OT: He is coming...

The bit of math I've done trying to understand it indicates that the Bulls really don't have enough space for two max contracts and the rest of a team. One outcome I think I'd like would be for LeBron and David Lee (who I don't think will get a max contract). Lee could give you an offensive threat and another guy with a penchant for rebounding to play next to Noah. With no other changes your lineup could be Rose, LeBron, Deng, Lee, Noah.

-- of course, I'd really like to see Rose, LeBron, Bosh, random shooting guard, and Noah on the floor. To do that you have to get creative capwise, and also answer the question of if Bosh wants to share THAT much (I personally think he does). You really have to move Deng at that point (maybe for a washed up SG that's also overpaid) for the future's sake.

It's really going to be interesting... And I believe any result in which LBJ comes to Chicago (which provided he's leaving Cleveland, I think Chicago is the most logical destination) turns Chicago into a championship favorite, regardless of other moves.

Two max players would require the trade of either Deng or Hinrich.

The Bulls have about $31 million tied up for 2010-2011. Source

The cap is expected to drop to "between $50.4 million and $53.6 million for the 2010-11 season" according to a league memo reported on by ESPN.

So the Bulls will have about $20 million in cap space. A max contract for one of these guys is about $18 million per year, so to sign another top guy, they will need to work a sign-and-trade.

I really hope that the Nets don't get the first pick. I would hate for them to get John Wall and make a big push for Calipari and LeBron.

I don't read much into these denials. Given Calipari's situation in Kentucky, you would have to handle it delicately were he actually interested. The Bulls could be interested and need to say what they're saying...or it could all just be rumor.

Also, did anyone listen to The Score this afternoon? Apparently there was an "incident" between Delonte West and LeBron's mom that some say has caused a rift between LeBron and many of his teammates. The more stuff that comes out, the more it sounds like he's leaving.

Sounds like signing Lebron and a sign and trade for Bosh or Joe Johnson would be the most likely scenario from what I have been hearing...

Yes! The Nets drop down to #3 in the lottery! They are probably still serious contenders, but at least they won't have John Wall or Evan Turner to make them even more appealing.

Brook Lopez, Terrence Williams, Devin Harris, and Courtney Lee are the only players the Nets have locked up for next season. If they want to add LeBron and maybe one other free agent, they may not be able to re-sign any of their other players.
So a team of unproven rookie John Wall, Lebron James, Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, and Courtney Lee can win the NBA championship? I don't see that team being above .500.
The Nets got hot in the last 3 weeks of the season to finish the season 12-70, and barely avoid the worst record in the history of the NBA. Some people think they were the worst team ever. IMO, it will take more than LeBron and a lot of time to turn the worst team in the NBA into the best team.-

Here are a couple of the many articles you can find asking the question whether the Nets are the worst team in NBA history-

2010 New Jersey Nets Could Be Worst Basketball Team of All Time

Here is a rundown of the Free Agents available this summer, including those with restrictions, and those who have options on their current contracts that would have to be voided.-

Incidentally, the New York Knicks will have the most "cap room" to sign free agents, the only players they have under contract for next year are Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Toney Douglas and Eddy Curry. The rest of their team has expiring contracts. They will be desperate to sign LeBron or Dwyane Wade. If they don't, they could rival the Nets next year as a woefully bad team.

I love it when a plan comes together...

Bump post draft.

Jalen Rose tweeted the other day that the Cavs are no longer in the running for LBJ's services, though ESPN has people saying that's not the case. Jason Goff and others on The Score have been saying that the Cavs owner disenfranchised James with all his showmanship and how he tried to hire Izzo without consulting him at all. Very interesting.

With the trade of Hinrich, the Bulls are now at least even with Miami and New York in terms of being able to offer a 2nd free agent a max deal. The Bulls actually can't offer a full 2nd max deal, but it's probably close enough that they could figure something out if they had to. This will be a very interesting next week+.

On my way home from work last night (5pm) the Score said with the money saved from Hinrich and the money they will save from not having to pay the 1st round pick (dealt with Hinrich) they will be able to sign 2 max guys if the cap is where it is rumored/expected to me... what changed?

I heard that, too, but I think they might be wrong. The deals yesterday free up a little over $30 million in salary that the Bulls have available to spend on free agents this summer. The maximum contract is estimated to be around $16.5 million (the actual salary cap and max contracts haven't been set for 2010-2011 by the NBA yet). So the Bulls are still a little short of being able to offer 2 max contracts. I think they are hoping to land Joe Johnson at a little below the maximum, and then land 1 max guy such as LeBron, Bosh, or DWade.

This article reports that the Bulls do have enough to sign 2 max contracts, but I think it will take 1 more move to free up a couple more million to reach enough for 2 full max contracts.-

The 2nd article states their payroll next year will now be $22.8 mil. The projected cap is $56.1 mil so that leaves them with $33.3 mil in space and will allow two max guys at $16.5 mil... we will see if the projections stay true...
