ETSU's poor defense.
But I'll take it.

Really nice, solid games by Dodie Dunson, Chris Roberts, Sam Maniscalco, Theron Wilson, and very good contributions by Taylor Brown, Eddren McCain, and Will Egolf. There were long stretches where all 3 freshmen played at he same time, and they held their own against a veteran lineup for ETSU.

talked to him a little bit ago, and he said it feels fine now, he is wearing a brace and walking on it and he is having an MRI in the morning

I am not a DOC, , Sorry, but doubt it. I have seen this happen TO many times. Just the way he grabbed his knee, shows me he was in INTENSE discomfort. Hope this is not both MCL and ACL ala Shaun Livingston.
Really hope you are right Tornado!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to overlook the fact that Will is a great person, but our offense just flows better with a big athletic, defense minded center, who can score. Without him, we seem to struggle.
He came into the Richmond game and we played considerably better, and won.
Tonight we looked awesome, until he went down.
However, my thoughts and prayers are with Will as a person.

Tks F-byrd for the report. We'll have to wait to hear a "damage report/status" after the MRI results.

I quoted Grassman for a couple reasons. One is of the good observation he made and reported on his discomfort. From my angle, he seemed to seize the pass and notice the open-ness/free-ness he had for an easy score and tried to make a too quick of a twist/turn on his knee. Now.... no clue as to if this is the culprit, but maybe he had something pop into his knee-joint area... not really tearing anything just "buckling" him and not allowing him to close his knee-cap - therefore the quick drop to the floor. The cartilage or tendon slipping into the knee pocket can be VERY painful and can create a lot of discomfort... then, maybe in WE's case, it pops back out. So not much swelling - might be able to resume normal activities within a couple days to a week, but.... but... this becomes an issue for WE to always contain his range of twisting/turning on this knee for fear of the "popping" back-in occurs. And some point down the road (maybe in the off-season) surgery can be done to fully correct it.

2ndly quote Grassman, as he pointed out the difference WE's departure made. I think ETSU went on a 20-7 run before Bradley got some starters back in and maintained a lead to the finish. But it was amazing how without WE that Pigram became more able to score and ETSU was able to get work around the glass for rebounds.

One observation I had on this game, did ETSU even try to win? They made that great comeback to get within 11 at the three minute mark, then they let Bradley sit there and throw the ball around for 35 seconds, and then they fouled with one second left on the shot clock. At no time did I see them fouling to put BU at the line. And when they were on offense in the guts of the game they were in no hurry there either. Strange.

I hope for the best, and believe me, I am the farthest thing from a doctor. But I just don't see this being anything less than a season-altering injury, and more than likely a season-ending injury. There was no contact, no collision, nothing. It kind of reminds me of the injury Bobby Fraser suffered last December. Similar to Will's, it was in a blowout, on a non-contact play. He simply pivoted and his leg didn't go with him. Despite BU continuing to play great basketball as a team, I can't help but being extremely depressed at seeing a kid just starting to blossom into star being decimated by an injury. I'm distraught right now. The only silver lining is that WE will certainly qualify for a medical redshirt, which makes for a ridiculously strong frontcourt for years to come. Beyond that, I don't see much to be happy about.

Not to discredit your assertion, as I am sure it's factual. However, I know a few folks who have torn their ACL's, and they've been walking fine right after it happened. They went and got an MRI a day or two later, and found out they had a torn ACL. I just don't see this turning out well, I hope no one gets their hopes up. I guess...hope for the best...but expect the worst. :(

Well said Bradleybrave.. Right now I am just sick thinking about this... We all know what we saw... Hoping for the best but bracing for the worst.

No problem, I wasn't making any guesses, because when it comes to the medical stuff, I know nothing, just relaying what I saw and heard.

That's what I'm worried about as well.

Good win but we're in a whole lot of trouble if we lose WE.

BB, I think you are right. I have no experience with ACL tears personally or with anyone I know, but a couple months ago I watched Tom Brady "twist" his knee (as the commentators said) and it turned out to be a season ending and possibly career altering injury. But he definitely walked off the field with little problem, and was "questionable" to return.

My heart sank when I saw him go down. He had a chance to score his 8th point on a seemingly breakaway dunk which would have capped a great game, but instead were talking redshirt. I have a horrible feeling about this injury which is preventing me from feeling good about this excellent game by BU (minus the last 7-8 minutes).

I actually have torn my ACL in much the same fashion as WE's accident tonight. I was planting my feet to jump when it snapped and I could feel my knee slide and grind together. I grabbed my knee in much the same way as Will and felt the most excrutiating pain. The main difference in my POV is that my knee swelled immediately and it ached like a toothache for the next 48 hrs. So the fact that JL said there was very little swelling and it has been reported he is experiencing no pain, I feel is a good sign. I realize everyone is different, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it was just a strain.
