Coaching carousel begins

I think McCaffery will be good for Iowa. But I hope they are more patient than they were with Lickliter. It will take some time.

And in case anyone noticed, a number of rumor laden posts have been removed. We do not support or allow unfounded rumors regarding the Bradley players or coaches. So please do not post them here again, or refer to them. That will be removed also.
And if anyone cares- the rumors were false, anyway.

Donnie Jones, who was the coach at Marshall, must like the warmer weather in Florida. He resigned the job at Marshall and will take the University of Central Florida job. Both schools are in the Conference USA, Marshall finished tied for 3rd, and UCF finished 9th.

One consideration for Jones is that there are rumors that UCF could soon be leaving the CUSA and joining the Big East.

Here is a list summarizing the coaching changes so far-

Hmm...wonder if Jones' talented freshman Hassan Whiteside will stay at Marshall...
Whiteside is a freshman who had multiple triple doubles this season...although early on he wasn't even a starter....
a talented 7-footer whose numbers were actually better than POB's...
13.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 179 blocks!! (5.5 per game!) and even 60% on 3-pointers (although he didn't take many)

If Whiteside becomes available, I know some people who'd take the kid....

Hmmmm. I'm left wondering if DC's signature (Patiently waiting for the aircraft carrier) and this have any hidden meaning. ????????? :)

It's not referring to Whiteside, or any transfer. I doubt the primary desire of the coaches is for a transfer, since they would have to sit out a year.

Another coach fired- news just breaking this morning is that Boston College has fired head coach Al Skinner.

There is nothing official, but BC has scheduled a news conference for this afternoon.

That's strange, St. John's was trying to grab Skinner just a couple days ago..
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/college/basketball/view.bg?articleid=1242676&srvc=rss

wonder if he went back to Boston College, asked them to pony up or he was leaving, then they didn't like being played for fools and told him to take a hike??

Didn't BC just recently take some heat for doing the exact same thing to their football coach?

Maybe they told Al that if he interviewed at SJ they'd fire him too...

Sad state of affairs up there...

Hmm. The Oregon domino is an interesting one. I have a theory that Lavin is going to leverage St. John's to go to Oregon, where he's a better fit. Of course, that is dependent on whether Tubby takes it or not. Hiring through the media is always interesting. Al Skinner seems like a better fit at St. John's than Steve Lavin IMO.

Actually Andy Katz reported earlier in the morning that he believes Lav will be named the new St. John's head coach later this afternoon...

Now the Tubby thing is interesting because the furthest west he has coached was Tulsa and he doesn't have much of a Northwest or West Coast recruiting base....

Would be interesting to say the least, but obviously the facilities and Nike money are a certain ++

Louisiana-Lafayette names Bob Marlin as head coach

This is an excellent hire. Marlin took his name out of the U of Houston job and turned down an interview at UTEP to take this job.

Ton of talent at U of L. Decent place but to not atleast see what UTEP had to offer seems a little odd to me.
