Jaquan Johnson

Well-known member
currently, after 24 games, Jaquan Johnson has 69 steals.
If he never played another game in 2025-26, his 69 steals would rank 11th all time among Bradley's best season totals.
Bradley will play a minimum of 8 more games, and hopefully 10-12...
If he just gets another 10 steals, his total would be 4th all time, and if he gets 17 more, he'd tie for best season total ever.
Here are Bradley's all time season steals totals:

86 Dyricus Simms-Edwards 2012-13
83 Willie Scott 1982-83
82 Hersey Hawkins 1987-88
79 Rob Dye 1998-99
78 Willie Scott 1981-82
78 Walt Lemon, Jr. 2013-14
75 Walt Lemon, Jr. 2012-13
72 Billy Wright 1993-94
71 Eric Roberson 1997-98
70 Eric Roberson 1999-00
69 Jaquan Johnson 2025-26

also...Alex Huibregtse has 67 made 3-pointers with at least 8 or 9 games left to play.

with 12 more he will break in to the Top 10 all time among Bradley season 3-point totals. (Darrell Brown at 79)

If he can average 2 made 3-pointers per game (he's currently averaging 2.8), he could finish the season 2nd all time (currently held by
Aaron Zobrist (1996-97) at 90). But he'd need to average in the range of 5 made 3's per game to catch
Bradley's #1 all time season record holder for made 3-pointers, Jeremy Crouch - 118 in 2007-08.

Speaking of three pointers, with his performance the last couple games, Alex has retaken the official lead in 3 point percentage in the MVC-

Here is the NCAA ranking, and Alex is 29th in the nation as well as 1st in the MVC-

Note that the NCAA official minimum is 2.5 made threes per game to qualify for that official stat.
I have always thought that was too high of a requirement for players to qualify. And as can be seen, only 2 players in the entire MVC meet that minimum requirement, Huibregtse and Lundblade

Apparently, the MVC agrees that 2.5 made threes per game is a bit too high for the minimum.
The MVC stats page shows the leaders based on only 1.5 made threes per game. By that criteria, Alex ranks 3rd and Lundblade drops to 9th.

And recall that Jeremy Crouch tied for the leading 3 point percentage in the country in 2006-2007 with 50%-

Tyler Les played four seasons at UC-Davis. In his career there he was a deadly 3-point shooter.
He also once hit nine three-pointers in a game, and his 3-point percentage (.468) in 2014-15 would have led the nation
but fell just short of the number required by NCAA (he made 2.1/game)

Also, Tyler's career 3-point percentage was 44.1% (209-474) which is substantially better that NCAA's offical
all time career leader (Fletcher Magee 43.5%) but again- Tyler's numbers fell just short of what's required to qualify.
If NCAA lowered their requirement to 1.5 per game or even 1.75 per game, they'd have to rewrite their record books for Tyler!
Sure would have been nice to have him at BU in 2010-2015.

At this point, have to give consideration for the Larry Bird award to Bully.
His numbers are ridiculous, and should BU end up with a Top 3 seed, it's possible.

Leaders - MVC

Steals - 1st by FAR (2.7/gm)
Scoring - 2nd (16.8 ppg)
Assist-TO ratio - 3rd (behind Wheeler)
Assists - 4th (3.62/gm)
3-pt. shooting % - 7th (40.2%)
FT makes - 2nd (164)
FT % - 9th (79%)

He also avg. 4.1 boards a game, which ranks in the Top 5 among Valley guards, which isn't bad for a 5'9" PG!

Gotta be the best all-around player in the league and does a little bit of everything.
If he doesn't get the MVC POY, he should undoubtedly make:

Defensive POY
1st Team All MVC
Most Improved team

Love this guy!

One thing working in Jaquan's favor is that he's by far the #1 at Bradley and there's not much debate about it. In Belmont's case, I've been hearing more people talk up Scharnowski as Belmont's best player along with Lundblade - that could split some of the voting as well as if Murray State gets its act together, Javon Jackson and Fred King could split some of that vote.

I think if you're not in it every day, voters will also think that while Chase Walker has had a good season, he's underperformed (as well as his team's) expectations and that could cost him, too.

Bradley's schedule continues to be brutal the rest of the way and whether Jaquan can have big games like against Belmont will be a huge factor if he wins it. If somehow we finished solo second, he's probably going to have earned it by carrying us to that spot.

In the link below are the top scorers in the MVC. Jalen Quinn is the runaway leader now in MVC scoring, but with Drake having a mediocre season, I don't see him getting as many votes for Player of the Year. Quinn also leads the MVC in shots taken by a wide margin, which sometimes hurts Drake.
The Player of the Year is looking like it will come down to Belmont's Tyler Lundblade, Murray State's Javon Jackson, or Bradley's Jaquan Johnson. How those three teams finish over the next 2½ weeks will have some influence on how the voters rank them, but barring a collapse by Bradley, I like Jaquan's chances. Maybe voters will look at other numbers like rebounds, assists, turnovers, steals, and 3 point FG%, all of which favor Jaquan. And maybe voters will consider that Quinn, Jackson, and Lundblade are not standout defensive players as Jaquan is. But another factor... Lundblade and Jackson are seniors, and I think some voters tend to favor voting for a senior over a sophomore if it's a tossup choice.
MVC sortable stats-

Probably hurts JJ's chances if BU finishes anything but 1st or 2nd unless he goes on a tear and finishes with 18 ppg, remains the steals leader, and is among the Top 5 in assists, A-T ratio, and 3-pt. FG % (which he almost is at!).
I just don't see anyone else in the league with those robust #s and such a valuable teammate...but we don't get to vote unfortunately.
Lundblade is also a senior so maybe he gets the edge with voters.

As I've mentioned, I think it's only fair to give Quanny 3 awards (including defensive POY) if he doesn't get the Larry Bird trophy...and that's my prediction for how it will go down.

If you stack Jaquan's numbers vs Javon Jackson's, there is clearly one who's performed better on both ends.

Actually, if you stack Lundblade's numbers vs Alex's, they are very close, and it's debatable who's been more efficient.
They are both high volume shooters, but Lundblade takes more 3s per game, but Alex is significantly better % wise, which I didn't realize.

I think it's gonna come down to the 1st place team's best player (if not BU) vs Quanny unless Quan goes in a funk to close out the reg. season.

All this and he's played part of 1 season!

Jaquan now has 75 steals, tying him for 7th among Bradley's all time season steals leaders.
He is only 11 steals short of the #1 SEASON total in Bradley's history.
Jaquan's career total of 132 steals is 48 shy of being in Bradley's all time CAREER steals top 10, but
if he has a similar year next year at Bradley, he would get into the Top 5, and easily set the record by his senior
season, which is 259 held by Hersey Hawkins.

Alex Huibregtse now has 80 3-point FG's this season- tying him for #9 on Bradley's all time season totals rankings.
With a few games left, he has an excellent chance of reaching #3 or #2 on that list.
He also has a chance to set the BU career 3-point percentage, currently held by Aaron Zobrist at 42.2%
He currently sits at 42.8% and he does already have enough attempts to qualify for the record.

Ahmet Jonovic currently has 77 career blocks, only a dozen behind the #11 spot all time among Bradley players, but
at his current pace of 1.4 blocks per game, it is unlikely he'd reach that mark.

All these accolades make me nervous he will be leveling up to a Power 4 team with an unlimited NIL bag.

The only thing I think holding him back is his height, Power 4 teams like bigger guards 6 2+ Connor Enricht got exposed for his size against the Illini the other night.

Alex sits at 21st in the nation with 3-pt. % and Top 40 in makes.
I think we've been tough on him at times this season, but overall an outstanding pick up by the coaching staff to fill the need of a 3-pt. threat!

About time he got exposed...little twerp (LOL)

Yes, hes been really good, and we are going to miss him next year.

We really don't have a player like him amongst our current recruiting targets, and I think we are going to need one.....unless Zobrist can fill that role.

True this! I'm hoping we get a guy in the transfer portal who shoots 40% or better. Thought Burch would fill some of that need this season.
Right now Bully is the 2nd most reliable 3-pt. shooter - CT being 3rd, and he has actually been pretty good lately.

I really think Timo can improve on his outside shooting in the offseason and get up to around 37%. He has a knack for getting open and pretty shoots has open 3s and is hard to defend. And Timo does a whole lot more!

Hope you are right on Jaquon staying. Human nature is that if you show enough money to someone, they will at least think about it. Hope he is dedicated and finish his career and graduates from Bradley. We shall see.
