Bradley announces new Personal Seat Option (PSO) plan for new arena

It it called an investment. Get them involved now for future revenue. Anyway if all we ever get is a 1,000 students per game how many more will head to a game on campus? There will be plenty of seats for the season ticket holders.

You know I agree with you here SFP.. ;-) Things are too corporate already!
With BU planning a men's game on campus, I wonder if we didn't plan very well with only a 4,000 seat arena?

I think the men's game at the new facility is an outrage if the current season ticket holders are not guaranteed the game.

Why do we pay these hefty "maintenance" fees and the cost of the tickets when we won't even get to see all of the home games? This stinks of a raw deal here.

You have to pay an insane PSO for volleyball and women's basketball prorgrams that the University has rarely cared about, just to have a chance at the men's tickets. That is horrible.

If this is the new A.D. at work, I am not hopeful for his career at BU.

I don't have any knowledge of the situation, but I would guess decisions like these come from and need the approval of more people than just the AD. As a season ticket holder, I think I should have the first right of refusal to attend and pay for this game.

It's an attempted money grab, no doubt. I can't say I am totally against it, but I think my biggest issue is that if it was ever a thought to have even one regular season game on campus, why didn't they make the arena a little bigger? Say, 6,000-7,000 at minimum? I know these plans have been in the works for a long time, and I know it was another regime that put them in motion. Regardless, if it was ever given an ounce of thought, the size of the arena should have been taken into consideration. As I said in another post, I know for a fact that the arena is as big as it can possibly be for that amount of land. But, had they thought that perhaps they wanted to have a home game or two on campus, they could have reduced the size of the parking deck and expanded the size of the arena to make this scenario a bit more realistic. Having home games in an arena nearly 1/3 the capacity of Carver is going to be a real, real tough sell.

I like it.

I understand why people are upset. But let's face a hard fact here: For a school like Bradley to continue to compete at the highest levels it must make money.

I for one have no problem paying for volleyball and women's hoops because I understand what this facility signifies for them. And they are placing a premium (but not unreasonable) price on them so that they aren't money losers for the University and a sign that they are committed to growing these programs.

Finally, I would expect there will be other events at the arena that campus has not seen in some time, that also will accompany your right to that seat for those events (concerts rock or otherwise ie Boston Pops or Trans-Siberian Orchestra, other tournaments, maybe an NBA or WNBA exhibition, Globetrotters).

Also, as Bradley Brave pointed out earlier in this thread, this is also in part about leverage and flexibility as much as anything else.

It's a 4500 seat arena. That's not that far off from some attendances at the CBI/CIT event early rounds at Carver.

The one thing I am curious about is if there is SRO capacity that might add room for an additional 500-1000.

Also, for the exhibitions that have been at the Fieldhouse I don't think the attendance has been much if above 4500. Without looking it up, I doubt the Carver crowds for exhibitions have been much greater either-but I couldn't get to last years so my memory may be hazy.

The point is that the 2500-3500 that went to the exhibitions at the Fieldhouse are still likely going to go to one at the new arena and won't have a problem paying.

Bradley's release yesterday states the capacity of the arena at 4,200-

Last year's single exhibition game at the Carver Arena listed attendance at 7,699, though actual attendance was less, probably around 5,000. It was part of the season-ticket package.-

How many season ticket holders were there last season?

I generally don't believe announced is actual attendance, which if that is about the number of season ticket holders that is likely what the announced attendance would be.

I also think the fact that there was one exhibition game as opposed to two may impact attendance as well.

Love the return of the Red-White game, love Midnight Madness.

I just really wish someone in the planning of the new arena had the foresight to make capacity in the 6k to 7k range.

Somebody once said "you don't build your church for just Christmas and Easter services" ....this "arena" was not built with the intention of using it for men's games. 4200 seats is plenty for women's Bball and Vball and that is what this new facility was built for.

You're right, 4200 is plenty for WBB and volleyball, the main tenants. I am not saying that we should have a Carver-sized arena on campus (although that would be my preference, but that is another topic). But while you don't build your church only for Christmas and Easter, you do have to think about how many people will be there those days. You don't want to be turning people away at the door.

IMO, as long as Bradley has more than 4200 season ticket holders, no regular season games or even tournament games should be played in the new arena. They moved to the Civic Center because they out grew the Fieldhouse and a first class arena was available. The one game against Illinois Wesleyn in the Fieldhouse after the move was enough.

I posted the last three postseasons' attendance at Carver Arena in another thread......

5,928.....2008-09.....CIT.....4 games

6,851.....2007-08.....CBI.....3 games

8,304.....2006-07.....NIT.....1 game

4,472.....Lowest

9,014.....Highest

6,571.....Average attendance

Only three of the last eight postseason games at Carver were under 6,100. I'm sure these numbers are closer to the actual attendance than regular season games, since they are not part of the season ticket package.

I wonder if they'll allow people to camp out for tickets, since there could be 4,000-5,000 people unable to get tickets that would normally go.

Good question. They did sell alcohol at the final red-white game at the Fieldhouse, and I do recall other Fieldhouse events getting alcohol exemptions. I could see it happening.

I don't recall any public events at the Fieldhouse that alcohol was sold. Are you sure? I might have missed it since I don't partake.
Beer and wine has been available at private functions, like Braves Club events, but were they also sold to the public at the Fieldhouse games?

They served beer when BU played in the Sweet 16. I was at the game in Oakland, but several of my friends and relatives went to the Fieldhouse to watch. Beer was served there. Also, as I alluded to earlier, it was served at the final Red-White game.
