Difference in PJ Star coverage of local teams

Probably the single most ridiculous - and pointless - thread I've ever seen on this board. And, mea culpa: I haven't helped matters by posting three or four times!

A few things:

1. There is no bias against BU from the PJStar. It simply does not exist. Reynolds is paid to be a straightforward reporter of the facts - which he is - and Wessler is paid to offer his opinion - which he does. Now, that doesn't account for that rogue/sith lord copy editor I mentioned earlier :).

2. I've lived in New York City for 15 of the past 17 years. I read the papers here every day. I can't imagine how the conspiracy theorists on this board would react if they lived here and read the New York Post and Daily News. There would have to be an entire fan site just to handle the complaints about bias by the NYC media!

3. I frankly think that BU - and fans like us - are fortunate that, in this area of newspaper cutbacks and layoffs, the PJS continues to cover BU extensively, at home and on the road.

4. I love Jim Les as much as anyone you're ever going to meet but the bottom line is that BU has been mediocre-to-decent for a lengthy stretch of time and the PJS wouldn't be doing their jobs if they were looking at things with rose-colored glasses.

5. Da Coach, I think you're way, way off base on this front but, that said, I appreciate all the work that you and others do to make this board such a great forum for BU hoops. you do a great, great job and, while I don't post often, I stop by this board every day.

6. Go BU. Let's win some stinkin' games!!!!

What am I off base on?
All I have done is post 2 similar sets of articles/columns and commented on the obvious differences.
If you or anyone denies that there is a difference between this column by Wessler-
Nothing good about Bradley's loss
http://www.bradleyhoops.com/news/x1966819901/Wessler-Nothing-good-about-Bradleys-loss

and this column by the Bloomington Pantagraph columnist Randy Kindred about ISU's embarrassing loss-
Perimeter shooting woes hurt ISU effort against Rebels
http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/co...cle_1e90bb9c-fde2-11df-bb1d-001cc4c002e0.html

then I submit that you are biased or oblivious.

And for the record- I have never said there was bias by the PJS or anyone, so please do not suggest I have. I have only suggested an obvious inconsistency in the way these teams are covered. But if you think that writers/columnists never have any biases, now it is you who is being silly. Everyone does.

we have cited many times how the "media" and "press" slam message boards and blogs and the opinions given on them...

funny how this form of expression is only allowed only one way....such that if message boarders have an opinion about the media, they must shut up and let them do their jobs...

I'm still getting a kick out the first line in your original post DC.....

but now I'm confused....you don't think the PJS is biased or you have just never actually said those very words?

Very very very well said. This may be the POTY....Post of the Year!

I have read the online versions of the New York newspapers and follow a lot of those writers on twitter. IMO, the vast majority of their sarcasm is directed toward the professional athletes and coaches who are paid millions of dollars per year. That is a very different situation than the local rag using sarcasm against BU.

I think Asian covered this a bit but its worth repeating. ISU just came off a fairly good 3 year run...nothing spectacular but good.

But the "argument" for picking Bradley 5th was because that's where we've finished in the recent past. Where has isu finished recently and why weren't they picked to finish there again?

I don't understand how that "argument" can be used for one team and not the other.

Now you know how most of us feel every time a new thread is started that attacks the coaching and reminds us where Bradley has finished each of the last 8 years. :)

Don't forget the pointing out of JL's Valley record over his first three years, while at the same time downplaying or calling the Sweet 16 run a "fluke".

lefty, it seems you are doing the same thing others are doing. I have never said I believe the pjs is biased, yet several people, apparently including you are suggesting I did. The first line in my first post that you point to simply refers to this fact that many people rightfully believe bias exists, and others here feel they must be the defenders of the pjs and argue and attack anyone who says so and refute them. Therefore, anyone who has any opinion about the pjs here always gets attacked and shouted down, as I have been.

I guess some believe we are free to express our opinions only if they agree with theirs.

Good luck convincing the majority of people here that it doesn't matter if we lose by 31 or 5 at Duke!

OK, lets put it this way:) If a team plays 30 games in a season:roll: They lose all 30:( They lose 15 games by 30 or more points and they lose the other 15 by 1 to 10:( Their record is 30 loses;-) I don't care how many points my team loses by BUT DO CARE how they played, their effort, did they just get beet by a better team, did the coaches put the team in position to win and most of all did we lose a game we should of won;-) My Opinion
