I'm with you Chico! In all seriousness, I would bet you that JL would also make one heck of an AD.
Why would anyone think the Hawk would be a good AD?
Not saying he would or wouldn't but what qualifications does he have to fulfill that position?

I'll take a stab at this.. First off, I dont think this will happen, but I think that the Hawk would be a good choice for a number of reaons. While Hawk would lack the experience needed for the AD job, Hawk would provide a check and balance to the situation which I believe is very much needed. He has been a trustee so I am certain he is on a first name basis with numerous trustees at BU. Hawk would also have a degree of stability to the department as he is likeable and well known to everyone. He is also immediately identifiable with the fan base which would also help with fundraising activities.
WE like him! (Didn't you know it's the only opinion that matters?)
OK Ben, The Hawk has my vote! Oops we do not vote.![]()
The President runs the show. She will get someone she wants. BU would be silly to not look outside of the "family" for a new AD. There aren't qualified people in house.
With a new president everyone is on notice that life as they knew it is now different. No one saw/felt this more than Ken Kavanagh. What he did before Glasser arrived was irrelevant.
Now, all the current coaches/staff need to be on notice as well. When a new AD is hired things start fresh. That's the way it works. The president who hired Jim Les is now gone as is the AD he worked for. Again, everyone should realize this.
For better or worse every new hire like AD/President seem to think the world starts with them. The clock starts the minute they arrive, not the years before they arrived. Thats how it is. Joanne Glasser wanted things done her way regardless of the successes/failures of the staff prior to her arrival. Ken Kavanagh did the exact same thing when he got there.
I expect the new AD to do the same thing. If they are running the show they are going to want people they can count on working for them.
Though I agree with much of what you say, I disagree strongly that every new president or AD wipes the slate clean and does the same thing when they arrive. There are many different styles of management, and none are necessarily always better than the others.
Maybe this president want to redo everything, and that may be her style. The last president did not do this, he recognized that the people in charge were competetant and maintained things the same. Likewise, when Ken came in 1996 he didn't immediately run off competetant people and start hiring new coaches.
Of course not all Prez/ADs do this but many do. The last BU prez was hardly ever on campusI wonder if he knew what was going on. So far the current BU prez has shown a very strong inclination to clean house, so to speak, and get who she wants in there.
Ken did not run off coaches but he did run off competant staff on more than one occasion. That was his perrogative at the time and he shouldn't be surprised that the current prez wanted to do the same thing to him. That's the nature of the business.

I'm not a big fan of a micromanager who gets involved in the day-to-day aspect of what the SID, or the Marketing Dept. is doing. Hire good people and TRUST that they will do the job. When you micromanage you aren't focusing on the most important aspects of the job.
