Cubs Make Multiple Roster Changes

Guys I'm would be sure he is also not getting paid for those 6 days! That is what really hurts more then the suspension. If baseball wanted to get serious about this type of outburst they would fine them a set amount. Forget about the suspension, there are a few guys who would love not to suit up for a few games during the season. Make them work without pay, that would even be better.

Also slugging a Gatorade bucket or what not should be no real big deal compared to what others in our society do when they are pissed off at work. I wish there was a Gatorade bucket at every office where someone may just go Postal! Letting off a bit of steam on an animated object is much, let's say way better, then coming home drunk and beating your wife and kids. :lol: So on the scheme of things Big Zs behavior, I do not condone it, is in reality harmless. Who did he hurt except his image and pocketbook a bit!

Granted hitting a gatorade bucket didn't hurt anything, I don't think the bucket has feelings, but someday that temper is going to get him in big trouble. He could have been in big trouble when he twice threw at Jim E's head a few years back.

Well the Jim E incident is a different situation and one thing I like about the National League is that Big Z has to stand in the batters box! Trying to hurt someone intentionally should be handled in the strictest means possible. IMO baseball needs to suspend players for months when that type of behavior takes place and if it happens again we are talking banishment for life. There is no room for this in any sport and even hockey takes a tough stand on this.

I wouldn't want players that do this to simply write a check and keep playing as if nothing happened. That doesn't hurt the team at all and it really doesn't hurt the millionaire too much either! To say Big Z's behavior is harmless is not seeing the big picture. I guess it would be "harmless" if everytime a player didn't get the call they wanted or thought the umpire got a call wrong, that player has the ok to throw the baseball into the outfield, throw their glove into the ground, and take a baseball bat to whatever they see fit in the dugout? That would get a little old if it happened everytime. I say make the player sit down for a very long time (not one game!) and fine them very heavily (much more than 3.7%).

I'm just glad he's the exception and not the rule! I truly don't know how anyone can possibly defend his actions.

I'm not defending his behavior as much as saying let's not carried away! If you read my response I said I do not condone it. There are other areas of the game that need attention before we start singling out guys who show a bit of emotion but did not hurt anyone. How does his fine help the average fan? What I'd like to see happen is that his fine be given back to the fans one way or the other. The price of tickets are starting to price out the average fan. That to me is something to get mad about. I'm just not into knee jerk reactions. As I said when a player intentionally hurts someone then there needs to be some heavy handed suspension. Otherwise what's the point!

That's my point. The Jim E incident is not a different situation. He threw at a batter twice in the same game. He should have been done for the season. IMO after throwing at a batter intentionally one time you should be gone, especially when it's as obvious as back then. With his childish tantrums he is going to hurt someone. Even takes cheap shots at his own teammates in the dugout. Next time it might not be a gatorade cooler.

I realize you're not defending his behavior, but you did say it was harmless. I guess it is (for now), but as I said, what happens if/when other players around the league decide to throw the baseball into the outfield, throw their glove into the dirt, and start beating on something in the dugout with a bat whenever they don't agree with the call that was made on the field? Baseball did not send a very strong message and apparently they believe this behavior is ok as well.

They should have suspended him much longer and handed him a very heavy fine for his childish behavior simply because he didn't agree with a call, which was the correct call to begin with. I have absolutely Zero respect for the guy! I've also yet to see where the umpire bumped into him, which someone said would justify such a reaction. I guess I never saw that angle.
