Non-Con schedule "officially" posted

I don't think I'll be too worried about the Florida Gulf Coast game at thier arena. The two guys that had great games against Bradley last year, Landon Adler & Adam Liddell, aren't on the roster this year.

Ft. Myers does sound like a better place than Peoria to spend Thanksgiving.

If you were a Florida or Syracuse fan, would book a flight, hotel and game ticket to Kansas City if there was a chance the team might not play there?

So when we beat either Florida or Syracuse what are they going to say when the head on over to KC....and you know I will be pulling for the team we beat to win in KC :p

Funny format that is produced due to NCAA rules and loop holes that will not be changed because they favor the biggies.

What I interpret this tournament as is a little different.

- Four TIER 1 teams

- Four TIER 2 teams

- Eight TIER 3 teams

BU is a TIER 2 team. Each TIER 2 team plays a TIER 1 team as a showcase game.

After that, TIER 1 teams compete in a 4 team bracket.

TIER 2 and TIER 3 teams each play ONE TIER 2 team, and TWO TIER 3 teams.

It doesn't seem likely that there is a championship for TIER 2 or TIER 3 teams.

Ex.
BU plays Richmond (TIER 2), UMKC (TIER 3), FGCU (TIER 3)
UMKC plays BU (TIER 2), FGCU (TIER 3) TEAM X (TIER 3)
Richmond plays BU (TIER 2), TEAM X (TIER 3), TEAM Y (TIER 3)
FGCU plays BU (TIER 2), UMKC (TIER 3), TEAM Y (TIER 3)
TEAM X plays Richmond (TIER 2), UMKC (TIER 3), TEAM Y (TIER 3)
TEAM Y plays Richmond (TIER 2), FGCU (TIER 3), TEAM X (TIER 3)

and that would be half of the 12 team bracket, with the other half being filled by teams that haven't been announced yet, but there would be 4 other TIER 3 teams, and 2 other TIER 2 teams.

Basically I think that theres 4 main teams, 12 other teams. The best of the other teams (BU, Richmond + 2 others) get a showcase game against a top 4 team, and then win or lose, they play against 2 lower quality teams, and 1 equal quality team.

Just a theory though, I know its kind of confusing, but hopefully it makes sense ;)

Agreed, two big games, one OK game with Butler and thats it. If we have more than 3-4 losses I'm gonna be very upset.

I usually wait until I see the r/w scrimmage, but I think we will be in the 3-4 loss area. I hope that I am wrong about this.

Not the best sked, but the things I like about it:

-Teams get rewarded for winning games away from home. There are 6 games away from home not including the BB.

-Anything less than 9-2 would be a real disappointment. This is a schedule full (with the obvious exceptions) of teams we can and should beat anywhere, anytime.

-Catching Syracuse or Florida so early in the season we have a real good opportunity to surprise them. This is not a typical game 1, 2, or 3 for those schools.

Interesting assessment..imo There are way too many question marks on this team to state that anything less than a 9-2 record is a disappointment.

FGCU in Ft Myers= possible trap game..

I would like a shot at the 'Cuse... I have never been a Boeheim fan.

Our style of play would be best if we played the 'Cuse and their zone D. 3s would be falling all night!

SM to AW on the top of the key and he hits another 3!

Sure there are "trap" games. . .Richmond, @ Milwaukee, @ FGCU. . .

But outside of MSU, Syracuse or Florida, there isn't a team on there we should lose to.

Yea, too many question marks to state anything less than 9-2 is a real disappointment. With all these question marks, knowing how Bradley can struggle on the road against ANYBODY, and then how Butler could come in and beat... plus our friends down at ETSU expect a win in Peoria. Heck, I see all these games as possible losses:

@ Florida/Syracuse
vs Richmond
@ Fl-GC
ETSU
@ Mich St
Butler
@ Milwaukee
@ Bracketbuster

Agree....

I agree too! So please don't get my intentions wrong. ;) And quite frankly, I'm disappointed whenever we lose ANY game... I think EVERY game is a BIG game. I think we could surprise MSU and/or Florida/Syracuse. I hope we win 'em all.

NO RED AND WHITE THIS YEAR
Due to the demolition of Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse and the on-going construction of its replacement arena, both of the men??™s basketball exhibition games will be played at Carver Arena, Nov. 3 (7:05 p.m.) versus Lewis and Nov. 9 (4:05 p.m.) against Wisconsin-Platteville. With the annual Red-White Scrimmage put on hold due to the campus construction project, the Nov. 3 game versus Lewis will serve as the on-court public debut for the 2008-09 Braves. In lieu of the scrimmage, however, the Bradley Department of Athletics is planning a public event to introduce the 2008-09 men??™s basketball team prior to the exhibition opener and details will be announced at a later date.

I am not very happy with this schedule whatsoever. I will we could get a bi name team at home this year. I figured that would probably not happen so I was at least hoping for another 2 & 1 schedule starting out this year like we have vs Mich st.

It might be tough to get the fans to Carver before Carver besides the home opener and perhaps Butler.

How is Butler supposed to be this year??

"In lieu of the scrimmage, however, the Bradley Department of Athletics is planning a public event to introduce the 2008-09 men??™s basketball team prior to the exhibition opener and details will be announced at a later date."

How about Saturday October 18th at Shea Stadium when the Men's Soccer hosts Creighton?!?!

That happens to be my birthday AND my best friend's bachelor party/campout.....so that doesn't work for me! It cannot happen on that date!

Cool! - Happy Birthday and best wishes to your best friend's wedding in advance.

That date is a great opportunity IMO for BU to "market" the basketball team during a big Bradley event. But don't come after me.... I have NO influence on Bradley. ;)

Part of the problem is we really need our schedule to become more national, IMO.

Outside of the tournament, no team on there comes from outside a 2 or 3 state radius.

I understand it's nice to get the Chicago game on there (and knowing this why JL requested Milwaukee for the BB--the return game), but it's not necessary. Part of building respect is recognition outside your immediate area, and our schedule has become increasingly localized, and in some years that's fine. . .but it can't be the status quo.

Here is Dave Reynolds' article in today's (8/16/08) PJ Star about the non-conference schedule--
Bradley fortifies schedule

Here is WMBD's article--
Sweet 16 teams highlight BU's schedule
http://centralillinoisproud.com/content/fulltext/?cid=17881

I haven't added my opinion on this schedule, yet, but here it is if anyone cares-
I think Bradley did a remarkable job putting together this schedule, considering the adversity they faced. With the late cancelling of the TOTWC, and Iowa State asking for a change in their contracted game, Bradley could have been in a position to end up with a terrible bunch of teams. But instead, they have 2 Sweet 16 teams from last year on their non-conference schedule (Butler and Michigan State- something I can't find they have had for a long time), and they will have multiple games against teams that have won the national championship in recent memory (Florida or Syracuse, and Michigan State). The CBE is a good tournament to land in, considering just a couple weeks ago, they were left out in the cold by the folks in Alaska. The only thing I am disappointed about, is that there is no Red-White game, and we have to wait until Nov. 3rd to see the team. That will be tough!

Dave also reports one more tidbit at the bottom--
"Les said the final member of this season's team, freshman forward Taylor Brown of Dunwoody, Ga., will arrive on campus today. Brown, who committed to the Braves last month, will be seeing Bradley for the first time."

Welcome Taylor! But are we sure he is the "final member of this season's team"?
