Donivine Stewart commits to BU

Great news!! Another 5-10 guard! Go, go go, Braves!! :-D

I understand the sarcasim, but this is a quite high profile recruit. That type of signing, I hope will lead to continued higher profile recruits. He is not 6'10 but hopefully his signing can and will influence a big, especially one who knows Stewarts game and has can see himself playing with that type of point guard.

Side note as an LCHS grad this is great, hope he doesnt turn out like the last Limestone product who signed at BU to play basketball.

at one point when Donivine was a freshman, he was one of the top 3 rated kids in the state...
when some of the trouble happened at Limestone, kids ineligible, etc...then unfortunately Donivine's resume caught a little of the negativity even though he was totally uninvolved with that.
The fact that his team plays against schools like Richwoods, Manual, etc..that are the top teams in the state, helps develop his talent...but it hurts his chances of rising in the rankings a little as he simply cannot be expected to win games all by himself, although at time he does.

For those close to BU and who have been going to games, then you know "behind the scenes" we have known for a couple years that Donivine was being pursued by BU and really liked our program...and has been to campus and to games many, many times...

Here are some older threads noting that at one point Illinois had an offer extended (but then they got Tracy Abrams)

(note the prediction two posts below the one linked, saying BU was out of the running? ;))

Bruce Weber was at one of Donivine's games 2 years ago...

(Dan Poneman had Donivine Top 10)

Stewart is not your typical 5'10" point guard. This is one of the most highly-regarded recruits we have ever landed, and the best point guard recruit I can remember.

I trust your judgement, I've never seen him play. I didn't see DSE play either before he came to Bradley and that turned out good. I'm just a little depressed today because I've only got one team to follow now (I don't follow lots of teams, like many of you that post) in the NCAA and that would be UNI. I'll be following Illinois, ISU, and WSU in the NIT.

Donivine is as good of a scoring PG as we are ever gonna get........
He still holds some records in the Trusted Choice Tournament of Champions for scoring, and that was when he was playing against many of the very top players in the entire nation who were in those tournies...

Oh well. Some others seem to be in love with him so maybe he's got some potential. It only matters how they play for Bradley anyway..not how they played in high school. Welcome Donivine!

Donivine scores a lot of points, but has to out of necessity. He's a step ahead and a level above everyone else on the floor with him, and often times you'll see him make some great passes when guys don't even know they're open. He certainly can score, but I think he'll be much more of a distributor first, score second guy when he gets to the Hilltop. It will be important that BU surrounds him some great shooters, because he will be able to get into the lane just about any time he wants to.

This is no knock on Sam Maniscalco, but I definitely feel that the BU offense would work better if the point guard can beat his man clear off the dribble, without having to receive a screen high from the 5 man. To me, the BU offense ran a lot smoother with Ruffin beating his man and then kicking to open shooters.

As another LCHS grad, I couldn't agree more! Looking forward to showing up at the old gym with the BU gear on next year!

Great job JL and staff! :D

We have recruited the Peoria area the last two years with unparalleled success, at least in recent memory. We have landed Peoria-area players in the past, but I cannot recall a time where two years in a row we've landed the top prospects from the area. Last year we landed both PJ Star POY's in Simms-Edwards (big schools) and Jordan Prosser (small schools), and now we've landed the area's top prospect for 2011. Great job!

Yeah - it's a very lack-luster tournament this year IMO. I will be rooting for those teams as well. Everyone seems to be into the final four, but unless a B-10 school makes it, I'd almost rather watch the NIT finals.

It's kinda' funny to ponder:
The MVC won the challenge this year over the MWC. So UNI (#1 from MVC) gets a worse seed than UNLV (#4 in MWC), and is 30 better in the RPI rankings too. Guess the challenge hasn't been settled yet! Come on Panthers - win one for the Valley!

This is great news:!: Another area All State kid to BU:D Maybe this is the reason for the Tyler Les announcement a month ago about not attending BU:-o
In to 2011 we could be looking at a starting line-up of three All Starters from the Local Area:cool: Jimmy has done a great job from the beginning of getting good local kids to stay home and play:!::D If DS is as good as Ruff was, look out but we have to have a inside game like when Ruff played! Great job JL and Staff:!: Now get us a couple good Bigs to go with this:!::)

I don't think the two issues are related. Tyler has always wanted to go where he could play, and he is friends with Donivine and has known DS was probably coming to Bradley for a long time.

BTW, Tyler Les could still commit to Bradley. He remains undecided right now.
