Has anyone heard about this College Basketball Invitational? Just wondering about Bradley and the postseason. It was mentioned in the PJStar.

I believe Comcast in central Illinois has this channel on their sports tier. Plus, I have seen some of these games on channelsurfing.net. Hopefully, if BU makes it, we get a televised game....

IMO, I don't think BU gets invited. Had we won 1 game in St Louis, we'd be in a lot better shape to be considered. It all depends. There is a lot of basketball to be played this week.

There is the squeeze on the NCAA bubble (like San Diego winning the WCC Tourney). There is the squeeze on the NIT bubble (like Robert Morris losing in the Northeast Conference Tourney - Conference winners that don't get NCAA at-large bids are guaranteed NIT bids). So this all squeezes the CBI. And then it depends on whether some teams turn down bids to either the NIT (in favor of the CBI) or the CBI (which may invite a team with a losing record and maybe that team doesn't want to play any postseason, which I doubt will happen).

So the question is.... who will be the 1st team left out? Who will be #114?

Right now, I think Bradley is about 5 spots behind #113 in the pecking order. But things still have to play out. You never know what may happen.... but don't sit around expecting a bid.

Couple things,

Do we get to keep practicing until the decision for this tournament is made?

If we are invited, does JL give any minutes to Salley? Not to single him out, but if we do play he will play JC and Ruffin for certain, but Salley sucks up minutes that can be given to someone who likely will be counted on next season.

I do not believe we will be invited nor do I really believe that we even deserve an invitation but if we can play more games that can only be a positive thing for the program.

You may continue practicing through Selection Sunday and beyond if you are participating in any of the postseason events.

I know BU administrators would rather the season be over so as to not further delay the tearing down of the Fieldhouse. The longer the men's season goes--the further back demolition and construction gets pushed back.

That said, the CBI will be solely about money, and financially BU may be too good for them to pass up, and vice versa.

I've been told by someone who's seen it that the contract for the CBI states schools get 60% of their gate and the remaining 40% goes to the organizers.

That said, while I would like to see BU participate, I only want them to go with home games for the first two rounds. I only want them to participate if they have a favorable situation to win the thing.

I do not believe Bradley will have the option of asking who are the other teams in the CBI, or whether they would be given a home game.

If they get a call Sunday night they will have the choice of saying yes or no. From there, the CBI will determine who they play and whether they get a home game (BU has already submitted available dates). I am sure they will say yes, if invited.

The home games are at Carver, are they not? So why would we want to go with home games for the first two rounds only, if we are lucky enough to get the better seed? If the Admin. does not want us practicing at Roberston, we can find another place. I hope we get in this tournament, it would be beter than most preseason tournaments and if we ran it, it would be a big boost going into next year. What I understand is the final two play a 2 out of 3 series, if Bradley were to have the higher seed at that time it's possible that we could have 2 more home games at Carver. I hope we get in:)

BU said in the paper that they have a conflict with the Peoria Civic Center in scheduling a potential 3rd round home game.

You make a good point, but....

Going into the season, I think everyone budgeted their time around the men's team likely being in the postseason. So sure, they would like to get started earlier than later... but I don't think they knew they could start earlier and then darn it... the men's team is holding us up.

Btw, the women's MVCT starts Thursday.... not exactly sure when they leave/left for St Louis, but they needed someplace to practice too. And although very unlikely, they could win the MVCT and need a place to practice til the NCAA Tourney as well.

;)

They have several timelines they are working with. In January, they were moving forward with the timeline that assumed no postseason. However, in February they had to slow down.

If Bradley had made the NCAA Tournament, no one would care that the demolition of the fieldhouse would be delayed.

I for one though still think any postseason is better than nothing, and will only help our returning players next year.

Here is just a rough list of bubble teams. 18 are going to the NCAA. 32 will wind up in the NIT leaving 16 more for the CBI. If just going down the list in RPI order, BU makes the cut. But then again, there are about 6-7 teams on this list that will get an NIT auto bid if they lose their conf tourney.

Anyway, listed by yesterday's RPI, then team, then Conference record followed by overall record.

Doesn't the women's tourney take place in Des Moines?

It used to rotate amongst willing league members hosting. It had been held at Drake, MSU, and ISU over the years.

However, this season it moved to a neutral site at St. Charles, MO for the first time.

I may be changing my mind on wanting to play in the postseason. If BU could get a shot at either Maryland or Syracuse (or a team of the like), I would want to play. Seeing Syracuse get waxed by 20 to open the Big East Tournament just rekindled my desire to see BU beat one of these coaching 'elitists'. I realize that Syracuse is likely heading to the NIT and BU will be lucky to sniff the CBI (all the more reason I was p-ssed off after the 1st CU loss), but one can hope can't they?

I have neve liked the 'cuse either. It seems as if evey year, the orange play at least 20 games either at home or in the state of New York.

The more and more I think about it, it's going to be a disgrace if we don't get into the CBI. If we get any type of injury credit at all (missing at least one starting guard for over half the conference season), we should be a lock. However, losing 3 straight to end the year doesn't help one bit. I hope BU is pleading their case to the CBI, even if the administration wants to end this thing so the Fieldhouse can come down. There are several games on TV, and I would love to have at least one of them coming from Carver Arena. The brackets are going to be regional so there's a chance we would get to play a team that's relatively close. Let's play until April!

"The 16-team field will consist of teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament. Teams will be invited based upon their performance during their conference and non-conference schedule, as well as how well the team is playing at the end of the regular season."

if they put alot of weight into how well each team is playing at the end of the season then i do have my worries...

Well, we have to hope that they put some weight on us playing without Daniel Ruffin's 14 ppg/6 apg and Andrew Warren's 13 ppg for most of our 2nd half schedule. If they can point out our record when our team was whole (I believe it was 13-6), and assure the CBI that Warren will be playing, then talk about our recent success (Sweet 16, NIT), it will give the tournament a little bit of mid-major 'name' recognition. If BU truly wants to keep playing (the administration), then I am sure Bobby Parker is breaking out all of the numbers in our favor.

In terms of potential opponents, there are a number that I see as 'regional' possibilities. Nebraska, Missouri, Valpo, Wright St, IUPUI, Akron, Minnesota, and Western Michigan all look like potential opponents. I think we would outdraw most of them.

I know the CBI said that they wouldn't eliminate teams with a losing record, but I think the tournament would lose all credibility if it included them. There are just too many teams with winning records to do otherwise.
