One line from that story was interesting...
"The 6-7, 240-pound Lewis showed an ability to get inside and move opponents around in the scrimmage"
hmm..."move opponents around"??
--so pushing Blake Mishler around was pretty impressive, huh???
.......there was once a time when pushing and shoving was actually called as a foul...
Also...a review of the stats shows that in the 28 minutes of scrimmaging, the players took a total of 95 shots...that's a 136 shot-per-40 minute pace...
or roughly a shot by someone every 17 seconds for the entire 28 minutes!
so it looks like they're going to try to shoot and put up some numbers....but I wonder if that's what Coach Jank really wants....just gunning and launching within 17 seconds every offensive possession? (gotta recall that in an intrasquad scrimmage, 2/3 of the defenders are non-starters and 1/3 are such deep bench players and walk ons that it won't be the least bit representative of what they'll see when they actually face a D-I opponent - which of course doesn't actually happen until like late December!)
Of their returning guys, only Phillips, OE, and Dinma seemed to be playing well... and of course just about everyone agrees those guys are the likely starters unless someone gets a DUI.
But Rubin, the guy with the most returning experience among the rest was 0-6 in 24 minutes with one assist. (speaking of assists, King O managed to get one).
Of the rest of the experienced and returning players, Jeremy Robinson was 2-8 but Kellen Thornton did OK with 5-8 (10 pts)..
So who's gonna be Dinma's backup?? I'm going out on a limb and say the job is going to be split between Lewis, Thornton, Carmichael, and JRob (with two bigs in the game a lot of the time)...and whoever is most consistent will get the bigger minutes.
Austin Hill will probably get good minutes, especially given their shortage at PG.
I didn't see the scrimmage, but I can only surmise that Jon Ekey is the most likely R-S candidate...
he played 14 minutes and was 0-2, 1 pt, and his aforestated forte of blocking shots was not seen as he had 2 reb, no assists, and no blocks.
Overall, their minutes in the open/closed/public scrimmage went like this...
(per the box score)
Upshaw 28
A. Hill 25
Rubin 24
Lewis 24
Thornton 22
Phillips 21
Odiakosa 20
Eldridge 19
Terry Johnson 16
Ekey 14
Carmichael 13
Coates 11
Robinson 10+
Mishler 8
Trey Blue 27 minutes & 1 pt. (so why does a guy who isn't even going to play get so many scrimmage minutes?)
