NIT games

everyone else in the Valley peaked midseason and then tailed off at the end
but kudos to ISU who are peaking now...

We could play a team of players with no arms and they’d still make about 10 3’s against us.. I swear nobody ever goes cold against us like Dayton is tonight against ISU

ISU wins although they limped to the finish. Dayton was hurt by Bennett being out for almost the entire game-he had 25 against us.

ISU did almost everything possible to lose this game but they held on and have advanced to their 1st ever NIT semifinals with a 61-55win at Dayton. The Flyers lost their best player Javon Bennett early and just never recovered. ISU opened the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed. Dayton was just 3-25 from 3, 19-63 overall while the Redbirds were 22-40 overall, 6-16 from 3. ISU [plays the winner between Nevada and Auburn. Congrats.

Illinois State Makes NIT final 4 at Historic Hinkle Fieldhouse! I just saw Butler play Creighton there a few weeks back. I love the Venue and wish Bradley could have made it! At least the Valley is represented in this tournament! I hope they can give Auburn a good game!!!!

Last night was very strange. I found myself rooting for ISU. I can normally see myself rooting for 9 other valley teams, but now ISU ??? Oh well Ill get over it.

SIU went 0-15 from deep vs BU this past season. Drake went cold for about a whole half of basketball when we played them in Des Moines when Alex got the hot hand. There were likely a handful of games, but those 2 came to mind right away.

I normally root for ISU-red (or any Valley team) after Arch Madness, but it leaves a sour taste when your rivals get to play in the Final 4 in the NIT just a year after your team should have been there.
Last night - I didn't care, but kinda wanted Dayton to win for the reason above.

Quite an accomplishment for ISU to have won their post-season tourney last season, their non-conf. tourney this season in Nov., and to be making a run to the NIT championship now!

Well those 2 teams are hardly the same thing as at Dayton in the NIT with a trip to the quarterfinals on the line but I hear ya....

However, it's usually more likely a team shoots better from 3 against us than their avg, and some guy undoubtedly goes for a career or season high against us...or so it seems...

Either way ISU caught Dayton at their worst, and without their best player for 32 minutes of the game.......kudos to them for making it to the final 4 of the NIT

ISUr is the only non #1 seed to advance to NIT semis. It will be interesting to see how many Redbird fans make the 3 hour trip to Indy. The other teams aren't close. The Lobos have a pretty passionate fan base so I expect they will have a decent crowd travel to Indy.

The two NIT semifinal games are tonight (Thursday, April 2) at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and on ESPN.

In the fist semifinal- Tulsa beat favored New Mexico 74-69

The 2nd semifinal starts shortly-
Illinois State vs Auburn- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/game/_/gameId/401858362/illinois-st-auburn
Auburn is an 8½ point favorite

ISU having a hard time guarding Auburn and keep turning the ball over, 15 of them in the first 27:00. When you can't guard and score you're getting blown out and the Redbirds are losing to Auburn 64-41.

Auburn wins 88=66. ISU ended up with 18 turnovers and other than Chase Walker their 4 other starters combined to go 7-24.

Seems a lot of ISU fans are still disappointed with the team this season, but the NIT run made it bearable.
I think it's a great accomplishment for an overrated team with possibly only 1 stud (Walker) and a bunch of other decent, but not great players.
