Missouri Valley Conference is proposing to change the Arch Madness format

I think the main people I can see liking this are Murray and Belmont. They are used to being 1 or 2 in the league and figuring they have a 50% or bette3r chance of getting in the NCAA. Well-if they wanted that they should have stayed in that poor excuse of a conference the OVC. The Valley is different-the difference is not that great (normally) between 1 &2 and the middle of the Valley. They great moaning will come if they do this and then don’t get more than one team in the NCAA. The fanbase that will explode is the first time there is a tie for second place and somebody loses the tiebreaker and has to win two games to get the right to play the team they tied with in the regular season.

Assuming we are successful at getting a 1 or 2 seed, I’m fine with the new format knowing I won’t have to spend $350 a night on a hotel.

If anyone finds a way to view the press conference please post it here as I will if I find it first (unlikely)
The MVC web page does not mention today's press conference, so I don't know if it will be streamed online. But if it is, it would likely be streamed on the MVC YouTube channel where they have streamed press conferences in the past.

Main YouTube page for the MVC- https://www.youtube.com/@missourivalleyconference
Live streaming page- https://www.youtube.com/@missourivalleyconference/streams
Previous Videos- https://www.youtube.com/@missourivalleyconference/videos

And the MVC web page should post a summary of the announcement here- https://mvc-sports.com/sports/mbball

The womens tourney in St Louis is good. I have no issue with that, but in making that change it seems like they fouled up the much more attended and rich history of the Men’s tournament. My main issue is it gives much too great an advantage to the #1 &2 seeds. This is not a conference that normally has a tremendous difference between #2 & 3. I won’t be surprised if in the near future #2 & 3 tie in the regular season and #3 loses the tiebreaker. I get that may result in some sort of slight advantage but heaven forbid #3 shouldn’t have to win 2 games in 2 days to get the right to play the team they tied with on day 3 of the tournament. I fear ticket sales will fall-will 1&2 wait until Saturday to show up in St Louis ?

Annnnnnddd…Friday attendance just tanked. This is a really dumb move. Do they offer refunds for fans whose team doesn’t make it? If you are in the bottom 3 standings wise by early Feb, I’m probably not buying any Arch Madness tickets until I know for sure my team is there. And you are asking more fans to take off work on Thursday to attend. All to add the women’s tournament into the mix. Colossal misstep by Jeff Jackson and the BOD.

Agree too much advantage to the 1&2 seeds, and the potential sag in attendance if those two teams have traditionally-large fanbase turnouts. Aside from that, eh..... let's give it a whirl. This will afford me more relaxation time in between games I care about.

Here it is-
Question. The Mens and Womens games will be played on the same day. Will they be played at the same time? If so wont that take away attendance from either one. Before fans used to go to both but if they are played at the same time you will be taking away attendance from one or the other

Father Harry indicates that the Valley lost a lot of money on the womens tournament. I can see that being a reason to make changes to that tournament. I looked on ESPN and according to them the entire tournament attendance was 5176 spread over 5 sessions. So about 1000 people per session and if my understanding is correct they normally quote tickets sold not butts in seats which will always be less. 1000 people in Enterprise center will look pretty poor. The Arch Madness attendance was 40,119 from the same source. So, addressing the 5000 person issue by messing with the 40,000 person event does make me wonder if it will turn out well.
