Forgot about Jimmy Caruthers. He was exciting.

Another........Bobby Humbles...........never forget the game where he triple pumped with about 2 seconds left...........shot it about 30 feet out and swished it to win the game...........think it was either North Texas State or West Texas.

Also, Greg Smith IS Six Pack Smitty. Always joked that he would open a six pack in the 3 second lane. If he wasn't getting a 3 s. violation, he was making a great move to the basket. He had 1 really great year. The rest were mediocre.

Gave all he had and graduated with Degree in hand. If I was Reggie I would have been compelled to give those fans the one finger salute and walk off into the sunset...he didn't and I applaud him for that.

This is tough. I don't think I can pick just one.

I really started watching BU basketball in the early 80's as a youngster. So my list is as follows.

80's---- Mitchell Anderson, Eddie Mathews, Jim Les, The Hawk, Mike Williams

90's----Funches, Chad Kleine, A.P., Deon Jackson, Roberson

Last Decade------ Cello, JJ, Cellus, Ruff, J.C., Zach Andrews, Will Franklin.

So that is my long list. So hard to pick one, or even a couple, and I wasn't even around for the early years that BU basketball on the national map. Probably Hawk and Massive Mike would top my all-time lists.

Gee, I am so sorry for asking that question. There are differences. I roomed in college with a star basketball player and he was a genuinely nice guy compared to about anyone athlete or not (Tom Brown, UWGB & Providence St. Mel HS), but most of the other basketball players were a bunch of stuck up kids who looked down on others and treated others as inferior. If you don't think that is true about a lot of BB players you are living in a fantasy world or you are (or once was) one of them and don't understand.

You stated the Hawk was a nice guy. I simply asked "Was he nice as compared to other players (some can be really snobby athletes) or was he nice as would be compared to the average Joe?" There is a difference. What is so wrong about that? All you had to do was say yes or no, or you were not sure about the question and I could have restated it. You don't have to be a smart ___. That's one thing bad about this (and other) discussion boards... Sometimes you ask a simple and innocent question and you get jumped on. Someone else jumped on me too. Thanks for piling on. I just asked a simple question because I did not know the Hawk and I was curious. I had always hoped and thought he was, but you never know until you ask someone who knows him. Did you enjoy your smart ___ comment? Is that how you like to treat people and get your jollies?
 
GTD I'll answer your question about the Hawk. Compared to all the other players on his team and to the general school population The Hawk had to be one of the nicest down to earth guys you could talk to. The other players were just like any other jock on any other campus, a bit of an attitude and cockiness. Hersey seemed more mature then the average student and seemed to be serious and always carried himself with class. When they could, you would see the other players at the Frat houses partying away, not once did I see Hersey partying away. If someone did, I'd like to know. I'd also like to say you never saw JL gettig out of hand and cruising around. If I remeber right he did well in class and was always doing things in the community.

FYI...I'm not condeming the partying because I did my fair share but the two guys from that generation who did well after BU were the serious types that never got into any troubles.
 
Thank you SFP. That was all I was looking for in an answer. Simple as that. That was a very good explanation and I will take you at your word. I sensed he was like that and glad to hear he was. This is a little of the topic, but for many years Hersey was the only reason I watched an NBA game. When he was in Seattle he seemed to be the complete opposite of Gary Payton who I always thought was a punk, but who really knows, maybe Payton was a good guy too off the court? Who am I to judge that? Well, I can't because I really don't know. Thanks again SFP.
 
1. Joe Allen.....seemed bigger than life to a 10 year old
2. Mitchell Anderson.......seemed like he could score at will
3. Curtis Stuckey.....if CS had been a Brave for four years he might have challenged the Hawks scoring record
4. Deon Jackson......if he got the ball down low....he scored

I thought Len Bertollini was a pretty nice, down-to-earth type guy, as well as Luuuuuuuuuuuuke Jackson (though Luke was a TERRIBLE bowler :lol: )
 
Hawk was awesome and my #1...
AP was great too..

My favorite is Lawrence 'Boogie' Wright. I feel like no one I've seen play, plays with the heart and dedication that he does. So he gets the nod for now, though in a couple of years I'd love to say SM or TB or JP... We'll just have to see...

Oh come on, Mac...My obsession with Heemer should go without saying. Only thing that stopped Brando from going pro was Mr. Ob infront of him.....**** shame. Anyways, yes: Brandyn Heemskerk and Jeremy Crouch (check the sig) are also on my list
 
One name that needs to be mentioned is Al Smith as he may have been the best overall athlete to ever play at Bradley, he could have played professional baseball and football to go along with basketball.
