Favorite restaurants in St. Louis, and other things to do

One thing I do like about the Friday afternoon session, is that you have the option of attending the night session games, or going out for a nice dinner or other activities on Friday night.

I have a few of my favorite places in St. Louis to go for dinner, but I am always open to new ideas. I would like to hear from other fans who have been to St. Louis, where are your favorite places to go to eat?
Any other activities worth trying? Also, add any tips you might suggest to others who try your suggestions.

I am not saying these places are better than any others, they are just ones I've tried, and would recomend--

The Hill- if anyone is not familiar- there is an area of St. Louis, west of downtown known as The Hill. It is predominantly an Italian area, mostly residential, with a large number of family-owned restaurants. I don't recall the names of all the restaurants I've tried in The Hill area, but they have all been great. Most are small restaurants that get busy Friday and Saturday nights, so I would suggest going a bit early. Parking can also be a problem, as you need to find a street spot for most restaurants.
Take I-44 west from downtown, and exit south at Kingshighway Blvd.
If you need a map, go to Google maps- http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
And enter- The hill, st. louis, mo

Mike Shannons Steakhouse- 620 Market St. right behind (just west) the Hilton at the Ballpark hotel. A little high-priced, but the steaks are really good.

Dierdorf and Hart's Steakhouse- owned by former NFL player and broadcaster Dan Dierdorf and former NFL quarterback and SIU star Jim Hart.- 323 West Port Plaza, St. Louis. You have to drive out to the far west edge of St. Louis to visit this location since their downtown restaurant closed. Fantastic food.

Carmine's Steakhouse- 20 S. 4th St.-

another good steakhouse and Italian food downtown. Not as busy as many other restaurants downtown.

TGI Fridays- 529 Chestnut St., just north of the Hilton at the Ballpark.- for less expensive but good food.

Jake's Steaks- 708 N. 2nd, in Laclede's Landing area.- a mid-priced steakhouse, usually easier to get in to.

One other place some may be interested in visiting is the Casino-

I am not big on gambling, but I have been there while others gambled, and they do have a couple nice restaurants there-

There's nothing better than sitting back and relaxing with a cold one watching the night session after the Braves have won in the afternoon. It's as care free as life gets IMO.

After that usually it's the Lumiere (formerly it was The President), and Morgan Street Brewery. The Soulard area has some nice pubs to hit as well, I am a big fan of McGuirk's, especially if the weather is nice.

And if it's a late night for you and you can't find a place to eat, Mauricio's Pizza Buffet is open downtown until 4 AM. Your body will hate you in the morning, but it will love you when you get the $12 all-you-can-eat buffet. ;)

Sundecker's Thursday afternoon.... need some help from BU fans when the CU nation comes in.

The Hill Friday night after a BU win for some great pasta.

Party around Union Station after a BU semi-final win!

The Hill

The Hill

My favorite on The Hill is Cunetto's:
http://www.cunetto.com/
It's moderately priced and the food is very good.

Just a few blocks down from Cunetto's is Favazza's.
http://www.favazzas.com/
It's little higher on prices.. similar food.

Many people swear by Dominic's.. I have not eaten there, but several people I know say it's the best.. also higher priced.

Then there is the popular Ragazzi's.
www.rigazzis.com
I call it more blue collar food.. a lot of food for the price.. not quite the same quality. Beer served in frozen fish bowls.

By the way.. it is just as easy to get to most of these restaurants by taking Highway 40/64 west to Kingshighway or Hampton and going south.

My fav on the hill is Gian-Tony's

We'll be there on Sat (after a win)....

Another low-cal (not) must visit is Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. OK-March is not the best time for Frozen Custard but you cannot go to St. Louis without a visit.

For a bit more upscale Sidney Street Cafe is always a great option.

For a great burger there is always O'connel's pub

I'm getting hungry already....

Tuckers in Soulard has excellent steaks.....they have been voted as the best in St Louis before. They have a 16 oz filet that you cant beat and prices are very reasonable.

Soulard is just south of downtown St. Louis.

You head toward the Arch.. hit Broadway and turn right. It runs down by the Soulard area (and the Soulard Farmers' Market) and toward the AB Brewery.

If money is no object.. Tony's
http://www.saucemagazine.com/tonys/
right in downtown.. 5 star 5 diamond italian food

also on the pricey end in downtown
http://www.kemolls.com/

If you head west to Clayton..
Cafe Napoli
http://www.cafenapoli.com/home.html

there are two restaurants in the Ritz Carlton-also in Clayton
http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/StLouis/Default.htm

and one more thought.. you can go to the art museum in Forest Park and eat the the Wolfgang Puck restaurant.. depending on the time of the games.

A trip to StL without hitting up The Drunken Fish just wouldn't be right!!! Amazing Japanese food and awesome drink selection. The downtown location is part of Laclede's Landing.

I really like Fitz's in the loop. It's not exactly high class if that's what your looking for but it's got good rootbeer and food. It's sandwhiches, burgers, wraps, wings, pizza, etc....that type of place.

Love Zia's but I heard they had a little trouble with a fire. Not sure if they've reopened. Best thing about St. Louis is there food.

Blueberry Hill in the Loop takes the cake for me. Great food, great atmosphere. It's a bar and grill owned by Chuck Berry with live music on the weekends and some really, really awesome memorabilia on the walls. If you are into music at all, you'll love it!
