Dunson's Comment

I have not taken a stance on this thread because it is getting vicious in here!

I can see both sides of the argument and let's face it a few of us got sloshed on the cool aid early on last year and are a bit gun shy to get our feelings hurt again. I'm one to sweat out the bad and fill myself up again but probably not drink as much so as to be able to see who I am taking home.

I believe the O will be fine. Our season will go as our D goes and rebounding.

I sure hope we presuure the ball end line to end line.

That's what you do with a rough hangover after mating with the family room chaise lounge.

;)

Ahhhh..... but the next night..... you'll be right back on the kool-aide hard core. Let me get the first round, or two. :D

LOL!

Ha Brocks, I share your excitement and I am also very optimistic about what this team may/can accomplish this season. I know we are not alone and that includes BB and Lakeveiw. BB and Lakeveiw both are very straight forward, direct and pull no punches when expressing their opinions on any matter. Myself, I prefer someone like that, as to someone who dances around the issues, their opinions and trys to find the political right way to present it. At least you know where stand. They both have given their direct opinions on issues that others and I have presented, so you are not being single out here nor do I think that was the intent here! Nor do I think they meet to detour or to destroy yours or anyone else's excitement or optimism for this years team!. If people don't like the way they voice their opinions, they just need not to read them, as I know they will never sugar coat them enough for some. I know both are loyal, knowledgeable fans and very supportive of BU basketball just like all of us on this site. If not BB is surely spending allot of his time and $ following a program he does not like.
Anyway, thanks for your post on what DD said. I would expect and except nothing less from a player about his team and teammates.

Been away a couple days . . . didn't think my rather innocuous little post would cause such a conflagration!

Anyway . . . DR must have thought the comment meant something interestint, granting him that he is not in the habit of putting mere surplusage in print. And it's not news to anyone that any player on a D-I roster SHOULD be able to play. That isn't the issue; the issue is whether they CAN. I recall many a BU roster with only 5 or 6 real contributors at this level. If we have 13 such players, that will be a first.

I'm not clearing a spot on my wall for this year's championship banner. Just thought DD's comment was worth noting. It tells me something, coming from him, about this team's potential depth of legit talent.

After reading the long-winded analysis in this thread, I am reminded of the old adage, "often wrong, but never in doubt." :)

I'm with Brocks, I think DD's comment is a harbinger of the good things that we'll see this year! Go Braves

I agree DB.....I don't think anyone needs to read in between lines to see that he is excited about the players we have and the atmosphere surrounding the team....it is catching.....I know SamS is pumped as well as Will.....its always exciting entering a new season!

For the record, I don't care to hear that a workout or practice is looking good. It means nothing, other than the likelihood what's being worked on is the wrong stuff.

Which I'd rather not have or continue to hear.

brocks...Congratulations, I think you are officially the first person in the history of sports message boards to use the word "conflagration." You are a true pioneer and visionary, great pull!

Right now anyone can say anything they like because not one game has been played yet! I'll personally reserve my judgment for this team come around the first week of January. I want to see the style of play, will the front court come to play night in and night out, will someone on this team step up to be the leader and wants to and makes the tough shots. Like it or not there are a lot of question marks for this team, some would say more then last year. 3 things will need to happen for us to be better:

1) AW will need to step up his on court intensity. Last year too many times we could go a complete 1/2 without hearing his name. Can't happen but in only a handful of games this year.

2) Someone and I'm not say who will need to be able to go after rebounds like their life depends on it and the rest of the team is going to have to do a conserted effort to box out a bit more.

3) We will need to protect the ball a lot better this year and have a knack to get turnovers while being that team that seems to have the ball go their way. (Drake last year always seemed to have the ball bounce their way. Was it luck or hustle? I say it was determination!)

If you don't believe that Dodie Dunson was sending a cryptic message through the press you might be a fan who's never satisfied. I feel like that's the beginning of a Jeff Foxworthy bit...

Dunstons comments are comments of a guy who is

Probably is very excited about this upcoming season.

Yes his point of reference is the one year at ISU and one year at Vincennes, but as was pointed out previously his one year at ISU had several very good players and I am sure his team at Vincennes had talent along with playing against some talent.

But remember he is a basketball player and basketball players sometimes play against a lot of other really good basketbal players and his assessment probably includes all of his "playing" experience.

I believe he probably is right about the talent on this team, but there was all kinds of talent last year. A season though is not a sprint it is a marathon and lots and lots of things can happen between an informal practice in September and hopefully a selection Sunday in March.

His comments are a heck of alot better then well we really are working on coming togther as a team or we still are feeling each other out. Negativity breeds negativity.
