Bradley hires new coach- Geno Ford

I think recruiting will be one of his strong points, but there is simply no way to project how that will go when a coach moves from one level to the next. It didn't work well for Greg McDermott at Iowa State or Todd Lickliter at Iowa, though they had proven to be excellent recruiters at the lower levels they came from.

I can understand why fans are concerned about this, and we'll have to wait a year or two to see how it goes.

Look at Kent State's last 3 recruiting classes......FILLED with higher rated recruits then we have gotten....

can you give a name or two because that is NOT what I am seeing...

Here are their last four recruiting classes...almost all of these guys are either unrated or at most, just 2-Stars,
and several flopped and aren't even there any more, and their current best stat guys are as much juco kids as HS recruits...

I think Geno has done fine with unheralded recruits.......

2008: Justin Greene, Frank Henry-Ala, Alex Grimsley
2009: Deshawn Clay, Rob Johnson, Greg Avila, Randal Holt
2010: Michael Greene, DeAndre Nealy, Eric Gaines, Kenny Knight
2011: Kris Brewer, Richard Smith

I think Geno Will do fine at recruting (BU>KSU), but I don't think one of these would compare to RA or even JP, SM, or DSE as far as 'stars' or 'rating'.

I think that we have learned in the past, that we can throw out the rating systems that are out there. (unless it is for a no brainer superstar player) To me, the most important aspect is that the new coach recognizes talent and once the player is here, can develop that talent.

When a player is not in rivals top 150....I tend to look at ESPN b/c most kids are given a number.

Bradley:

2011:

Remy Abell - 87
Donivine Stewart - 83
Nate Wells - 40 (N/A)

2010:

Andrew Davis - 87
Walter Lemon - 83

2009:

Prosser - 87
Eastman - 84
DSE - 80
MK - 78

Kent State:

2011:

Kris Brewer - 89
Chris Evans - juco n/a

2010:

Kenny Knight - 86
Eric Gaines - 85
Mark Henniger - 85
Darius Leonard - 85
Carlton Guyton - 84
2 N/A

2009:

Robert Johson - 86
Randal Holt - 85
3 N/A's

Obviously I am using ESPN....if you have other sites you think are more reliable....I like the espn numbers...although I agree that I disagree with them alot.

So my source is ESPN is the point lol

true....because i really don't think DSE was deserving of the 80 he got...obviously now he is on another level

Here are a couple Ohio bloggers about Geno Ford leaving Kent State to take the Bradley job- they sound a little bitter about Ford leaving-

Ford gave Kent State no notice before accepting job at Bradley

Geno Ford's departure a big loss for Kent State basketball
http://marla.ohio.com/2011/03/geno-fords-departure-a-big-loss-for-kent-state-basketball-2/

Both bloggers seem annoyed that Geno Ford never mentioned his time at Kent State in his speech at the Bradley press conference.

That's actually encouraging. If he can't get the best recruits (many which bomb anyway), he at least looks like a coach that will get the most out of who he has playing for him. This will be a good thing depending on who's coming back for us next year.

JD -- not one person has yet said he is a liar...
but we all know there are many ways to state something so it has more than one legit meaning...

So true! Non partisan examples:

"I am not a crook"

"I did not have ------ relations with that woman"

"Mission Accomplished"

"History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch. It is always preferable to have the informed consent of Congress prior to any military action???

;-);-);-);-);-)

I'm glad the board is back at a point where THESE kinds of posts are out there! :)

I don't necessarily place much weight (though it's fun to look at) on the ESPN ratings.... But those ratings are here for each of our 2011 top recruits...

Remy Abell:

Kris Brewer:

Edit-- got distracted while posting... Most of this is already up there.

Here's another article on how KSU was not given a chance to counter-offer:

Here are a couple Ohio bloggers about Geno Ford leaving Kent State to take the Bradley job- they sound a little bitter about Ford leaving-....

the one writer asks readers to respond with this...."Do you think Ford's departure lacked class? Tell us in the comments."

however, not one person has yet to leave a response...

Ihave to say that this whole side to the story definitely makes it sound like Ford might have been very anxious and maybe even happy to get out of town quickly!
I wonder if there's more to this story -- does he have an issue with Kent State Athletics Director Joel Nielson??

When I googled to see what I could find out about Coach Ford, the dissapointment from the Kent fan base about his leaving without speaking to administration about a counter or to his players was all I could find. As excited as I am about this hire, and hopeful for the BU hoops future, there are two things that nag at me:

1) Is there more to this, and is this a reflection of his character? Not casting stones, just wondering. One thing that seems universal is BU nation's respect for the character of both Coach Mo and Coach Les.

2) How little there was in the national media about this hire. Didn't Butler and VCU raise the spotlight on dare I say it "mid-majors"? I guess when we start winning, we'll get the attention.

I think not going back to them is a class move...he knew where he wanted to go and made the move...why go back and see what they offer, if you want to make the move...

I understand being upset about not talking to his players first, but after accepting the offer they are no long his players BU's roster is his players. JG promised his players they would be the first to know about the new coach, and talking first to his former players would jepardize that promise.

Fair enough, but I'm not really talking about negotiating, how about "hey, thanks guys for the opportunity, I'm moving on." Just simple courtesy. I think we'd feel different, if the shoe was on the other foot. Say, Coach Les had followed up the Sweet 16 year with another trip to the Big Dance, and then left for a Big Ten school and we heard about it at that school's announcement.
