Bradley basketball player arrested

When I saw the thread title, I thought this was referring to another one that I think slipped through the cracks recently.

ANY arrest, or just something serious, like battery.

I would think it would depend on whether it is a push or a slap versus black eyes and broken bones. Some people like to stretch the definition of assault. I'm not a lawyer but I have heard from some that there are advantages of pleading guilty when not actually guilty. This could include getting back on the court versus a lengthy delay in a trial and missing the entire season.

I used to be an Assistant State's Attorney, and I would say unless there was significant injury (i.e. broken bones or lacerations), many of these get dropped. If it doesn't get dropped its very possible that this gets knocked down to simple battery and she gets supervision. It is ultimately up to the State's Attorney, but often when there isn't a significant history the SA will defer to the victim.

What hasn't been mentioned among all the talk of 'wait and see what the facts are', broken bones vs no broken bones, hello?....she beat up her own teammate. It's not like she got into a tussle at a bar with a stranger. She beat up a teammate! Who wants to be on the court with someone who you can't trust? Let's also think about the other nine players who have to work with her. Teammates have a bond, and this one is broken.

I recall well, a time when Dick Versace had just come from a practice and he was beaming ear to ear over whet had just happened --
during a scrimmage at the practice two of the otherwise laid-back players kinda got into it, then started shoving and cussing, then broke into an all out slugfest that coaches had to break up...

Dick was ecstatic! He had never seen that kind of fight out of those team members and was happy to see something motivate them that much...
No he wasn't happy they were fighting each other, but YES he was happy they were showing some FIGHT...
that team went on to win the NIT and kicked butt.

I remember that well. Only difference is, that happened on the court. This happened in the victim's apartment.

Not Butts First Incident

Not Butts First Incident

Coach and the sports administration are to be commended and supported for the decision to dismiss Shronda Butts from the women's team. She has proven that her commitment is NOT to the team, her fellow players, or the university by her actions. This is not her first negative conduct incident that required disciplinary action.

Good post, I agree!

I hear Shronda Butts has left Bradley and transferred to another D1 school and will play for a coach she is very familiar with.
Good luck to Shronda.
