More players named by FBI as having received payoffs including Wichita State and Creighton players

Does anyone seriously think the NCAA will do anything?

The NCAA knows if they do anything, the schools in Big 5 Conferences will bolt and form their own league. All the freeloading poobahs in the NCAA will lose their posh lifestyles and freebies.

Hopefully the IRS will get involved as I'm sure NO Taxes were paid on this income or benefits.

Good question. Yes, we know when it's up to the NCAA, they always go easy on or ignore violations by the big schools. But in this case it is the FBI, and they are pressing some serious federal charges against those indicted, and I expect more people to be indicted as the lower-level guys start to cooperate. I would hope the FBI or the IRS won't be so generous to the big boys.

In the FBI trial involving Christian Dawkins, the father of the primary player, Brian Bowen is on the witness stand (he is also named Brian Bowen, Sr.). His son was originally a 2017 recruit out of high school in Saginaw, Michigan, but then became a 2018 recruit by going to La Lumiere Prep School. The father just testified he started getting paid by Adidas as early as 2015, while his son was a sophomore at Saginaw Arthur Hill HS.-

The juicy tidbits and a lot of new names keep coming out of this FBI trial. Brian Bowen's father just testified that:
>>Christian Dawkins told him the Arizona, via assistant coach Joe Pasternack (now head coach at UC Santa Barbara), was offering $50,000.
>>He also testified that Oklahoma State would pay $150,000, $8,000 for a car and "some undisclosed amount to buy a house" via asst coach Lamont Evans.
Also-
>>Texas would "help me with housing" via asst coach Mike Morrell (now the head coach at UNC-Asheville)
>>Creighton would pay "like $100,000 and a good job, like a lucrative job" via asst coach Preston Murphy
>>Bowen Sr. said he was paid $25,000 for his son to play AAU ball one summer with the Michigan Mustangs. Money came from Dawkins and Adidas' Chris Rivers
>>Bowen Sr. testified he was paid $5,000-$8,000 to play AAU ball with the Nike backed Mean Streets out of Chicago
>>Bowen Sr. said he was paid $2,000 a month to have his son attend La Lumiere by then coach Shane Heirman (now an assistant coach at DePaul)
>>Bowen Sr. said Dawkins told him an original offer of $60,000 to $80,000 from Adidas to attend Louisville was increased to $100,000 because that is how much Billy Preston got to go to Kansas

As far as I recall, the names of former Arizona Associate Head Coach Joe Pasternack, Texas assistant Mike Morrell, Creighton assistant Preston Murphy, and DePaul assistant Shane Heirman had not previously come out publicly.

Heirman was hired in May, 2017 for the main purpose of trying to land his player (Brian Bowen) of La Lumiere at DePaul (which never materialized).

I expect more corruption to be uncovered, and more schools and coaches proven to be cheaters.
Joe Pasternack took over a 6-22 team at UC Santa Barbara in 2017, and turned things around immediately into a 23-9 record in 2017-18. Now we know he is a cheater.

And as with the revelation yesterday that Landry Shamet was getting paid while in college at Wichita State and confirming what has been long known that Gregg Marshall is a long-time chreater, now we have even more proof that Creighton's Greg McDermott is maybe an ever bigger cheater.

The question is, will the NCAA do anything about all this corruption and cheating? Undoubtedly the NCAA has known this was all going on for a long time, and they have intentionally ignored and buried it.
In fact, now that the FBI is uncovering all the corruption that should have been the job of the NCAA, the NCAA President is being criticized for not even attending the trial!
Mark Emmert's absence from hoops trial shows how much he cares about corruption in the sport

Can you provide proof for this claim? The only "revelation", based on your own post from yesterday, was that Dawkins was "actively involved with" Shamet. That is not the same as what you just alleged. In fact, unless you can provide a link that states he was paid by Dawkins, especially while at WSU, it's not even an allegation. It's a fabrication. A lie.

I have long though that sleazy stuff was going on at La Lumiere - but of course NCAA would have no cause nor jurisdiction....
the worst that could happen is that DePaul would have to cut ties with him

You are in denial!!!! If he did not know about the payments to his players then he has no control over his program. A coach must know what is going on with his players

it took decades for even these well documented payoffs to finally be made known - and NOT because of the NCAA's actions - but because finally the FBI stepped in...

As we have seen all along - this is just the tip of the iceberg...the sleaze has been well hidden for years but now the lid is being peeled off...
...
if two Wichita players have already been exposed, then gotta wonder how many and how long has it been going on? Does it even go as far back as Turgeon?

This time it's high level testimony under oath in a big time federal trial ...the guy is NOT going to lie on that witness stand...
so if the witnesses are describing cash to Shamet & FVV, then it's probably a little bit more than rumor.
And this is just one shoe company and a couple of agents.....multiply that out by several shoe companies and dozens of those freewheeling agents and i think there's likely hundreds of players involved and nearly every power-conference school, plus a few who used the technique to get to that level like Wichita. Tip of the iceberg.

another blockbuster piece of info from the testimony in the FBI case ...

"Bowen testified that the offer involving Creighton included $100000 and two "high paying jobs" for he and his longtime girlfriend.
Defense asked if both were over $100000 per year and Bowen said could recall exactly."

so the Creighton job would have paid possibly $100,000 up front plus TWO sham jobs that paid maybe $100,000 each PER YEAR!!!

Also - testimony that TWO separate DePaul assistants gave cash to Bowen- https://twitter.com/GatorBuckman/status/1049735790312521728

also Brad Underwood's staff at Oklahoma State made offers in excess of $200,000

NCAA ARE YOU HEARING THIS!!!!!!!You have all the ammunition you need. Sworn testimony!!!

Depaul is one school that has certainly NOT been getting their money's worth. Someone at Depaul needs to hire a better "bag man" because they're obviously not getting the bang for their buck.

In addition to funnelling dirty money to the talent brokers, DePaul hired the head coach at La Lumiere Prep hoping to land Brian Bowen, the guy Louisville paid $100,000 for and other schools paid big buck for, too. And they thought it would help them land other La Lumiere kids, too.
But the only La Lumiere kid they have landed since they hired the coach is this wacky, walk-on, glorified cheerleader who never sees the court-

well, they thought they were gonna get Tyger Campbell but then Campbell must have gotten a better offer - because he decommitted and went to UCLA

Creighton is lawyering up big time..
the name of the Creighton assistant alleged to have made the $100,000+ payment offer is Preston Murphy who has been at Creighton under Greg McDermott since 2015. And the strange La Lumiere-connection seems to pop up again...
https://www.omaha.com/creighton/men...cle_4ea9000d-7fdf-5314-996e-b87c65827d9d.html

Creighton's President says they have done nothing wrong, they are not apparently doing any investigation on their own, and have done nothing regarding the employment of assistant coach Preston Murphy in the meantime.

What's also interesting is that the other top Creighton assistant is Alan Huss, who, like Shane Heirman (see above) came to Creighton after serving as head coach at La Lumiere. In fact, Heirman was Huss' assistant who took over at La Lumiere when Huss left.

Also on staff there at Creighton is former Missouri State head coach Paul Lusk.

we now have really strong, sworn courtroom testimony that talented players and/or from both Wichita State & Creighton were offered or DID receive illegal payments ...
Of course, NCAA is just sitting on the sidelines hoping all this goes away and stalling so those programs can continue recruiting blue chippers and packing their coffers with cash from their sellouts...

[/B]

The Creighton President and Board sold their soul when they joined the Big East for the sole purpose of being able to elevate and enhance their brand with prospective wealthy Catholic students from the northeast. They're so far down the shady train tracks that there's no turning back now...

likewise Wichita State - when all their assistants jumped ship last spring - Gregg Marshall hired a guy who had a history of NCAA violations
But then, that is not a new thing for Gregg Marshall -

he has hired Steve Forbes who was part of the Bruce Pearl scandal at Tennessee

He has hired Chris Jans who was run out of basketball for sexually assaulting a woman

And he hired Donnie Jones who got one of the "stiffest penalties" the NCAA could hand out for a scandal

More blockbuster testimony today in the college basketball corruption trial...

one of the corrupt agents who was paying players has directly implicated Kansas head coach Bill Self in funneling CASH PAYMENTS to DeAndre Ayton...who ended up going to Arizona instead...

Adidas consultant TJ Gassnola who admits to paying cash payments to high schoolers in order to funnel them to specific colleges...
"Gassnola testified ... he paid $15,000 to a family friend of Deandre Ayton that was to be given to Ayton's mother. This was when Ayton was a junior in high school. The money was given to Ayton's family in an attempt to "establish a relationship" and get Ayton on board with Adidas, Gassnola said."
"Gassnola testified to attempting to get Ayton's mother permanent housing and a job in Kansas in an effort to recruit Ayton to KU. Gassnola also said he felt he let Kansas coach Bill Self down in his outside recruiting efforts after Ayton committed to Arizona."

H
e goes on to detail two different players (Silvio DeSouza and Billy Preston) that he funneled money to in order to get them to Kansas.
He even convinced Peston's mother to claim she was in an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP with Gassnola
"which would make the $90,000 payments "OK." - same as if a family member was giving him money!!

In addition to Bill Self - other names brought up who were alleged to be in on illegal payment schemes...
Bill Self, Maryland's Mark Turgeon, NC State asst Orlando Earley, Kansas asst Kurtis Townsend, Miami assistants, and then another middle-man/agent Martin Fox who was paying adidas money to the corrupt agents...
https://www.cbssports.com/college-b...to-ex-nc-state-assistant-detailed-by-witness/

BTW- here is BILL SELF's denial....
it sounds incredibly dishonest and actually doesn't even seem to deny he was CHEATING!!!
"Self told reporters Wednesday. "But I can say this, in the past I've made a
statement that we certainly believe, based on the information we have, that
this thing would have a positive resolution. But that was also based on the
information that we had.

"So, you know, who knows what could potentially happen in the next, you
know, whatever period of time? But I'm taking the approach, as everybody is
on our team, that we're going to have Silvio De Sousa playing for us this year.""

Good question. This is corruption at its worst level. I like to think they have to. They are always complaining they no subpoena powers to gather evidence putting them at a disadvantage. Here they are getting sworn testimony in a court of law. However I think the NCAA has been taken over by the bigger Corrupt Powers so they may want to ignore it. If they do I think they will show there true colors and lose creditability. Time will tell.
