Broadcast Point Number 2

srw

New member
BU has a broadcasting major/minor.

We have at least one, if not multiple skilled graduates who could fill the broadcast role.

Why not Bring Les Shapiro back to do color.

?

The play-by-play guy hasn't been hired yet.
The color guy is already in place.

BTW, who is Les Shapiro?

The PBP has been hired..just not announced...Mr. Bussone

Les Shapiro did the WEEK broadcasts with him in the early 80's when we were good.

Who are you saying is 100 years old?

I think the inside rumor is that Frank Bussone will be the TV PxP guy.

I don't understand the hiring of Ed Hammond and Coach Stowell for the women's radio. You have the new Sports Comm major on campus. Why not use a couple of the best students for that job? Get them experience. Save some money. Build that part of your educational dept?

Instead we could be letting one alum potentially get away to UIC which will officially make it BU North Campus. Although PBP might still be an option.

Sorry for the exaggeration

My source is pretty close to the situation, and this is not true, yet, though I expect it will happen very soon. :).

Les Shapiro- isn't he working in Denver? If you are serious with this suggestion, it would cost thousands of bucks to bring him in for each game. That's probably more than the total cost of the entire crew. Just for a color guy?

The team that will be announced will do a good job, and fans will be happy with them. One thing most fans probably don't realize is that these broadcasts done by the local stations pay extremely little for their on-air talent, compared with network sports broadcasts, and WTVP probably pays less than any local station. We are lucky we aren't getting students or interns doing the play-by-play, instead of someone who is one of the most experienced sports broadcasters in Illinois and who is widely recognized and has received numerous awards for his talents, in addition to being a loyal Bradley alum and one of the most well-prepared and knowledgeable guys about BU basketball and it's history.

Oh, if we could only have a student making comments like the "Boom goes the dynamite".... yea, that would be awesome!

So it must not be Kurt P- because he is an ISU grad... Hmmmm

And while I was once a struggling broadcast student at BU- the TV or radio side for that matter- is not a place for the students to be your on-air talent, IMO.

I know I was much better prepared a year or two out of school than I was in school- it really isn't a good option to learn on the job. I would however, like the University to allow a student radio or internet pbp team be developed for on-campus/online purposes.

A great idea, and they have done that for the non-profit sports a great deal. (And your comment about quality/preparedness of those students is true!) But now that they have the sports comm academic program, they should give them simulated real world experience in men's BB.

You are correct. You get what you pay for. It isn't a lucrative deal. As a result, Bradley gets who they get.

Re: students, interns--I'm not in favor of them doing men's TV games--but I see no issue with them doing women's games on the radio.

Kurt Pegler is very professional and fair -- I would have no problem at all with the fine job he does...

Well, I do have a problem with Pegs (and Lee Hall).... that's why I have always just listened to Snell in the past (muting the tv or not watching at all) and will continue to listen to Snell in the future.

Having worked with Pegs, I agree- he is professional- I was just responding to the read between the lines statement that it would be a respected person, Bradley Grad, who would be doing games...

Kurt is not a BU grad- hence my comment it may not be him... that's all!

I was not serious about Les Shapiro....God help us

I am trying to get us out of

THE 1980's

One Pres Reagan passed away I had to move on.

I think Frank Bussone is 20 years past his audience in his description of the game.

His choice, and as someone just told me...

Get over it srw, the job doesnt pay anything anyway.

Still think Frank was the best PA man Bradley had.
