Keno Davis to Providence

He is getting out while he is a hot commodity , his package at Providence will set his family up for life . Who will be the next Ok. State coach as I believe Gillespie is pulling a Self to get a better deal from Kentucky.

He's currently in Iowa. Have any of you ever lived in Iowa for anything other than school? I have. I try not to remember. I dont blame him.

So a chance to move to a Big East school, go back to your childhood home, coach in the real BIG TIME with far, far more national TV coverage and recruiting prowess, and (last but not least) earn well over a million dollars a year, 3-4 times your present salary, that's a bad career move?
Keno is hot and you strike while the iron is hot...he could have a horrible year next season and he'd really regret saying no!

Agreed. Case in point: Mo should have left Bradley right after his NCAA team for better things when his iron was hot. He did not, and spent some years as an assistant and now he is at Western Illinois...

I definitely don't see this as a bad move for Keno - there's obviously the monetary benefits, but he also has a decent talent base to work with.

Providence returns most of their roster for next season, and they played better than their 15-16 record shows - they finished 74th in the Pomeroy rankings and had several nice wins (Arkansas, Temple, Florida State, UConn twice). Even just a small improvement could get them into the NIT next season, and I wouldn't totally rule out an NCAA bid if they can get some unexpected improvement from a returnee or two.

As far as the future, Keno will definitely need to recruit a solid class of 2009, as 5 rotation players will be seniors next season. He will, however, have two very good guards in Brian McKenzie and Dwain Williams for the next two seasons, so it's not like he's got nothing to build upon past next season.

It should be interesting to see how it plays out at Providence for Keno Davis.

Keno speaks on his new job...

"....some Bulldog fans who feel jilted. Davis says the same people that are angry that he is leaving are probably the same ones that got angry when he got the job, because of who he was (Tom Davis' son.) Davis says overall it is the best move for him and his family."

He's probably right. They're probably also the parents of the kids that just made him a millionaire, and probably thought it would have been nice for him to at least show up at their postseason banquet. ;)

Keno did show up at the team banquet. It was an event at the Iowa Statehouse honoring his team that he blew off.

Any resentment there DUB?

I don't know if you mean me, or Drake fans in general. I think there was a tremendous amount of resentment on Tuesday and Wednesday, but most fans have gotten past that and are eagerly awaiting the announcement of a new coach. I'm still hearing rumors that it could be as early as today.
