Legendary Bradley basketball coach Joe Stowell passes away

They need to name floor at Ren-Col after him - he coached both men's & women's BKB and
nobody touched more lives and influenced more Bradley fans than Joe.

Joe coached 344 men's games (197-147) and 27 NCAA DI women's games (13-14) - but Joe was 33-22 overall with the women counting the games before they were ushered into DI

Definitely. That probably should have happened while he was still alive to see it.

Sad yet happy he was able to live for the most part a long and happy life. I always enjoyed talking with him about basketball and his perspective about the Bradley teams of the past and present. He definitely was Bradleys greatest ambassador. May he RIP.

Very sorry to hear this. Coach Stowell celebrated his 99th birthday less than two months ago. I believe he was the last living member of the 1949-50 NIT/NCAA 2nd place team as well as possibly the last player still living who was coached by the legendary AJ Robertson (if I'm not mistaken).

I graduated from PHS in 1972 with Joe, Jr., who sadly passed away several years ago from cancer.

Did not know him and his involvement with BU basketball like many of you.
I heard him on the radio for games a dozen times or so with Dave Snell. Didn't know much of anything about him then.
Learned of his impact on Bradley in the past 10 yrs through you all.
Sad day but happy memories for all who follow BU hoops.

And on this day that we celebrate & commemorate Joe Stowell's life and mourn his passing, congrats to Coach Wardle for becoming Bradley's all time leader in MVC victories, passing Coach Mo.

Loved listening to Coach on the radio starting in '85.... I was 9 years old and heard his whole career on there. RIP Coach.

Someone needs to put out a collection of his quotes. I use 2 of them all the time at work and home:

1. You are never as good or as bad as you think you are.

2. If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re probably right.

also - many might recall - and this story never got the copverage it should have because the PJStar crew were so far up Joanne Glasser's a** that they couldn't report objectively...

But, Joe was bold enough to call out the horrible job Joanne & Cross were doing running the program,
and he was not only canned from his radio broadcasting gig by Joanne, but she even kicked him off
the Hall of Fame Committee and BANNED him from setting foot on campus!

(reminder- home attendance averaged 9,245 over the final five seasons for Jim Les, then plummetted to 5726
four years later at the end of the Glasser/Ford era)

I never could understand why the trustees let her do the things she did because she wasted a ton of money.

she presented false financial data to the Board about the revenue losses in the Athletics Dept,
and only because some of the fans had access to the actual financial records- did it come to light

What is going on at the Peoria Journal Star? Thus far, they seem to be afraid to do any kind of incisive, accurate reporting of the situation at Bradley. WHY?? ....
- A severe financial problem over the past few years that has grown to major proportions as reported by the BU Resources Committee in April, 2014.
- Reported Annual losses in the Athletic Department of over $6 million and in the past few days, a report that this loss amount was actually over $7 million per year, but was covered up.

Your either early or your late.
