For everything said..tonight was the JL era wrapped in a bow!

The Green Bay Packers had many injuries to key players this season. They went on to win the Super Bowl, not contend for the basement.

The Bradley Braves have had many injuries to key players the past few seasons. I'm still waiting for them to simply win the MVC regular season or conference tourney, and not contend for the basement.

Wow, the comprisons like this are really starting to amaze me. How is the GB Packers' situation relevant? I could find plenty of examples of teams losing star players and dropping way back, but I would be accused of making excuses, and being a kool-aid drinker.
Would the GB Packers have won the Super Bowl if they had lost Aaron Rodgers? Gimme a break.

How is it not relevant? They had 14 starters lost for the season on IR. That's 14 of 22 starters. All-Pro's among them.

Some teams lose star players and drop back. You are correct. Some lose star players and still win. It's not an automatic. Why resign yourself to that?

Some additional thoughts.....

Last night's game did not change much for Bradley. We are still at/near the bottom and will remain there as well. A win would not have moved us up the ladder enough to change anything. Morale-wise, a win would have been great, but otherwise it would not have done much.

I do not believe the Administration's decision on Jim Les' future hinged on last night's result either.

The facts are still all the same.

BU has injuries...

BU does not finish top 3 in conference...

BU is just above .500 during Jim Les' tenure as coach...

BU has won about 45% of its conference games under Les....

I will bet, most posters still believe what they believed before yesterday's game.

Yet some only manage the 2:35 game Friday in STL and excuses continue to be made for their underachieving program

Add dwindling attendance and poor home marks to that list...

BU is 7-8 at home this year...

Danny Adams said as much on the radio last night. He said our D was not good at all, especially on giving UNI wide open 3's.

We continually give teams WIDE OPEN looks at three pointers. This has been a trait of the JL era since day one. An average shooter becomes a good shooter and a good shooter becomes a great shooter when you have no defensive pressure on you. Going into a game with UNI you know they have good shooters....you know #52 is their best shooter....yet we continue to sag our defense in the middle and let these guys roam free around the arc for shooting practice....and then after they have made more than their share of 3's BU doesn't make any defensive adjustments....

I do side with this part - to me, Maniscalco is our Rodgers.

I think it's real hard to fire a guy in a year like this, because of the hand he was dealt, but it is acceptable to expect improvement. I guess the question is, could someone else have done better in the same situation? Impossible to know.

The frustrating part of last night's game was that I don't think we got outplayed - just out-smarted. Our offense had pretty good flow.
But had the game been coached better and players put into position to have a fighting chance, I think BU ends up winning this one.

I think each Brave on the floor played a solid game and we still lost. When we go zone, our athleticism and grittiness get lost.

Our perimeter shooting woes were exposed last night too, and when AW doesn't feel it from outside, we're in trouble.

Just don't get why we didn't get WE and JP more involved, as they were having pretty good nights offensively.

EXACTLY! The same line could be used for if SM and TB were still playing. We really dont know what would have happened.

But if you distort other people's opinions enough, you can always make them look like buffoons, and yourself look like a genius.

Goes both ways....

I would call this comparison somewhat valid, but not totally. The Packers can also go out and sign players to replace them. There's a little more of a "scrap heap" to choose from in the NFL than in the NCAA.

I even agree with those that say sammy is our best player.

But if he had stayed healthy aw wouldnt be here in his 5th year. he missed two years ago when he was a lot more one dimensional.

Furthermore, he wouldnt have gotten near the shotz this year if the two of them were around.

I got tired of the excuses before the sweet 16 run. Loved the season after it. Everything else...
Mediocrity or worse.

I don't think Aaron Rodgers ever lost as a Packer to a last place team or a scrimmage team. BU with both Brown and Maniscalco (last year) and then with just Maniscalco (this year) has lost to D2 as well as VERY bad D1 teams. I blame this on coaching. Sorry. If not the "in-game" the in the preparation of the game. And, if neither, then I blame it on the recruiting.

All the more reason that recruiting and properly assembling all of the pieces preemptively is so important in college basketball. That's why good coaches have consistency year after year.

Amen. And this to me is the biggest indictment on the current administration.

So then do we accept consistent mediocrity? What is it going to take for people to be held accountable?

I'm tired of what I'm seeing from this program.

True, but we can't go out and replace guys out for the season. We have two fewer players than we would have had. GB can go out and sign replacements.

ETA: I think the comparison can be used, but they are not truly identical situations.

Not really. In terms of being "dealt a hand", JL's role in the program is as the dealer. And a dealer that loses money for the house isn't a dealer for very long.
