Latest Wessler Article

I actually just saw this as well.

He did touch on something that was questioned here recently.

"I don??™t know what athletics director Michael Cross will recommend to university President Joanne Glasser, or what her final decision will be. I??™ve talked to both, and neither will answer questions regarding Les??™ future."

Many wondered why DR did not touch on the AD or Prez's stance on Les in his recent article. Looks like they both no commented the questions.

This article pretty much sums up the views that have been on this board before.

Don't be surprised. It wasn't worth posting.

It does not contain a single new piece of information, and not even a single new unfounded rumor. Kirk seems desperate to get rid of Jim. If anyone thought Kirk doesn't have some personal axe to grind, it's hard to maintain that opinion after another oddly timed attack rant like that.

If people thought the last hit piece was timed poorly, what do they think of this game-day column?

Isn't there a basketball game today? Isn't there something else to write about? It's like a broken record, or mabye like a spoiled 2-year old who drops his pacifier.

Oh, and by the way, did you know:
-- Les never has had a team finish higher than fourth in the MVC.....

So I see there were no new unfounded rumors, apparently, but were there any untruths?

All I and many fans wondered is why he didn't seek a comment from those people before he started repeating unfounded rumors. But now we know that those rumors are not coming from any reliable source. So is Kirk backing off his "20 days" and Jim Les will be fired statement?

Again...this couldn't be written after the Valley tourney? Out of respect either way to the team ( players and staff alike) this could have come out a couples days later IMO...let the team concentrate on the task at hand......DRAKE game today! This could have waited!

When we talk about Kirk the clown he is legitimized more and more. Let's let this thread fall off the front page into the depths where it belongs.

Oops I just kicked it to the top :-o. Okay starting... NOW...

We got several requests to close this thread by fans who did not want to dignify Kirk Wessler's latest garbage column with responses.

But we'll reopen it.

But for those few Kirk Wessler apologists out there who still want to tell us how positive the coverage has been by KW and the PJ Star- here is another challenge-

Show us another columnist anywhere in America, at any time past or present who has ever written such a negative, "fire the coach" rant on the day of a really big, important game, perhaps the biggest game of the year for the team.
Looks like Kirk is setting the standard for self-righteous, bloated-ego writers who think anyone cares anymore what a newspaper writer thinks.

I agree with the content of the article but am really disappointed in the timing. Jim and the team don't deserve this type of treatment regardless of how the situation plays out.

DC, good of you to reappear to add some dignity to the discussion. Admire your passion, even if I think you're misguided.

Thanks. I am just trying to copy my hero Kirk. I thought I'd express some of my own bloated-ego, self-righteous thoughts.

In reality, is there any surprise that newspapers are dying faster than bugs drawn to a bug-zapper? And that fewer and fewer people read or care what they say? We are all intelligent enough to think for ourselves, and we don't need some pseudo-elite telling us how we should think. Just give us the news, not you biased, opinions.

BTW, I just cancelled my subscription, as most of the people I know have already done. Good luck with the early retirements PJ Star.

I very much agree! I don't question the content as much as the timing of 2 articles before the MVC tournament. But from past personal experience, I can tell you that once the PJS has an "agenda", right or wrong, they will run their "agenda" into the ground with articles.

Any truths? Did you miss the sections where he lists statistics? He even made a mention of how injuries can affect it as you always talk of and I agree can have an affect. Yes its clear he wants him gone, but he does have some factual evidence. I know you will talk of all the money he brings to the school, but its not like this was a column full of lies and rumors.....

First off, very well organized and truthfully written column. Good work by Wessler.

Secondly, The paper is not a propoganda arm of Bradley University. The respondsiblity for Wessler is to write on topics that are relavant when he writes them. Interest is highest in Bradley basketball during the season and I would not be surprised it is at its most highest at the time of the MVC tournament. Waiting to write about a relavant subject a week after the season ends makes no sense.

It also makes no sense to hold off on an article to let anyone prepare for anything. Les is a big boy and he gets paid big boy money to deal with "distractions" along with getting his team prepared to play basketball. It is not Wessler or Reynolds or the papers job to go soft on Les just because they are getting ready for a game. That is absolutely irrelavant.

He is the face of this program and it is part of his job to answer questions, yes even the hard ones and often at times not timely for his or the teams liking. He does not have to answer anything or he can answer its his call but if there is something that the writers feels needs to be address it is not important what Les is trying to do.

What he has 2 people that write anything about his program on a regular basis and maybe 3 TV people who cover his program and those 3 will not ask anything hard. To me Jim Les actually has it very easy when it comes to having to answer anything difficult or distracting. Do you seriously think a good reporter gives a rats ***s if what they are asking is a distraction?

The only good time for an article is when that information is relavant and important at that moment. Sorry but the timeing of this article is perfect.

Another JL stalker column by KW "reminds" us that either JL will gone from Bradley or KW will be gone from the PJS after the MVC tournament concludes. ;-)

I agree on all points, statistics never lie.

Completely disagree houston. This article and several confirm that kirk has an axe to grind for whatever reason. That's his prerogative I guess, but can't exactly say I agree with the papers editorial choices here. I have already decided based on or late season turn around that another season for Les is in the best interests of the program, if I felt the other way, as a supporter of the team I still wouldn't agree with this because it's inappropriately timed. There's a big game for the braves today and I'll continue supporting the team until the season is done, and I believe any supporter should do the same. Just my opinion.

I didn't have a problem with the article either, Dave wrote about the game and Kirk gave his opinion about the direction of the program.

I've been hearing more things from people much, much closer to the program than me that seem to slide in one direction but I still can see both sides...

I must admit that I defended Wessler's timing of his first two articles; I had no problem with that, only the content (which was lacking tremendously).

This article has the content that the first two lacked (the no comment by Glasser and Cross as well as statistics); this should have been his first article written instead of the third. But this also now proves to me that Wessler was full of cr@p in his first two articles where he said with certainty that Les was done; this article is a direct contradiction to that.

I also am convinced that this is Wessler's "swan song". He knows he's done at the PJS (retirement or buyout) and doing everything in his power to pile on and put pressure on the BU Administration to fire Les. This should not have been written today! It is highly inappropriate, IMO. This is game day and the PJS should be focusing on what is relevant. If we lose tonight then this article would have been appropriate for tomorrow, but not today.

I hope someone at the PJS or in a letter to the editor calls Wessler on the carpet on his definitive "20 days" statement and assumptions regarding Les. I think Les will be retained and this brand of "red journalism" needs to be exposed for what it is.
