GF vs. JL (PERSONALITY WISE)

I was just curious as to what people think of GF as a person.

I was able to become acquaintances with JL to the point where he and I would recognize each other if we saw each other, and he was friendly. However, before this and through other observations...he did seem like a pretty stern, intimidating, not-unfriendly-but-not-overly-friendly guy.

Is Geno different? Or was JL more smiley and friendly when he first arrived on campus?

Once again this is my opinion of JL....wondering what others think??

Basically my attitude toward this is that it would have be nice if JL was a more friendly guy in general to everyone...
 
hmmm...this isn't likely to last long -- tick, tick...

but I'll take a crack...

Both were well liked, have many close, loyal, and long time friends, and both deal well with fans as long as you're loyal to the team and give them a chance without harshly judging based on prejudice.
If there's a difference I think Geno has a bit more of a self-depreciating style -- joking about himself like Mo used to
 
I have no beef against either coach, and have also never met either one personally. I would also be interested in the differences in their personality.

Also, I would also be interested in the most glaring changes that were made with the coaching change. Practice philosophy, player communication, whatever. In what ways are the things we may never see different with the coaching change?

Once again, I make no inferences of positive or negative either way, because I don't know. I would appreciate input from people who actually know the answers and have dealt with both coaches.
 
I have not gotten a chance to meet GF, but I can remember about 6 years going to a game at SIU. I was walking to my seat wearing a Bradley T-Shirt, and Coach Les got my attention and said 'Nice Shirt' right about tip-off time. I had to do a double take, thinking he was talking to someone else, since I have never met him. That is something I will always remember.
 
Geno- more outgoing and likes to talk- to anyone :)

JL- he was an innately shy person who tried to be more outgoing, but it came off as aloofness. But people who really knew Jim know he was humble and not at all aloof or arrogant, which his detractors like to accuse him of.

Da Coach--I think all coaches who get to that level hasvesome arrogance about them (JL and Geno included). You kinda have to I think. Or at least extreme self confidence.

But I agree with DC and tornado. Both good guys I'm sure. JL was just a bit more reserved. Geno is very self deprecating and more of his stuff is based on humor. Certainly both guys were great ambassadors of the university from a personal standpoint. As was Jim Molinari.

I'll disagree a little DC....and leave it at that
 
I never had any problems in the few meetings i had with JL, but over the 2 years he was here and i was here i only had a few meetings with him. The only time i can recall seeing him on campus was when i was waiting in line for weezer tickets last year and he brought doughnuts for a bunch of us in line on his way to his office.

Geno on the other hand has been out and about on campus. I remember seeing him with SS on his recruiting visit in the student center on campus. Geno went to panfrasing to encourage greek attendence at the game last night. And i'll never forget, with in the first few months geno came to our first red sea end of the year party. We only drew like 40 students or so, but geno went up to each group that was hanging around eating pizza and introduced himself and talked personally with each group.

I think both are great men, and great representations of Bradley University. But i would say Geno is much more out going and has a much more approachable image on campus
 
One thing I have noticed is that at least so far Geno seems to keep his cool better when calls don't go his way. He just moves on and keeps coaching. I understand getting upset at bad calls but I also like Geno's attitude because it's important to keep the players focused on the next play and not keep thinking about the previous one.
 
To defend JL on campus presence....

Mo was out there working tail off in first few years...

JL did the same early.

I think the coaches get older (legitimately) and get tired of the pandering to the frats.

This is yet another reason why this place is a 5 year job. Not a 10 year job.
 
i agree, i think its something you need to stay active with if you dont have a championship caliber program. I think this is only a 10 year job if you are consistently near the top of the valley and getting NCAA and NIT bids
