Bradley branding and mascot

The Brave Gargoyle! :D

BTW I want to take the survey. Where's the link?

I just received (via e-mail) and completed this survey. I am of the opinion that since the NCAA has screwed us from ever going back to Native American imagery that they have effectively killed off the use of "Braves" forever. Therefore, I feel that BU must make a change and I favor as little change as possible... To "BRAVE". I also think a mascot is critical to branding, building excitement amongst the fans, and vital to generating merchandise revenue. I feel the mascot should be unique, bold and exciting. Of the possible choices "GARGOYLE" achieves these things.

Therefore, I have chosen that we become the BRADLEY BRAVE... with a GARGOYLE as our mascot... Is that so wrong? :doubt:

I am about to complete the survey. I agree with you Braves4life, but would be comfortable with either the gargoyle or lion. Maybe we could have the gargoyle spit something on the opposing team during the introductions. lol

I think those were the choices they want people to pick.
IMO, the final decision has already been made. Book it. :)

It was a very "leading" survey. To a large degree I agree Da Coach. Unless the responses come back overwhelmingly negative it is a slam dunk -- Bradley Brave... Gargoyles.

I agree with you on both accounts.

Just took the survey...

All I have to say is that I hope we don't come out of this as a Lion or an Eagle.

Think about how many CAT or BIRD mascots are there in the MVC. Heck, think about how many there are in the state of Illinois for that matter.

MVC: Redbirds, Blue Jays, Panthers

IL: Northwestern, ISU, SIUE, Eastern, Chicago State, ICC and I'm sure there are others (those were the first to come to mind)

A bunch of cats and a handful of birds doesn't wow me for anything. But scores of Alumni are familiar with the gargoyles on campus.

Bird/cat = unoriginal, lame mascot

Given the wording of the survey, Brave is a foregone conclusion. And I'm okay with that.

In my opinion, Eagle gives Bradley the closest thing to native american imagery without actually being native american. (See Tommy Hawk of the Chicago Blackhawks)

Gargoyle would be okay. :?

Lion is just too Wizard of Oz. No sir, don't like it at all. :|

I should add that I think the importance of a mascot is being way over-blown.

How exactly does a mascot generate more fans? It's cute for the kids...but really?

You hit the nail on the head! Kids will one day become BU fans. Second merchandising can add a ton of revenue if done correctly.

BTW...winning is the only sure way to generate instant fans! Go Brave!

my kids (now grown) still ask whatever happened to the Bobcat & Tommy Hawk - believe it or not - they kinda liked them and their kid-friendly antics...

I still have fond memories of the Bradley Brave, especially when we were playing teams like Louisville where there were a few near mascot rumbles.

Though the Bradley "Brave" mascot will never again be officially affiliated with Bradley, memories of it will last a while. I have a few old shirts, sweatshirts, and athletic apparel that show variations of the Indian.

And though Chief Illiniwek was retired by the University of Illinois officially in February, 2007, the Indian chief is still around as alumni are keeping him alive.

An officially registered non-profit group named the Council of Chiefs, made up of former students who have portrayed Chief Illiniwek still selects one student each year who appears at athletic events in the crowd, but does not perform.

There are several organizations that are working to keep Chief Illiniwek's memory alive-
