Chris Reynolds named new Bradley AD

No matter who we hire as a head coach - there might still be an occasional "recruiting miss" (even Duke has them!), but what we need is more hits than misses - something we have not seen on the Hilltop for 4 years.
I know Reynolds won't be recruiting but his presence and his connections will definitely help...and if Nate Taphorn or Max Bielfeldt choose to look elsewhere, his Big Ten connections could help Bradley

Also - I wonder what percentage of the PJStar staff - 50%, 60%, 75% - are working 24/7 digging thru arrest records in every county of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan - looking for a speeding ticket or jaywalking on Chris Reynolds?

One more thing - here's a name we might hear some more...
AJ Guyton has said he'd like to be considered for any coaching vacancy and the guy has coached - even at the professional level...earning "Coach of the Year two consecutive seasons" (hmmm)
And both AJ & Chris Reynolds are strongly connected to another HOF coach - could we bring him out of retirement (he's 74 years old) the same way SMU did with Larry Brown (who is also 74 years years old but a little older than the other guy)? ;)

I would love to be there but can't since I just got my knee replaced and sill not mobile enough to try some thing like that.

The next 2 weeks to 2 months will be real interesting for the future of BU

Our local paper, the Journal Star, could not even investigate our local representative, Aaron Schock. The AP had to send reporters to look at Aaron's rise to wealth on a congressman's salary.

not a BU fan alive that doesn't feel better today about Bradley's future....
I am hearing from some that are 1000 miles away calling or e mailing to say they are thrilled with this news...

I support this as a great hire.
1. The testimonials given by those that have worked with Chris paint the picture that he is a man of integrity, which is huge. He is also a man who knows how to win. Further, he is a baller.
2. His cross-section of experience is impressive, all the way down to the fact that he briefly worked for the NCAA. The ability to win AND stay compliant is exactly what my dream would be as a fan of Bradley basketball.
3. I actually like that he was placed in before the new president. Not only will the timing be perfect for assessing coaching options, but he will already be established as a leader before the president comes in, and should therefore be allotted more autonomy going forward to lead the way he sees fit. This is a man who does not need to be micromanaged, and all indications are that Chris is a high-level leader. He will make sure there is a leadership structure under him as well (including on the playing floor!)
4. We should all extend our trust in his choice of head coach, regardless of who it is. I trust that he will put a team in place that will get on the road to winning, and maintaining integrity. If either of these two fail, he will know when to make the appropriate moves.

Warm welcome to our new AD.

Chris Reynolds hire

Chris Reynolds hire

Very happy to hear we have a local guy coming in that knows how much BU means to Peoria. Chris' local connections and knowledge of our town make him a great hire. I hope that our new men's bb coach is also a local guy, who our local talent will want to stay home to play for. Love several of the names I have heard as potential new coaches, but like the idea of JH coming home. His ability to recruit would be a key to turning this around. Great news for BU and for fans of BU!

This is Chris Reynolds' home, his community...loads of friends & family are here and he will undoubtedly view this position as his dream job with an incredibly high motivation to succeed -
He knows the history of Bradley basketball - his own high school coaches were part of that history - so he won't blow off Bradley's great history & legacy as "nostalgia" that the fans need to get over & not get so hung up on...and he won't write off the upper bowl fans as worthless...
In fact I bet he'll greet every fan with a friendly smile, handshake and a chat ... it's how he operates and it's why to this day he's incredibly well loved & respected by his IU fans - they have several threads going about him and are happy for him & his success in this business so far.

I'll bet he's probably even been to Bradley games in years past and he knows the importance of our history 1st hand -
and I suspect he's even been to a few Bradley events and remembers them well ... and likely would be open to their reinstatement...

It is great to hear from all the posters here, and the many others I have talked to since last night. Without any hesitation, 100% of the people here and elsewhere that I have communicated with are happy and satisfied with this pick.
I will also predict that tomorrow, when Chris Reynolds is presented publicly, Bradley fans are going to love what he says. He is a no excuses, get-the-job-done sort of guy. We'll see his great personality, and I predict every fan will love him. He will also honor the past traditions of Bradley. He'll respect and appreciate the loyal fans, and not try to saddle the fans with blame for their "impatience" and "nostalgia" and blame fans for holding the administration back. Nor will he try to take credit for things he had nothing to do with or celebrate inane things like mascot creation, and he won't be satisfied with change simply for the sake of change. Most of all, he is a winner, and will be driven to produce winners at Bradley, not just expect adulation for trying.
It will be a refreshing change from what we've had.

... He confirmed that this hiring indeed was made official quite some time ago...

and from evidence we have - I also agree this to be the case, but...
then why was this position advertised nationally just over the past few weeks?
http://www.nacwaa.org/career-center/job-listings/3073

but...what I also find interesting to go along with this job pasting...
is that the position does not appear to have been posted in many of the other usual places...

Several of the most widely used & viewed places - the job was not listed

http://www.nacda.com/nacdajobs/nacda-nacdajobs-athleticsdirector.html

It doesn't make any difference though if it was posted or not in certain places. Seems like Reynolds was the choice and it seems like everyone from the BOT to all the fans are on board with it.......moving forward....

... he won't write off the upper bowl fans as worthless......

just an interesting sidenote...
the guy who is the current AD at Indiana said something similar to this that angered a lot of Hoosier fans...

He said something to the effect that the $100 donors gripe the loudest - or the most...
more than the big-money donors... - apparently implying that the only people who have a right to gripe if IU loses are the $100K donors and everyone else should shut up...
Now maybe that's not what he meant but...it doesn't matter - that's how the comment came over - LINK - and it caused a backlash people who keep citing the comment as insulting to fans

his comment however came over a lot like the comment about how the university doesn't make any money on the upper bowl ticket-buyers - hinting that it don't matter if they come or go..
I think CR's links to Peoria mean he will truly respect the fan base we have for Bradley.

(Not likely to get Indiana on our schedule)

I attended an "Evening with Bobby Knight" in Peoria the year Chris Reynolds graduated from IU--it was sponsored by my investment broker-and Knight gushed with so many positive comments about Chris Reynolds the person and what a fine young man he was--so it was pretty evident to me then--that Chris had a very bright future. I am thrilled with this selection as our AD--and will be more thrilled when he hopefully announces this week that he will hire a new BB coach ASAP:!:

I would not want Dane Fife. I am sure he is a hard worker, since Izzo would accept nothing less. But he was not successful when he did get a head coaching job at IPFW. And although it is hard to win there and maybe he did as well as could be done, what irked the IPFW fans was that he quit on them to go back to the security of being an assistant again. Plus, some people who have worked with him in the past have less-than-flattering opinions of him.

Another article by Dave Reynolds-
http://www.pjstar.com/article/20150317/SPORTS/150319195/12701/SPORTS

A few interesting points-
Last month, Bradley Board of Trustees chairman Doug Stewart estimated the search for a new director of athletics at BU would take four to eight weeks. Just 25 days later, the search committee has found its man in Chris Reynolds.

Reynolds, the Northwestern deputy athletic director who accepted the position at BU late Sunday

A six-person search committee...sifted through more than 60 applicants...Parker Executive Search...narrowed to 10...was then cut down to three...

That scenario differs a little bit from some other reports I have heard. Some sources say this choice has been a fait accompli for almost couple months. Either way, congratualtions to Chris Reynolds, and to those involved in the selection.

Sure the new AD would want to see who the fans don't want.

Ok ok.....you guys have inside sources. Good for you. I couldn't give 2 &$its about who reported what first or any pissing contests between boards.

Lets unify and get frickin' excited!!!!! Onward and forward. For the first time in a long long long time there's a reason to believe!!! So glad the action took place in time to have a legit chance and getting a coaching staff in here to begin the process of restoring the order.

Go BU!!!!!!!!!

I agree you with. Lets look forward to better basketball.
