A lack of class

Let's not be too quick to lump all ISU fans together. I do not think most feel this way, as is demonstrated by Danny Cooksey's post in that discussion. There will always be some animosity between the rival schools, but I think it's much less now than it was in the past.

even typing this much isn even barely worth the time spent to to discuss anything ISU related..

you guys know the saying...
"if you can't go to school, go to state"!

I wonder if those ISU fans had a big celebration last year when Bradley lost their Sweet 16 game last year to Memphis?

I'm not trying to wear out my welcome here, but not all ISU fans feel this way. Yeah there will always be animosity, but I can assure you that most Redbird fans were pulling for BU last year in the NCAA's. I would say 25% might have cheered at the most.

I'd also like to add that the old joke about "can't go to school go to state" is simply an outdated concept. Illinois State academically has undergone an extreme transformation the last 6-7 years. It's now regarded as one of the best public universities in the midwest. I don't have the links handy, but I've read several sources that support this.

It's a good school as much as you claim it's a bad one. I have my BS from Illinois State and I'm proud of it.

Back to the topic at hand, I know several Redbird fans that were very much in support of BU in their NCAA and NIT appearances the last 2 years. You can't lump us all in that pot.

Carry on......

I'm a Bradley supporter.. then a Valley supporter, then a midmajor supporter. I use the can't go to school go to state but really all in good fun. I work with ISU grads and my mom got her masters at ISU (and I'm thinking about it since BU doesn't have the degree I'm looking for).

Also, be comforted, I have another joke, "can't go to state, go to Southern!" Also, really, all in just good fun--- though these days I hate Southern with a fierce passion (but am rooting for them in the NCAA).

So if you see me using it, I really don't mean anything by it...

tFish7 - don't worry, we all know what you are.... you are just a Flamer.

I got 'Flamer' from the 'other' board. They called me that whenever I lit up UIUC when something went bad for them.

I just hope when I die they bury me face down so...

I hear ya Danny. u are a quality, respectful bird fan that represent our rival well. i have many friends that have gone to ISU and if the academic reputation has grown, great.

Dr. Fuller, the dept. chair of philosophy and the honors program at Bradley, once referred to ISU as the K-mart of higher education in a class of his I had. I nearly fell out of my desk laughing. I've been using that since to raz people I know from ISU.

I've had some other profs dis ISU openly in class too. I'm glad the faculty helps keep the rivalry going.

But let ISU's fans say whatever they want, they have no where to go but up.

I can tell you that posts like this are why people at redbirdfan start threads like the one that sparked this thread. As many people that accuse ISU of having no class, there are an equal number of BU fans with elitist attitudes like this (joking or not) that ruffle the feathers of Redbird fans alike.

Most of the posts in the thread are fine and actually supportive.
I don't find anything objectionable, it's just common message board talk.

Good luck to new coach Tim Jankovich, and I am anxious to see how he approaches the Chicago recruiting.
He should have good ties to the Kansas and Texas area jucos.
