Final: BU 63 UIC 62

Nowadays - just about any coach who does a "remarkable job" or "magnificent job" (terms we have seen) will be in line for a contract boost & extra salary...
If Geno earns it more power to him - and congratulations.....I hope he does...
Geno has done a very good job - he's also being paid well to do a very good job - if Bradley finishes as a Thursday team I would be extremely surprised if he gets a salary boost ...there's your answer

BTW -- there's a certain comedic effect one can get watching the fans' comments about coaches' abilities....
Some fans can only see the past few games and how much they won or lost by......
When ISU was winning everyone was saying Muller was a GREAT coach who knew how to win as a head coach..
then he hit the Valley part of his schedule and lost a whole bunch straight and suddenly many of his own fans were backtracking and saying he still has a whole lot to learn, and some even openly began wondering if maybe Muller was too inexperienced and shouldn't have gotten the job.
Then bingo - ISU started winning and all the comments were glowing - then they drop one to Bradley then a few more and now it's gone the other way again...

IMO there shouldn't be a salary boost after year 2 regardless of how we finished....

I don't disagree - but it has happened.......
- there have even been coaches who got a raise before they ever even coached or won a single game.***

Brad Stevens took over as head coach at Butler in...spring of 2007..

in less than two years he had done well enough that he got a raise and a contract extension.

Then a year later when a few other teams were sniffing around - they gave him another raise...

Then in 2012 they kicked it up again to over a Million and all the way to the 2020's

Well I wouldn't compare our situation to Butler's/Stevens. He was assistant who took over and I don't know what kind of contract he got then but my guess nothing like Geno coming into BU....so I understand that one.
When and if we do so well that other teams coming sniffing around the administration will have a decision to make in keeping Geno.

But really these two situations aren't comparable IMO

So you think nobody is going to even consider Geno for Coach of the Year? Come On! I'm not saying he will get any votes, but other coaches have recognized the great job that Geno has done with the expectations heading into the season.

You obviously don't correspond with other Valley fans around the league who view Bradley's progress as a surprise and like the job that Ford has done.

No consideration. ALL coaches and media know the Non-Conference SOS (340's) and that will take care of any consideration for CofY... PERIOD. You don't play a CupCake schedule to get CofY. You play a CupCake schedule to get the team some confidence.... mission accomplished.

Now keep improving and play a tougher schedule.

I don't think Geno is close to COY.......but it's a conference award isn't it?

I don't think a non conference schedule has any impact does it? If Bradley had somehow ended up 3rd-4th or better than maybe he would have a shot...even with a weak non con

It's supposed to be. Like the all-conference teams.

I am sure some people will think I am crazy for this, but I would say that Albeck might be one of the worst coaches in BU history. The guy did minimal recruiting. He used BU as a holding place for his next gig. He had an attitude like he was doing BU a favor being here.

He set the program back more than he helped it.

Agree. Only good he did, IMO, was being able to keep the players from leaving after the firing of their previous coach and after a season of readjustment, all offense and no defense, the team was able to have an outstanding season and reach the Big Dance.

I know everyone knows this but it is still funny how every thread ends up with the same posts (see last 4 posts prior to this)

Right, but I'm responding to earlier posts. I have no shame in saying that Les did a lot of good things here, and he did have some decent success. But no matter what side of the Les fence people are on, I don't think spending so much time debating on Les's merits does any good two years after the fact, especially when everyone should be giving Geno 100% support. If Bradley continues to be a .500 or less team 2 to 3 years down the line, I'm sure people will be saying things differently. But 2 years is certainly not enough time to evaulate a coach's resume, considering it took Coach Mo 3 year, Les 4 years, Dana Altman 4 years, and Coach K 4 years to turn things around.

Did you ever fix my brakes???? See you Wednesday night!!

I don't evaluate a coach's resume after just 2 years, though there is no question things are trending the right way. And if I based a season based on a two or three week stretch, then of course there's no way it would be accurate.

Geno may not get that salary bonus this year, but he is slightly ahead of were Les was after 3 seasons, and way ahead of Coach Mo after his second season. And we all know how well both did the next few seasons afterward. I'll wait till the end of year 4 (or sooner if year 4 is a disaster) before evaluating whether or not Geno is doing his job.

Well, that's unfortunate. I wouldn't give raises that early in a coach's tenure unless they made a very quick turnaround towards an NCAA Tournament bid.

Agreed. But we couldn't even beat 300 RPI teams last year! Anyone remember Loyola at home?

I still believe Geno did a great job turning things around towards respectibility, and he should be commended for that. But yes, a tougher schedule will be demanded, especially by year 4. But at the same time, he still should at least be in the COY discussion this year, even if he doesn't have a realistic chance of winning it.

Every coach is under consideration and the answer is yes or no. Not this year for Geno, but looking forward to the future.

wow - where were all the fans with such minimal expectations a couple years ago??
The world seemed filled with people who were miserable even with 20 wins or 4th place and an NCAA bid
T sorry man can't stick up for you in this one. Those two sentences are just plain B.S.
Your putting up a pretty good battle but NO ONE is BUYING it. Sorry man me neither.

We had an NCAA bid A COUPLE years ago? That's news to me. I remember one getting about 7 years ago. In fact a couple years ago I don't believe we were anywhere close to getting invited to the NCAA tournament.

OH maybe this has been said..

a friend of mine at the UIC game said KB's HS team Oak Park River Forest was sitting in front of him at the game....kinda neat... they got any studs on the rise?

Brad's cupboard was already full when he took over there. The only question was how he would be able to restock that cupboard in a couple of years. Would Butler continue to be a high level national power, or would Brad turn into another Chris Lowery. I think we know the answer to that question now, but there is no doubt he did deserve at least a raise after two seasons. Then the long term "we'll pay you whatever you want so you don't run to a BCS school" contract would come a couple of years after that.
