BU 48 - MSU 51 Final

By the way, we now have a losing record at home (5-6) for the season (something you won't find mentioned in the PJS). Bradley has not had a losing record at home since 2001-2002, which was ironically Jim Molinari's last season. And, that year (2001-2002) was the only losing record Bradley has had at home in the past 20+ years.

I think the PJStar publishes the Bradley schedule about once a week. It usually shows results for all their games.

I think this season shows you how far down the program has/had fallen. I hope Coach Ford and these guys can help bring us back to respectability.

Again, it is all in one's perspective.
Prior to last year, in which the year-long injury/illness issues, which were out of JL's control, lead to a losing season, this program had 5 winning seasons in a row with over 100 wins. It could be a long time before we see that kind of success again.
If the program is farther down now, the blame belongs with those who demanded and engineered such radical changes without anticipating the obvious fallout, and not with a program that was a winning program.

I think I got blasted by some on this board for my prediction that Bradley would go 1-9 starting with the Michigan game...... Wish there was a bet in Las Vegas for that!!

Making sure everybody understands - I did not want that to happen. I predicted it based on this coaching staff not playing a style of ball fit for these players. Team basketball wins over 5 players "getting me points" philosophy!

T and Da Coach. We're finally getting positive coverage. Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth. I understand why the 2 of you are just a little miffed at the way the Journal Star, especially KW, have covered the Braves this year. Maybe the Journal and KW are just not used to having a coach who either gets along with them or just doesn't mind talking to them. No question KW's reactions would have been different if JL was still the coach. I don't know. Maybe I'm trying to be Sweet Mary Sunshine in a Pollyanna kinda of way here because I see some of the same signs that KW does. But I'm also realistic to know as long as don't have any pure shooters or better inside play we will continue to struggle.

I haven't read today's PJS. I quit paying for that rag a long time ago so I will only glance at the PJS when I see it for free.

That being said, I thought from an execution standpoint on offense, last night was one of our best efforts of the year. I posted as much last night. If this was in today's PJS, then I would have to agree with them. This is an incomplete team so it is IMHO possible to execute offensive sets and not get a winning result. That is IMHO what we saw last night. Geno doesn't like it, but we play better when we slow things down. Yes shot selection is an issue, but our shot selection is much better than the beginning of the year. As for Jake's three at the end of the game, I would like to hear the response from Geno rather than hearing it from Bussone. IMHO, as an announcer, Bussone was good in the 1980's no so much now.

I think your comment about Bussone being an announcer was meant for me, but I've never commented on his announcing just that he was IMO the best at giving the starting lineups.

You are right, it is a matter of perspective.

Jim was 8 games over .500 in conference in those 5 years. That's not great to me. It's average, at best.

I still do not understand what fallout we are seeing. I see a new direction for a program. You have a good coaching staff and quality young men playing for Bradley.

I expect good things for the future!

You were right about wins, but some of these so called players from the previous staff have a lot to do with these results.

Well the good news is that if this was more of the same as last year, we'd still have about 10 days to go before the first conference win! So things are looking up!

Nice to see a largely positive thread turned negative by a couple. "Show me how our tone is any different than it ever was." "Show me one time I have ever said anything negative about the coaching."

To the point, I do think there are some positives from this game. The defense was much improved and the game would have been won easily if more open shots had dropped. But thats just one mans wrong opinion.

Only seen 1 poster saying your opinion is wrong.

Yeah, but unfortunately we were this close to getting our second conference win yesterday, but didn't finish the job. So things aren't looking as far up as I would like them to be. :)

I saw a few good things from last night's game when we played like a team. I'm going out there to say if this team had a true PG we would have won at least 3 more games if not be around .500 in league play. I also thought we do not go inside enough to JP. There were a few times which one of our guards were driving in and with a flick of a wrist they could have hit JP with a pass wide open.

Not at all. Just a general observation. I had no idea about your thoughts on Bussone and didn't remember your remark about him announcing the starting lineups until I read your post.

It's all good Chico. :)

No problem. I've commented several times how good his introductions were in the Fieldhouse.

Nobody criticized the players last year. It was all coaching. Now suddenly, the players cannot play.

This is just flat out not true. Plenty of people last year and the last several years have pointed out the deficiencies of some of our players. People last year talked about Walt being out of control. People last year talked about Jake not shooting well. People the last several years have talked about our bad free throw shooting and missing too many easy shots/lay ups. I could go on and on.

The point is its NEVER just coaching or just players that cause teams to be bad. Its ALWAYS a combination. Thats the case not just this year, not just the previous nine years, but since the beginning of sport.

ok..... For the most part, I try to stay out of the new coach vs old coach fracas.... I have seen a lot of comments that state we have a new direction for the program or we finally have a plan for the program. My question is, what is the new direction for the program and or what is the new plan for the program?

So far, my perspective on this is that we replaced a middle-of-the road coach in JL and overpaid for another middle-of- the road coach in Geno.
Yeah I know we need to see what type of players Geno brings in, and I got really tired of seeing the vaunted three guard (sometime 4 guards and even a fifth guard last year) JL offense.

Sorry JD not meaning to pick on you... Just a legitimate question I have.:)

So you already know that Geno is a "middle of the road" coach based on 3/4 of 1 year?

I honestly don't think we can make any judgements on how Geno will be...not until he gets 2 years of his own guys.
