Bradley hires new coach- Geno Ford

It's really a no win situation. if you talk to people at Kent then it leaks out. Bradley players who were promised they would be the first to know would instead hear the news from Twitter, Facebook, etc. The more I hear about him the more I like him.

Fair enough, but I'm not really talking about negotiating, how about "hey, thanks guys for the opportunity, I'm moving on." Just simple courtesy. I think we'd feel different, if the shoe was on the other foot. Say, Coach Les had followed up the Sweet 16 year with another trip to the Big Dance, and then left for a Big Ten school and we heard about it at that school's announcement.

I see how it seems a bit awkward. But it seems JG wanted the players to know first, so that may of been a condition of the offer.
I think in your scenario, JL becomes a more national name and the B10 school isn't as involved with its players.

I like him too, I just wonder if there is a proper etiquette and whether he followed it. Not trying to imply he's the guy who runs the Fiesta Bowl or anything :)

Bradley appears to be unwilling to meet the demands of the buyout in Ford??™s contract, and that could force KSU to take legal action.

The university could expect Ford to come up with the entire $1.2 million the university believes it is owed. The contract called for a dollar-for-dollar buyout, and Ford had three years remaining on a deal worth $300,000 annually.

If this is true, I have absolutely had enough of this administration. This once again makes us look Busch-league. This is standard operating procedure when coaches move up. How could this not have been taken care of ahead of time???? Ugh, I sometimes think I should just take the 'stick my head in the sand' approach of some.

I have heard that one possibility is that the salary offer to the new coach includes extra to compensate him for the payout that he is responsible for.

That's strange. I didn't think the contract was binding both ways. That is, if the employee chose to move on to a new job, then the employee just doesn't get the money anymore. Why make the employee pay the employer if he's not working there anymore? The employer can then just use the funds it saved with the dissolved contract by hiring a new guy.

Yeah I never quite understood that either. Could someone explain why if the coach wants to leave the contract isn't just voided?

There are a number of coaches that have buyouts on their side of the contract. Some coaches will trade that for a longer contract term (security) or for a higher salary.

A lot of schools/companies do this so the risk of leaving early via jumping ship or firing is a shared risk, not one-sided.

I guess we should let the situation play out, unless someone knows all of the terms of Geno's contract with KSU and with BU.

Some have jumped to conclusions before, lets not do it again.

Fun to read the KSU site, seems every school has fans who are quick to "hate" coaches - current or former, or even Presidents/Athletic Directors....

If BU used a big time coachnig search agency, and has as many talented people on their staff/consultants in legal matters, I am sure they knew exactly what is required, by whom, when, and how it should play out.

They got us a Ford vs a Yugo didn't they?

Nice. Really like it. Im excited.

Except my phone keeps autocorrecting geno to genocide.

This is pretty dang funny! It looks like we saw the signs early on! haha!!!

It's interesting to look at this post and recall memories from this time??¦ For the record, I want Bradley to succeed with GF. However, time is running short and the noose should be getting pretty tight about now??¦no pressure, no diamonds they say??¦ A few calculated and/or lucky pickups before next year can change the course of history. I can hope, right?
