From the Shockers' website

We'd be saying the same thing if we were in their shoes. I've never liked it when someone throws up a shot at the last second when they aren't even defended. We've done it a few times this year and every time in my head I'm thinking "please don't shoot it". I don't really care if it was halfhearted....I'm not saying anything about CR...I'm sure he's got PLENTY of class, but the ball should not be going anywhere near the hoop in the last seconds of a game when the team is up by double digits. It's not a big thing...but sometimes it's the little things that count, and say a lot. It's just respect.

I agree, but if I had some action on a line that might make me a winner..... :-o :-P

I'm with Rick on this one...get over it.

BU won and our fans get free food...thanks Chris. I'll enjoy my dinner a little more knowing you shot it just so I could eat it.

Big deal....these people need to get over it...

Also, the majority of the problem is their lack in being able to get past the Tony Bennett shot that ended their run in 06 in the tournament as thats been their best shot to win the tournament.

It wasn't that big of a deal now nor will it be later on...it was a 12 point game made to 15....it wasn't like we were running and gunning at 4 minutes left and drawing the game up to 30...

Let it go Wichita, you lost....Head home and prepare for Saturday. Besides, if you people even knew half of what you are talking about, you'd know our coaches were all trying to get Chris' attention telling him not to shoot...

There are things that should be concerning you a lot more than Coach Les' class.

Oh, and thanks for bringing it up again Wichita fan....

I'll gladly think of Wichitard while I'm eating my steak dinner....Thanks C-Rob!

I say kudos to Chris for taking and making that last shot. No more unclassy than Wichita's Hawkins doing his little on court celebration after converting a shot he was fouled on. Seriously Hawkins? That was your 4th point of the GAME and it was the 2nd half!!!!!!

i have had two different people call me this season asking if i had a winning ticket i didnt use

Was WSU still playing full-court D on the final Bradley possession?

:?:

NO, they didn't, it looked like they didn't think he'd shoot, because Coach Les was yelling not to shoot.

However, their starters were all i the game right until the buzzer, while BU had subs in the game and had pulled their starters.

In his post-game press conference, Gregg Marshall made a big deal out of the Roberts shot. He tried comparing it toi what happened to them at Creighton earlier in the year when CU ran a play for a lob-dunk at the end of a game with a 16 point lead.
Here is the account of that play (3rd segment)--
http://blogs.kansas.com/shockwaves/2008/12/30/tuesday-at-koch-arena/

Sorry, Coach Marshall, this is not even close to running an organized play for a lob-dunk. It's just one guy launching an unlikely 25+ footer at the urging of the crowd, with the coaches yelling at him not to shoot.
By the way, the Creighton coaches never apologized for their team's actions like our coaches did.

By the way- I came across this interesting interview of Gregg Marshall--
Is Marshall happy at Wichita State?
http://www.ksn.com/sports/38581027.html

Watch the video and hear what he say about the Wichita State program. He sounds like he had second thoughts after taking the WSU job, but now he is more hopeful.

Here is what Kirk Wessler said in a post on the PJ Star board--

Game-ending shot. Really bad form. As I said in the blog, though, I don't think Roberts was doing it maliciously. But that has to be drilled into them. They actually did the same thing last week, only a little bit earlier. Bradley got possession with the shot clock turned off -- I think there were 20-plus seconds left -- and pushed it up the court for a shot. I figured that would get addressed and emphasized: Don't do that stuff. Shut it down and dribble it out. And then it happens again, in this fashion. To make matters worse, Marshall was not in a forgiving mood. He even went up to Roberts after the game and expressed his displeasure in, shall we say, language not fit for print. To me, that's bush. Les had apologized to Marshall immediately after the game, and that's where Marshall should have left it. You don't go up to another guy's player and chew on him like that. Chew on the coach for not properly training the kid if you think that's the problem, but not the kid.

OK, now tell me who is lacking in sportsmanship?

oh for Pete's sake "live or die"? I've use it once in all the years it's been going on.

I agree with much that's been said

Marshall has more to worry about

It's not a HUGE deal

I know if the shoe were on the other foot some here would be complaining

But CR sholdn't have shot it either. BU doesn't play games to see that the fans win a steak promo

We sit near the visitors bench. I said it after last years game and I'll say it again, I am not impressed with Gregg Marshall.

I have sat on many different benches at many levels of basketball. I worked for the Valley for several years and had the opportunity to observe some of the best valley coaches (Spoonhour, Barone, Herrin, Tubby Smith, etc.) up close and during games.

The good ones are "connected" with their staff, their players and have a "reasonable" working relationship with the officials. They will often get after a player or official, but they shift quickly back to that focused mode. Gregg Marshall exhibits none of these qualities.

Marshall is a head case during games, he is yelling and giving cross stares to players on his own bench (they aren't even in the game!). The way he behaved in cursing at Chris Roberts doesn't surprise me.

This is JMHO I am sure some with a better perspective may disagree.

Da Coach...I know you sit much closer to the visitors bench than I, what do you see?

What I saw was similar to your discussion, he was doing a lot of yelling at officials and his own players.
Occasionally he would turn to one of his assistants and ask what happened on the floor, because he would miss stuff.

I saw no problem with the effort of the Wichita players, but their offense left some to be desired. They just don't seem to ever cut or pass with the intent of creating better shots. They rely on individual players' athleticism to get their points, and against a good, well prepared defense they will struggle to score.

I cant believe how upset the WSU fans are about the shot that Roberts made. Its like the entire game hinged on that one last possession. Their board is 17 pages of mostly complaining about what Roberts did.

Look what Roberts did probably was not right but he did it and honestly it was a hope and miracle it went in, if he would have went to the rim and tomahawk dunked then everyone has a right to be po'd.

But, I am disgusted by the fact that their coach thinks it is ok to verbally abuse Roberts. If there is diginity in winning with class there certainly is diginity in losing with class. He is an adult and needs to act like one. You do not ever have the right to verbally abuse a player, let alone one who is not on your own team. I believe the Valley needs to invesitgate his actions towards Roberts and if it is deemed he used inapporpriate words he should be suspended.

Why would it be ok for him to cuss out or verbally abuse Roberts in that moment, but if he would have done it in the flow of the game or when Roberts was walking to the huddle before a timeout it would not have been acceptable?

I think his actions are what need to be put under the microscope.

I agree

When I bowled on the professional bowlers tour for a short time years ago and I was bowling someone in a match play game and they were beating the crap out of me (or the other way around) they (or I) did not "throw off" in the last frame--we would just keep trying hard and if we threw 3 more strikes and killed the guy that's just the way it goes. People need to grow up. If you get a beat down, take it. And if you get a chance for one, do it. So what, Roberts made the WSU coach mad, on the other hand he really made a lot of PAYING fans happy. Is BU basketball about making the opposing coach happy or making PAYING fans happy? If WSU doesn't like it, get better!

To me Marshall needed to express his opinion on the shot to JL and then move on. JL apologized. Stay away from other teams players which to me was a bigger mistake then what Roberts made.

Marshall has bigger fish to fry like getting his team playing better as they have been then to make a big deal about this non issue.

If I would have been him when asked about the shot I would have said...."I've got more importaint issues to be concerned about then some kid shooting a meaningless three to get BU fans a free steak"

Greg Marshall will leap for the first higher profile job that comes along. If he can somehow get one "hot" year out of his "dogs" (at least that's how he treats his players) and become a hot item again like he was at Winthrop he'll be gone.

You sure left a legacy at Winthrop didn't you Greggie? That program is now in shambles thanks to his overzealousness to recruit Jucos and win immediately. Now that Peele is at Winthrop he can rebuild that program the right way.
