AT's "hype"

Whelliston's CHN article asks whether Anthony Thompson will "live up to the hype." I'm wondering what hype he's talking about. I'd actually LIKE to hear some hype, but all I recall is that he's doing well in workouts and has gained some weight.

Obviously without having seen him play a D-I game, anyone have some reprorts on his potential that I haven't heard?

I think the hype has to do with how we decided to redshirt him because we think he can be a major contributor, and also how he was a top 30 center coming out of high school. Most major basketball recruiting sites would have probably looked at our '07 class and picked AT out as the best recruit.

I agree that AT had some hype out of high school and was ranked pretty high....he seems to run the floor very good for a big...lets hope the extra weight does not slow him down....can't wait to see him on the court!

This is a question so dont beat me up. Is there another player in the MVC like AT? I know you guys know the other teams better than I do but I cant come up with anyone in the MVC with ATs height and his ability to run the floor?

I'm sure KW has a "first-hand" perception of Bradley Fans hype and expectation. KW obviously knows a lot about Bradley to write an article about how Bradley is a renegade program - he must get some "inside" and "up-close" opinions from people who follow the program closely.

Where did that come from?

I'd say the "hype" was Jim Les (On his radio show last season) saying "offensively, AT is the second best big man I've ever coached." (POB was #1)

Although that statement may be more fact than hype

Brocks was wondering what hype Whelliston was talking about regarding Thompson.

I didn't read Whelliston's hype... but if he had some, I gave my thoughts on where it would be coming from.

;)

My mistake, Mob. I thought you were referring to the other KW.

On this current roster, isn't AT the highest rated recruit coming out of high school that came directly to BU (I thought he was 3 stars from one recruiting service)? I think the hype was tempered a bit on this board from his performance two years ago in a high school tournament the Peoria area.

To me, AT & WE seem to be the wildcard in factoring how the season is going to go.

Boogie I agree, if AT and WE can both play long stretches and we can get around 25 serviceable minutes a game between SS and DC at the 5 that will allow TW to play the 3 for long stretches of the game which we all know will be a mis-match for any team to cover. Also, that would allow AW to play the 2 much more! Talk about going big!

A.T., Will, David and Sam need to be a force inside as far as rebounding, defense, and scoring threats, I believe A.T. could be our next great shot blocker ; I also believe that our bigs will be the reason that BU. can have a good season or great season as our guards will be good.

From what I have heard from people that have seen AT play is he is very quick and can really get down the court in a hurry. Actually the comment was that AT & WE are both very quick and it is really fun to watch those two go from one end to the other. The only knock was that AT can still be pushed around under the basket but that can be offset by his quickness and jumping ability. Let's hope that part is true. I really think we will see a lot from both AT & WE this year.

Didn't Oden average less than 20/game. I think counting on any center to always play more than 20 (That did not play 20+ in the previous year) is setting yourself up for failure, especially when you know there will be foul issues..

Agreed. We need more from SS and DC. We have 4 good bigs with a another coming mid year. Theres no need to over play players, we should be able to rotate and still be productive and strong. This is SS 5th and last year, I totally believe he will and is willing leave it all on the court. Everyone has to come to play:!: :!:

I've said multiple times AT would've more than likely been our best inside player last year. To have him starting as a freshman after a year of strength and conditioning is a very good thing.
