BU at a Crossroads

Lacrosse would be a HUGE pickup for the university IMO.

So would a real hockey program.

If we can't have football, let's add some of these sports.

I know, I know...much easier said than done. I don't know the numbers but I am guessing BU athletics is more likely to drop sports than add them.

I would not mind adding Lacrosse either. But not at the expense or dilution of Men's Basketball. jmho

Do others fully believe this team will win 20+ and go 13-5 in conference next season? I am just not seeing that...not one bit...even in our best complete season under Les we finished 5th in conference...and have never finished higher than 4th...

So what is it in the track record that makes anyone believe that he will do remarkably better next season, especially given that Sammy will be coming off two surgeries and Taylor may or may not even be back and we lose Andrew...

How is it possible to even remotely assume better days?

Each of the past 3 seasons, my predictions have come well short of the final record. Give the injury excuse if you want, but a team should have AT LEAST 7 other guys to do their part in picking up the slack and getting wins with 1 key guy injured. The development of project guys has been awful, and our post-game is inefficient since POB. Without AW 2 seasons ago - without DD a year ago, we should have won close to 20 games before post-season play. I was not too upset with last season's 16-15 record like many of you were. Looking back, though, with DD, would we have contended? With AW 2 seasons ago, would we have contended?

This year, knowing that 2 of our best guys are out, that changes things - I know. But I expect BU to finish close to .500 in league play in a weak Valley. That ain't gonna' happen the way we're going.

I agree with StL-Brave - the track record speaks volumes to me. And think about the seasons that followed these guys' injuries - not their best (unless Dodie starts playing a LOT better)
Why will be that much better next season if our "supporting cast" can't even beat the lower half Valley teams in a sputtering Valley? AW will be gone, our incoming freshman are being counted on to make big contributions - that's not a good sign. NEXT year though, AT will be a beast, and MK will have a JC-like junior season, making half of his treys!

On hockey, there may also be a unique opportunity because there is the possibility the Big Ten begins its sponsorship of the sport in the coming years.

My point here was saying that they don't get that Bradley Basketball is their cash cow and they want to divert to other sports...

That's what I was getting at.

Have you ever sat down with JG? She knows as well as anyone what the basketball program brings and I would be completely shocked if she has drummed a plan to ruin our basketball tradition and ambition.

With basketball revenue taking a hit how or why in the world would anyone want to add sports that lose money, who in the heck is going to pay money to watch hockey or Lacrosse, hockey people go see the Rivermen and Lacrosse might draw 50 people, how about the University straighten out the main NO.1 revenue maker, Mens Basketball.

real fan sometimes here is a real cost for branding and IF BU develops these other programs it all will have to do with a certain image that the Admin wants to develop. I do not believe that anyone wants to take any resources from the basketball program which may effect that product. The b-ball program is what would make and makes any other program viable.

A very fair post! I am not a fan of JG, but I would also be surprised if she were to dilute the Men's Basketball program to a lower level at the expense of non-revenue producing sports.

When you think about it, the only time we have ever been "good" (in the modern era) is when we had players that wildly over-achieved and ended up in the NBA. JJ, Les, Hawk, Parker.

I'd love to see that happen every year, but the truth is, it historically is the exception more than the rule. I'm not sure it is fair to any coach to want them fired because they haven't done what has never been done before(win consistently at BU). Am I concerned with the way things are going? Yes. Has Les done any worse than any other recent BU coach? You could argue that he hasn't. Depending on which stats you choose you could either paint him as a horrific coach or a great one.

Right now, everyone is wounded, from the players to the staff to the fans. I sincerely hope the team does some things over the course of the season that make us feel good, rather than sick. That can start tomorrow.

Very true.....MANY BU fans have what I often call a case of "Notre Dame Football fan itis".

Many have a very over inflated view of what they THINK the program is now based on the glory years of long long ago when the reality of what they really are in the modern era is very diminished in comparison......

I understand but there are other schools with similar demographics that have found a system where there has been consistent success. That is what I'm hoping for and I bet the majority of the fan base. I do not believe there is one fan here that believes we have the infrasructure to be a Duke/KS/NC/KY type team but an Xavier/Butler/Gonzaga YES!

I agree and I'm NOT suggesting we CAN'T be all that and a bag of chips BUT we haven't been even close to that for a long time.

I don't know of any Bradley fan who thinks that way. There are many teams who were once powers in college basketball who fall into the same category as the Braves. It's still possible for ND to return to where they used to be.

I agree. I think Bradley fans are as realistic as any fans. They just love and support their team. That used to be called being a good fan, but now there are a few disgruntled people who want to try to dump on those fans and say they aren't "realistic", or even blame them for their dissatisfaction.

It's ok to be a JL supporter and to advocate stay the course...post away why

It's ok to be interested in a new coach and advocate change...post away why

Just don't belittle/challenge others opinions in order to get them to agree with your opinions...

Sometimes this seems to be a debating site, with the sole purpose of "winning" a difference of opinion between FANS....

If you believe facts presented are incorrect, offer correct facts.

Its late, but wake up

It might be coincidence, but Butler went from a team making NCAA tournaments to a team that expects yearly Sweet 16s when they got a new AD who eliminated money-losing programs, notably lacrosse. Butler lacrosse was in the top 25 not that long before the cut too.
