Always a Brave team in FINAL FOUR of The Basketball Tournament

Halftime score:
Always a Brave 36
120 Sports 30

The Always a Brave team has been trying to pound the ball inside to Patrick O'Bryant, sometimes trying a little too hard and creating a lot of turnovers. But when POB did get the ball inside, he was able to score a bit. Marcellus Sommerville recovered from a cold shooting stretch in the middle of the first half to sink a couple three pointers late and help the Braves pull out to a 6-point halftime lead at 36-30.

Both teams appear tired, less defense being played, and more fouling and turnovers. But the Braves still lead 50-44 with 13:30 left.

The Braves with some cold shooting and a lot of turnovers allowed the 120 Sports team to climb back within 1, but now it is 70-65 with 1 minute left.

Always a Brave got a little sloppy late, but so did the 120 Sports, and the Braves held on for a 74-68 win.
Patrick O'Bryant made a difference. 120 did not have a big man who could match up with him. But it was Marcellus Sommerville's scoring, especially 3-point shooting that was the biggest factor. Congratulations Braves!

They will play Sunday against the winner of the Bluegrass Boys vs. Jackson, TN.

Fun game to be at. We need more fans! Can't make it tomorrow, so I need someone to fill in for me.

I thought POB would be able to dominate. That wasn't the case, but he had some moments. Not sure what he was thinking jacking up that 3 with a minute left. Cellus was the difference maker. Lots of BU fans in attendance!

Bradley will play the Jackson TN Underdawgs at 2:30 PM Sunday.

Jeremy Weddle- 6'2" shooting guard- played at Lambuth University; has overseas experience- last played in 2009- He lead the Jackson TN Underdawgs with 21 points, 6 rebounds in Saturday's game; He was 6-11 from the floor and 4-8 from three

Many of their players are from Lambuth University, a small, private NAIA university that was located in Jackson, Tennessee.
Lambuth University lost it's accreditation in 2011, and due to financial losses, they ceased operations and closed in 2011. It was purchased by University of Memphis, and is now called University of Memphis- Lambuth.

They have a couple small point guards, who gave the Bluegrass Boys trouble, and they take good care of the ball. They only had 9 turnovers as a team, while the Bluegrass Boys had 18 turnovers.
Their best shooter in Saturday's game was 6'2" guard Jeremy Weddle (21 points, 4-8 from three). They do not have much size- only 2 players on the roster taller than 6'6"- 6'9" Dwayne Curtis, who was scoreless and had only 1 rebound Saturday, and 6'9" Josh Sparks, who did not play at all Saturday. But they held their own rebounding against the taller Bluegrass Boys.
Hopefully, POB's and Cellus' size can be an advantage for the Braves Sunday.

You are right that he did not dominate, but his size did have a big effect keeping the 120 Sports players from getting to the basket too easily. He was only credited with 1 block, but I thought he had a couple more, and he altered several other shots. Plus he drew a lot of defensive attention when the Braves were on offense, which lead to some open shots for Cellus, Will, and Bennett.
I noticed when the Braves team made their runs, it was when POB was on the floor, and they seemed to struggle to score when he was on the bench.
The Braves could use more scoring from the guys off the bench, but otherwise, they surprised me a bit and looked a lot better than they looked at the scrimmage last Monday.

BTW, POB shot 38.1% on threes this past season in Taiwan, so he probably believes he can make those shots. But he was 0-3 today, and I'd rather see him pass that shot up and get closer or let someone else take it.

The Jackson TN kids bill themselves as a group that have played together since middle school so they may be better as a team than many give them credit for

That, and overall physical conditioning 10 years out of college may make as much of a difference as overall basketball skill. I watched part of the Jackson TN game, and if I would have looked at the teams side by side before the game, I would not have picked them to win. We can beat them if we can match their team playing ability, as I believe most of our players are in better condition, have been playing international/D league ball, and are certainly taller!
